Utterly incredible. So proud of our Rowers, Cyclists and Athletics squad tonight, and of the immense British public who've made this day such a joy to watch.

It's just a shame that as soon as these games are over, the media will immediately shove these heroes to the side and place our chronically shit "footballers" back into the spotlight where they simply don't belong.

Spot on. To think many of these athletes rely on funding to be professional and do it for the love of their sport when there are shit footballers earning £40k a week regardless of how poorly they are playing. To think the average City player will earn more than any of our Gold medallists (except maybe Ennis) this year says it all. There is a purity and simplicity to athletics that rely appeals to me.

If our footballers were half as dedicated, half as mentally strong, half as determined as our Olympians they might stand a chance of not disintegrating at the first sign of pressure.

Precisely, the bottle, dedication, humility and passion shown by our athletes over the past week has actually made me question my own enthusiasm for football with its multi-millionaire talentless mercenaries, corrupt billionaire owners and officials, BSkyB and the Premier League's monopoly over the games future in this country, £40 match tickets, corporate domination in the stands, the rich getting richer whilst the small are strangled out of existence etc etc etc etc etc.

I agree.

I missed all the athletics golds today as I was watching us fail on penalties again, to South Korea for god's sake. Really wish I hadn't bothered. Greatest day in British Olympic history though woo hoo!

You Limeys did some serious work today. Nicely done.

Congratulations for leading the medal table thus far

Although are you not a little concerned that 30 of your 54 medals have come from the pool? Is it me or is the USA no longer the sporting superpower it once was? :)

China are the Olympic powerhouse now, so good over an enormous range of sports.

I'm not concerned. The Olympics are front-loaded with swimming events and it was great to see our swimmers dominate once again.

Not only did we win gold in the women's gymnastics team competition, but Gabby "The Flying Squirrel" Douglas took gold in the individual all-around, too (Ally Raisman narrowly missed winning bronze, and Jordyn Wieber, who didn't qualify for the individual finals, is the defending world all-around champion). We've got Serena, the Bryan brothers, and we've even won a gold medal in judo.

I expect us to bring home medals in what we call "track and field" over the next few days. Also, we look like the favorites to win gold in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's volleyball and women's soccer, and have a decent chance in men's and women's water polo.

China is right behind us in the medal count, but they pretty much just cleaned up on the diving boards and won some weightlifting events. We're still the top dogs all around. And what about those great Russians? They've only won 3 gold medals so far!

Our boxing team is poor this year, and I was disappointed to see our men's soccer team give up a stupid goal at the very end against Honduras to throw away qualification for London. Overall, though, I think we've done fine.

Somalian immigrant wins 10k. A mixed race woman wins heptathlon. All British. I think I speak for everyone when I say, FVCK YOU DAILY MAIL!

Simply put, that was a fantastic race from a fantastic runner.

One of the best moments of the Games so far came with about 75 m to go. I loved how Farah looked over his shoulder to see the Bikeles, and you can see from his reaction that he knows right then and there, "I'm going to win!" It was as if his feet never touched the ground afterwards--that's how thrilled he was. The roar of the crowd throughout that whole last lap was incredible.

I see all that training Farah does in Oregon has really paid off. ;) Also nice to see Galen Rupp sneak out the silver in that race.

Oh yeah, can't forget Mo and Greg. :worship:

But mainly Jess.

Seriously though, WHAT A NIGHT!!! So proud.

Amazing night.

Found myself dancing around my living room. Brilliant considering I didn't think I'd be bothered about the Olympics.

Going back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off, the thing I'm most annoyed about........no more Olympics during the day!

Was very happy to see Mo win last night, but is he actually British? He was born in Africa so I wouldn't say he is. Still, while he's contributing to our medals table I'm all for him running for Britain!!

****!

I should elaborate. You fine with him if he's winning gold, but had he been shit he can **** off back to Somalia. You're the kind of guy who calls a black guy all the names under the sun, then celebrates a Lloyd Dyer goal like he's god! It's a bit cuntish really.

Anyway I think his Dad is born here, where's that fit into your narrow minded view of Britishness?

Oh dear, Percy & Simpson... it was almost a formality! Please, Ainsley, have an off day too...
