Peterborough United Pre Match + Starting 11

I hate Nige's habit of sticking to the same team. I think you need to pick the team for the opposition and the conditions. There were some occasions last season where it appeared we would have benefitted from an injection of a sort of "freshness" however it seemed that if we won Pearson would stick with that team until something forced him to change or we lost.

He changed it every other game then?

We need to make a statement of intent in this game and set the stall out for the season. We need at least a 3-0 win and go out all guns blazing.

We want to finish near the top, it's time to dominate tinpot opposition instead of faffing about against a team with 11 behind the ball.

In fairness to posh, I don't think they will come to park the bus. They also won 4-0 yesterday, and they normally like to play attacking football. So should make for an interesting game. Other teams will come to the KP to park the bus, but don't think they will. We'll see.

Same team as yesterday's.

By looking at Peterborough's squad, I see no reason why we could struggle to get anything from the game.

I just hope we now have players that WANT to play for the club and not the damn money!

This is the season.

I think there will be more rotation than NP has previously done. He has made that excellent comment "All the best teams work harder than the others....simple as" so he will rotate our excellent pace around and keep things fresher IMO.

In reply to this, and previous posts noting NP's reluctance to change the team from game to game, it will be interesting to see whether he changes things around more often this season. I think he's assembled a squad here that gives him far more options for doing this than at any other time he's been in charge of us; and I also get a feeling that the players are more flexible in the roles they can play, so that changes can be made fairly seamlessly.

This makes the season more exciting in prospect for me. I think we will be able to change things around to suit the oppostion and the state of the game far more than before (and having 7 subs adds to this too). We have the ability, too, to counter-attack effectively as Reading did last season.

On the subject of Dyer, like several others I would prefer him to keep his place against Posh, with Knockaert coming on at some point, and the likelihood being that at some stage in the season Knockaert will become first choice in the side.

Fingers crossed I am an optimist by nature tinged with the reality of following our great team :sweating: I really do like the look of the squad NP has assembled and really do have the feeling it will be a good season due to greater options and IMO quality!

Surely will be unchanged.

Would have said two weeks ago i would definitely have Danns to start alongside either DD/James but seems as though they've done enough to nail the two central midfield slots down, and granted i haven't been to the Torquay/Sunderland so won't comment.

Would say Nugent deserves to start though, as for who i have no idea though. :dunno:

I thought this last season.. It is probably Nigel's biggest flaw even above the ego thing.

Same team as last night, maybe Tony Knock will come on towards the end to get some game time early doors.

I fancy our chances against Peterborough's flaky defence as well, 3-1 City.

Marshall, Beckford and Nugent to score for us.

Wouldn't be surprised if Nugent played off the bench alot this season, imo he struggles to get through a full 90 minutes. Now that we have a decent choice of quality striker i can see him being used more sparingly.

I think it will be the same team as Tuesday as he looks to build confidence and momentum for the first few games. Once the season has bedded in, we'll start to see some more rotation from him. Remember, this is now pretty much NP's squad and team so he won't have to stick with players due to there not being alternatives (for whatever reason).

Looking at the highlights (it's all I have from here!!) we look to be playing with a lot of pace and drive throughout the team. A lot of that is coming from Marshall and I love it!

Final word on team for Sat. If there is a change, I think it might be Danns for James but as I have no idea how James was over the whole game and with the fact he scored and NP likes to go with a settled team I'm sticking with him.

Think it will be a good start but don't think we will dominate them by 3-4 goals like some people think. I think it will be 2-1 with Dyer and Vardy scoring the goals! As far as the team goes, we played well on Tuesday, albeit against a lower opposition, but it would have given the players some confidence so i see no need to change it yet.

I will probably be way off the mark with my 4-1, 4-0 but i just feel we will get a real good result & i have a feeling that posh will be fighting relegation for most of the season. Don't get me wrong, they can play decent football at times but they cannot defend to good. Our attack will be very strong this season & can see us getting goals from everywhere.

If Nugent is third choice we should move him as we can't pay a player a high wage to sit on the bench.

I actually think Nugent is our best striker but people use this argument against Beckford so I thought it only fair to reverse it.

This will be a long season, NP has already said we have a smallish squad and he expects everyone of them to play a part throughout the campaign. Vardy has made a big step up in terms of fitness, ensurance and physicality, I just wonder how he will cope with two games a week initially.

It's not that small a squad, and it is filled with quality, there are no hangers on like Ball, Paintsil, Johnson and no old farts like Howard, Oakley, Berner etc (no disrespect to those 3 players, loved them all, but they had to move on). If NP has confidence in the likes of Moore, Taft, and Parkes to be able to cover in defence then we have a pretty exciting squad. I'm quite excited by Saturday.

This.

Pretty much everyone in the squad has a role to play now, as opposed to a load of players on the books who we never saw. After last season, Mrs London Fox can't understand why I am so excited about saturday, but I think it'll be quality
