acooling08 Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 What a twat! I'd say the Olympics have actually revived some national pride and optimism. He claims 'England outside of London shivers beneath cutbacks' etc, yet the main talking point between friends and work mates every day is what happened in the Olympics last night and what's coming up. The vast majority of people I know are enjoying the games. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://uk.news.yahoo...-134000994.html Singer Morrissey has slammed the coverage of the London 2012 Olympics for its "blustering jingoism" - and likened the "foul patriotism" to the Germany of the Nazis. In a statement posted on True To You - an online Morrissey fanzine - the former frontman of The Smiths outlined his distaste for the media attention given to the royal family and the sense of British spirit. He goes on to say that the "spirit of 1939 Germany now pervades throughout media-brand Britain", as a result of the Olympics coverage. The statement reads: "I am unable to watch the Olympics due to the blustering jingoism that drenches the event. Has England ever been quite so foul with patriotism? "The 'dazzling royals' have, quite naturally, hijacked the Olympics for their own empirical needs, and no oppositional voice is allowed in the free press. It is lethal to witness. "As London is suddenly promoted as a super-wealth brand, the England outside London shivers beneath cutbacks, tight circumstances and economic disasters. "Meanwhile, the British media present 24-hour coverage of the 'dazzling royals', laughing as they lavishly spend, as if such coverage is certain to make British society feel fully whole." He added: "s I recently drove through Greece I noticed repeated graffiti seemingly everywhere on every available wall. In large blue letters it said: 'WAKE UP WAKE UP'. "It could almost have been written with the British public in mind, because although the spirit of 1939 Germany now pervades throughout media-brand Britain, the 2013 grotesque inevitability of Lord and Lady Beckham (with Sir Jamie Horrible close at heel) is, believe me, a fate worse than life." Morrissey was also heavily critical of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June, comparing her reign to a dictatorship and describing the celebrations as "a new lesson in the force of tyranny".

Interesting view point.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 That's the best thing about Morrissey, he's always so positive about life.
Nick Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 Yeah there is a valid angle of observation to some of his perceptions but his delivery is a tad over the edge.
AoWW Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 Yeah there is a valid angle of observation to some of his perceptions but his delivery is a tad over the edge. So out of character for him.
sphericalfox Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 He's right to a certain degree. Given a few months I suspect like a great night out full of hilarity and great moments there's going to be come down. There's always a comedown. It's not going to be pretty.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 I personally think he has become an immensely sad parody of himself, and that pretty much every public statement he makes is met with mass eye rolling. He hasn't been taken seriously for years and seems to be better known for cries for attention like this than he is for his music, which is a shame considering his talent.
jonthefox Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 I hate morrisey . Shit band , shit singer and a shit haircut.
purpleronnie Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 He's a legend and will love the fact he's getting the reaction he is. gullable!
Rocket-Ron Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 Sadly the more you ignore him the he gets viler he gets I think Billo has knocked the nail on the head. I used to enjoy some of morrisseys comments and found them quite humorous now he just feels the need to knock anything good / positive.
Saxondale Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 What a complete cock. Always desperate for attention. Grow up you silly old twat.
marty78 Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 He is a cnut of the highest order. Was kind of hoping he'd hung himself by now or at least choked to death on lentils.
purpleronnie Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 What a complete cock. Always desperate for attention. Grow up you silly old twat. yet he rarely does much press, so nah! Keep the negativity responses coming its what he thrives on....oh the irony.
jonthefox Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 yet he rarely does much press, so nah! Keep the negativity responses coming its what he thrives on.....the irony. He must be a blast to go drinking with then.
sphericalfox Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 yet he rarely does much press, so nah! Keep the negativity responses coming its what he thrives on....oh the irony. This.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 Awwwww poor Morrissey, must be upset he was never called up to perform in the opening ceremony. He waited by the phone for several months clutching his Slumdog Millionaire DVD to impress Boyle with as well Just for the record though, this chump is the only act more overrated than U2 in the music industry. Why does anyone still give him time of day?
Saxondale Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 yet he rarely does much press, so nah! Keep the negativity responses coming its what he thrives on....oh the irony. This is a forum, where people share opinions. You suggesting I should score a moral victory by not expressing my opinion? Plus I'm not sure he reads FoxesTalk.
Rocky Dennis Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 These comments were posted on his own website were they not? Why the vitriol towards him then, it's not like he did an interview on Daybreak is it?? I think he had a point to some degree, his opinion his website, whats the problem? Also, the poster who said "Shit Band" - really??

Rocky Dennis Posted 6 August 2012 Posted 6 August 2012 Yep. Personal taste i suppose. Fair enough, I genuinely have never heard anyone say The Smiths were shit! There's no doubt Morrisey polarises people but for me, The Smiths were one of the finest bands of my generation.
