purpleronnie Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 You don't have to just have one day where you spend the day as a family together eating turkey when you'd rather have chicken! Who said we did?
ousefox Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 Who said we did? It was a response to somebody finding that sad.....the response including the reason why i don't find it sad.
MooseBreath Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 yeah incredibly dull. We have a dinner if we're not abroad, but we're not religious and don't buy any expensive presents or anything. Even though most a lot of people who aren't interested in religion part still like the tradition it doesn't really do it for me. Would rather use the money to go on holiday or sometihng. You could try pooling all of your gift money together and using it to pay for a family activity. If there's four of you and you each usually spend say £30 on each other then that's £360, which should be enough to do something half decent
Zingari Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 i always eat too much , drink too much , make a complete arse of myself ............actually it's pretty much a normal day for me too.

TrentFox Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 Spending Xmas day at my Grandads, Hull on Boxing Day then New York on the 27th for 6 days. Christmas really is all about spending time with one's family, isn't it ? Still ... there are some good bits, too !
Northants Fox 3 Posted 12 October 2012 Posted 12 October 2012 Shops have Christmas cards and Tins of Sweets on the shelves now (It all starts in September now FACT) Same as Easter Eggs will be out on shelves In January (Also FACT)
Guest MattP Posted 13 October 2012 Posted 13 October 2012 If I ran a supermarket I'd whack the Xmas trees out in April and just laugh at the drone of moaning that followed....
Rincewind Posted 13 October 2012 Posted 13 October 2012 I don't celebrate much now. Won't be able to get a lot of drinks in and I'll be on my own. Although I did get a last minute invite off my brother last year. If I get some Xmas work I'll be doing that to Xmas Eve to try and get some extra money in. Presents wise I'm too old to get excited about them. All family grown up even my youngest niece is 18 now Can't think of any younger unless related once or twice removed. I may just be given money as that is what I need most. That will allow me to have a couple of pints in Weatherspoons. It's gonna be a fun Xmas. I don't know where the religion part comes in. The dates do not matc the legend and fairy tales. So Xmas for me has always been about presents when I was a kid booze when in teens and twentys and family when I aged..

Haydos Posted 13 October 2012 Posted 13 October 2012 What a bunch of miserable bastards we've got here. Best time of the year, the booze, the family and friends, the parties, the happiness, the music. Can't wait, still like a kid when it comes to Christmas. Pretty sure I posted this word for word last year. I don't get the hate. Good atmosphere, everyone seems a bit more cheerful, food, getting pissed way more than I should, wrapping up warm, fires, fridge always stocked up, seeing mates I haven't seen for ages. I love it.

It'll all depend on your circumstances. How old you are. If you have a family you get on with. And whether you live in proximity of family and friends. I'm not keen on the hype, expectations, and indulgence of Christmas. For some I would imagine it's a depressing and lonely time of year. I have a young family, so for me, it's an opportunity, albeit forced, to spend time with my immediate young family, and this makes me happy. Not all the bullshit that goes with a holiday that's about selling and instilling greed and oneupmanship amongst our children.

Couldn't have out it better myself, I love the good mood it's put everybody in pubs, bars and clubs etc and love the annual get together at me old grans not worrying about what I eat/drink and having a laugh with the family. I can't stand all the fake pressure there is to have the "perfect christmas" that the retailers force down your throat every year and the competition of present buying I just don't get in with at all. It's all about the social side of it for me.
StanSP Posted 13 October 2012 Posted 13 October 2012 Hate when people start counting down to my birthday. Pfft. I do like that time of year though.
Orkneyfox Posted 13 October 2012 Posted 13 October 2012 and an old one for you: Imagine my joy when I was getting out the Christmas decorations and found a present I forgot to give my kids last year. Their excited faces were a picture as they unwrapped it and opened the box. Such a pity it was a puppy.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 13 October 2012 Posted 13 October 2012 It's all about the family over Christmas, apart from the Boxing Day fixture

I don't hate Christmas I just dislike the people who spend literally like a quarter of the year obsessing that its "getting closer." Fundamentally because it's completely the result of incessant advertising.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 14 October 2012 Posted 14 October 2012 Oh **** off. As a postie, THIS! The madness has started much earlier this year though and seems a lot heavier. I thought we were in a recession?

Rincewind Posted 14 October 2012 Posted 14 October 2012 People go into debt for Christmas. Not just parents. I'm thinking about maybe the older grandparents. Little old ladies go without food and heating just to buy a present for their umpteen grandkids. 'Can't miss Joey out, if I'm buying for the others' Then there are the hundreds of Christmas cards sent to distant relatives just in case they send you one. There are more marriage breakups just after Xmas than any other time of the year. More family arguments as well. Work colleagues fall out for 11 months of the year but still send Xmas cards to each other. Also Mary lied to Joseph. She was not a virgin. She had it off with Cohen next door, told Joseph the angel story and he was that thick he believed it.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 14 October 2012 Posted 14 October 2012 Not a big fan of Christmas, best thign by far is all the football on around it. TV used to be decent but recent years its been like the other 51 weeks of the year, crap. Time off from work is good too, but working in retail means I'll still be in for days between Christmas and New Year. Means I'm asking for a lot of days off to watch LCFC
potter3 Posted 14 October 2012 Posted 14 October 2012 We've had to put all the Christmas crap out in the shop already, it's October.
Rincewind Posted 14 October 2012 Posted 14 October 2012 I'm dreading the Xmas piped music in the shops. Even worse if I get a part time xmas job in one. Don't know how long I'll last. I'll either pack it in or cut my throat.
