Guest Col city fan Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Normally no, but Beckford and Vardy seem to have linked up ok so far. Perhaps Beckford has benefited from playing next to Vardy and having Drinkwater in midfield. Where as Nugent has only had a few minutes with Vardy and Drinkwater yesterday and none against Sunderland. It's going to take a few games for us to see who is working well with who etc.
TrentFox Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Really surprised people are starting Beckford over Nugent. Should we really leave our top scorer from last season out over one that did not perform up to scratch? The thing about Beckford is ..................................................... ooh - sorry ! Just nodded off in the middle of typing that !!!
acooling08 Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 It's quite hard for me to pick a team, haven't gone to any friendlies so have no idea about the quality most of the new faces. Kasper De Laet Morgan Whitbread (Moore if Zak not fit) Konch Knockout Drinky Danns Marshall Nugent Vardy Subs: Logan, Dyer, James, Moore/Whitbread, Beckford, Futacs, King.
chili_con_carne Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Schmeichel De Laet Moore Morgan Konchesky Marshall Drinkwater Danns Dyer Nugent Vardy Subs: Logan, Kennedy, Parkes, Gallagher, Waghorn, Knockaert, Beckford. Think dyer deserves his place, bring knockaert on at about 60 mins.
Simmo86 Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Same starting XI Knocky coming into the squad in place of Waggy
Fox1994 Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Schmiechel De leat Morgan Moore Koncheskey Marshall Danns Drinky Dyer Beckford Vardy Subs : Logan Kennedy Parkes James Futacs Knockeart Nugent
Fox1994 Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Knockaert may look the better player but I don't see how anyone can think Dyer deserves to be left out. He's playing well and scoring goals. Same team as yesterday for me, can't really leave any of them out at the moment and it's a fast attacking line up. Perfect for Posh He was poor against Sunderland. No doubt he deserves his place at the moment however over the course of the season I think the best role for him would be an impact sub.
Captain... Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 I would be surprised if NP picks the same team for a couple of reasons, one it means he chose his first team for Torquay, 2 it means not one of the first team will be getting a rest when we have 4 games in a short space of time, it also says to the rest of the squad, this is the first team. By all accounts James didn't have a great game, but even so, I would have expected Danns to come in. I would also expect Nugent to come in for Vardy or Beckford, but then NP is normally one for having a first team and sticking with it, so we will see, although I would expect changes, and more changes on Tuesday for Charlton, we have a big squad with lots of options, NP needs to be flexible to get the best out of them, otherwise we will end up with a few players not earning their wages.

I hate Nige's habit of sticking to the same team. I think you need to pick the team for the opposition and the conditions. There were some occasions last season where it appeared we would have benefitted from an injection of a sort of "freshness" however it seemed that if we won Pearson would stick with that team until something forced him to change or we lost.

One would hope that with the squad we have at the moment, there will be a decent bit of rotation! Also like Dyer but unfortunately he has proven that he has one good game, a couple average if not bad. Would love to see knoackaert be given the nod and a decent run in the team!
ARM1968 Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Think it'll be Nugent and Beckford upfront - Vardy on the bench.

I think Knockaert will come on against Posh and start against Charlton, it would be harsh to drop Dyer, and it is not as if Knocky has been sitting around doing nothing he's been away on international duty.

I don't think it's as simple as having a rule of either always picking what you think is your best XI, or always picking the best team for the opposition. For example, you might want to pick a target man or a defensive midfielder when up against a physical side, but if those players are woefully out of form, then it might not be the best idea. At the same time, I agree that the manager's overall favourite XI probably won't be the best team to pick for every single match.

Why do people think Nige will pick the same team for every game? That's ridiculous surely? A good manager picks a team to get the desired result. If that means rotating for fitness, changing a formation and personnel, he should do so.

Based on his first spell in charge more than last season, but even last season he seemed to only change things after we lost, which is too late, and the fact he picked Gallagher and King to play against Millwall away instead of Dyer and Drinkwater, those 2 would have been much more tenacious and battling for Milwall away, but because king and Gallagher came on and changed the game at Ipswich they were seen as more suitable for a combative away trip. It is just an observation, and I am an NP fan, but sometimes he seems too stubborn and rigid in his team selection.

I think Nige will rotate the squad more this season.
LCFC FOX Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Kasper De Leat Moore Morgan © Koncheskey Marshall Danns Drinkwater Dyer Vardy Beckford Subs: Logan , Whitbread , Knockaert , King , James , Nugent , Futacs
NewburyFox Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Kasper De Laet - Moore - Morgan - Konchesky Marshall - Drinkwater - James - Dyer Vardy - Nugent Subs: Logan, Whitbread, King, Danns, Knockaert, Beckford, Waghorn. That's what I think Nigel will play anyway.
EverybodyDannsNow Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Kasper De laet Moore. Morgan. Konchesky Marshall. Danns. Drinkwater. Dyer Vardy. Beckford Subs: logan, kennedy, knockeart, king, james, nugent, futacs. Maybe James in for Danns and Nugent in for Vardy but other than that i think the team will be like that
blueharmie Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 Kasper De Laet -- Moore -- Morgan -- Koncheskey Marshall -- Danns -- Drinkwater -- Dyer Nugent-- Vardy I really think this is the team np will pick. Wish we had a better option than dyer although he does try and has a great attitude, we need qUality in this position.

Guest nathan. Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 We dont know if hes a better option yet. One thing is for sure though hes never had solid competition for his place it could have a positive effect.
Leicester_Numan Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 He was poor against Sunderland. Bluetintedspecs Posted 15 August 2012 Posted 15 August 2012 I think there will be more rotation than NP has previously done. He has made that excellent comment "All the best teams work harder than the others....simple as" so he will rotate our excellent pace around and keep things fresher IMO.
