Webbo Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 Jimmy Carr sticks it to tax avoiders; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXibReHW3UA&feature=player_embedded Jimmy Carr's tax affairs Jimmy Carr tax avoidance scheme investigated by HMRC A tax avoidance scheme used by comedian Jimmy Carr and more than a thousand wealthy Britons to pay as little as one per cent income tax is being investigated by HMRC. HMRC have confirmed the K2 scheme is under investigation and have vowed to "challenge it in every way available to them", saying "Government does not intend anyone, no matter who they are, to get away with paying less than they should." The tax scheme is understood to protect £168m a year from the taxman in Jersey, with Jimmy Carr as its largest beneficiary. According to a special investigation by the Times newspaper, thousands of high earners in Britain use such schemes to carefully do their accounting “under the radar”. It claims an accountant disclosed Mr Carr had sheltered £3.3m a year through the company. http://www.telegraph...ed-by-HMRC.html
21st Century Fox Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 Carr was confronted over his own financial arrangements during a show in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Challenged by a member of the audience who told him "You don't pay tax", he replied: "I pay what I have to and not a penny more", The Times reported. He really is a bellend.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 Doesn't everybody try to pay the minimum required? And the wealthy, being wealthy, are best equipped to do so, so they do. It's like the Queen, where ever she goes, people give her stuff. Why? Surely she can pay for it!? What is more annoying in Carr's case is the fact that he calls the banks for doing exactly what he does himself.
Babylon Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 What is more annoying in Carr's case is the fact that he calls the banks for doing exactly what he does himself. Or he just reads a script handed to him.
simmo1977 Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 I think Frankie Boyle summed up the Jimmy Carr thing perfectly, "It's ok as long as after everytime he tells a joke about how shit a town is he follows it with partly down to me" One poster on here maybe getting abuse shouted at them when walking down the street as they have more than a passing resemblance to Mr Carr.
Webbo Posted 20 June 2012 Author Posted 20 June 2012 Actually, some of his jokes on here are quite good.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 Or he just reads a script handed to him. It's still two-faced. That wasn't unrehearsed.
Rincewind Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 For the less wel off it's called tax dodging for the rich it's called something else The better off you are the more able you are to use loopholes which are just inside the law. Is there a lot of difference to moving money to an overseas account or buying a yacht to doing a favour for a friend and being paid cash in hand? The less well off are not so clever and do not have accountants so the Govt are able to catch more of them bring cries of 'cheats' 'scroungers' etc from readers of certain newspapers.
Petchy Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 We would all do the same if we were in the position to do so too.
Webbo Posted 20 June 2012 Author Posted 20 June 2012 I certainly would, but I don't slag off others who do the same.
21st Century Fox Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 We would all do the same if we were in the position to do so too. Speak for yourself.
Guest MattP Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 We would all do the same if we were in the position to do so too. I resent paying it whilst it's being squandered on scumbags and i thought the 50% rate was far too high but I'd never deliberately lower it to 1%, to do that is quite frankly appalling.
Daggers Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 It must be one of the reasons he has the most slapable smug twatface on television. I wouldn't mind if the cvnt was funny but he's as humorous as cancer.
Zingari Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 Jimmy Carr tax arrangements 'morally wrong', says David Cameron http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/jun/20/jimmy-carr-tax-david-cameron errr but is this the same David Cameron ? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/david-cameron/9218119/David-Camerons-inherited-family-wealth-based-in-foreign-tax-havens.html
Rincewind Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 Legally is not regarded as a synopsis of morally to some.

Jon the Hat Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 A bit different, inheritance tax arranged by his father but yes, if you are going to call others you need to make sure your own house is in order. On which basis the Guardian should shut the **** up.
Daggers Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 On which basis the Guardian should shut the **** up. More Tory censorship.
ADK Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 To be honest getting angry at individuals is pointless. If its legal then of course they will do it. Its the systems that need changing.
Vacamion Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 You would think that Mr Carr pays some dude to sort his finances out. You would also think that this dude suggested something along the lines of, "I have managed your affairs in a certain way, it's perfectly legit, that saves you £££s." You would probably assume that as he pays someone else to look after his finances, Mr Carr never really looked into this in detail. Whilst ignorance is no defence under the law (or even a moral defence) I think he is the tip of a very large iceberg of people doing stuff like this...
21st Century Fox Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 To be honest getting angry at individuals is pointless. If its legal then of course they will do it. Its the systems that need changing. The system does need drastically changing and loopholes need to be closed but just because it's legal doesn't justify doing it. Some people would look at it from a moral viewpoint.
Guest MattP Posted 20 June 2012 Posted 20 June 2012 On which basis the Guardian should shut the **** up. Leave the Guardian as it is, makes the left look ridiculous. Anyone who reads the plagiarisms of Johann Hari with any hint of seriousness deserves what they get. It's on it's last legs now anyway, circ barely over 200,000, less than the Daily Record.
