5waller5 Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Everyone saw the game as two points lost, the only difference in opinion is over why we lost them. Is there any disagreement?? We dominated the game. We didn't take our chances. They were still in the game when they shouldn't have been. That allows a mistake by defender or ref to make a difference when it shouldn't have. Waghorn missed most of the good chances.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Not really. He looked like a crap finisher and was a crap finisher. Do you realise how many chances we had today and how many were on target, just tame? The ref gave a penalty that wasn't but we should have been out of sight long before then. I'm not exclusively blaming Waghorn. Nugent, Knockaert, Dyer all missed tidy chances and it's evident our finishing right across the team is poor at the moment. Bolton was another example. But I do get immensely frustrated with the people who feel that the only way to combat the "boo boys" and blind critics is to take an equally absurd view the other way. Waghorn is a poor forward, he isn't a goalscorer and he's not given us any real sign that he'll ever be particularly lethal at this level. Again, today, he was the main offender when it came to butchering opportunities in the final quarter. That's not to say his overall performance was poor, it clearly wasn't, he was much better today with some good running, some strong holding of the ball and a superb lay off to Dyer for the opener. But what's wrong with being reasonable and neutral when it comes to evaluating our players? You're a smart enough guy yet yourself and others seem ferociously determined to entrench yourself in and defend Pearson, Waghorn and others despite glaringly obvious flaws because you seem to feel that if you don't you're letting the mouth-breathers win. Just ignore the morons, block them out, and adopt a bit of rationality. Because, seriously, Waghorn was worth little more than a "6" today and despite clear signs of improvement I seriously don't see us pushing for a top three position unless we bring in a better player to back up Nugent. What a sooper post!!!
Finnegan Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 What a sooper post!!! Yeah, thanks for that ringing endorsement, Col.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Yeah, thanks for that ringing endorsement, Col. Genuine mate. Word for word I agree.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Genuine mate. Word for word I agree. I thought it was harsh and bollox
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 I thought it was harsh and bollox And you call me aggressive!! Get back on the Guiness!
Finnegan Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Word for word I agree. That's what worries me.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 That's what worries me. Fair enough... Your talking out your arse.. Better?

Because, seriously, Waghorn was worth little more than a "6" today and despite clear signs of improvement I seriously don't see us pushing for a top three position unless we bring in a better player to back up Nugent. I gave him little more than a 6 (I gave him a 7). My defense maybe seems a little strong but if you look at the player ratings no one got more than a 7 from me today and Pearson got criticism for making a poor substitution leaving us with only one striker up top when he could have easily had Futacs alongside Waghorn or better yet moved Schlupp into an advanced role and had De Laet slot in at left-back as we're so frequently told that he is versatile and capable of doing a job there. I've also quite clearly stated that Waghorn should have had one goal today (I believe only one). So contrary to popular belief I do not defend Pearson or Waghorn from all criticism, but you're being overly critical and far too quick to dismiss him as 'a poor forward'. You frustrate me with posts like this as much as anything a drunk Col City Fan, an impatient Kingfox or a lunatic WUM posts on a daily basis because you feel it's perfectly reasonable to dismiss a striker who has already shown that he's a good forward (I'm not saying he's a 20 goal a season man or anything ridiculous like that), because of a couple of constantly disrupted seasons. Waghorn has been misused for some time, yes fitness has played a part recently, but what has played an even bigger part is the fact that we've positioned him on the wing, or as we saw at the end of the game have forced him into playing the lone striker role, which he is generally ineffective at. Yes today he missed some good chances, but I can assure you that I had a perfect view of the save from Camp, and honestly he barely kept it out. The one that was cleared off the line, yes should have been converted straight away, but again he was incredibly close to getting the goal. His all round performance today was impressive. When it comes to his finishing I didn't think that on this evidence he was someone who can never finish chances like you obviously did. I felt on a number of occasions when the ball fell to him he had every chance of scoring, but it simply wouldn't find its way into the back of the net. Confidence has played a key part in that, and at the end he seemed unwilling to have a go because perhaps he couldn't see the ball crossing the line either, but he showed enough to suggest that we're incredibly close to getting back the player we had on loan. I doubt you'll ever like Waghorn to be honest, based on the fact that you are clearly a fan of attractive football over all else (If memory serves me correct), but personally I think that the striker he was a few years ago is more than capable of slotting into a side that is not just looking for a play-off place but that is pushing for an automatic-promotion place. Many don't seem to think that player is going to come back, but then I'd suggest most didn't anticipate the performances we got in the last two games either.

Which is why many, myself included, think that a goal or two and we might have the player we had previously back. It's not like he is incapable of scoring, go back to the first post and you'll see the evidence that you need that he can score goals in this division. He has played that well in the last week but without the goals, it'll be and has been a frustrating wait, but when he starts scoring again (and he will), we'll have the same player we had three years ago.

Wait till you've sobered up and have a look at some of yours, I admit that you're drinking handicaps you when it comes to good posts, but you're still a hypocrite. Edit: You don't even need to sober up, just look at the posters who are agreeing with you.

I've just sussed it ...... Mark W = Mark Waghorn!!! You're his brother???? If it's not then i just simply don't get your blind loyalty to the guy. He's not a striker .... lovely lad and a tryer .... but that doesn't get my team promotion and that's why i'd like to see him replaced.

Happy Fox Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 Loan him out to a league one team if he cannot score goals at that level than I would worry for the lad's future in the game certainly isn't pulling his weight as far as goals is concerned agree his work ethic is good, but Vardy when fit is well ahead of him.

I simply can't be arsed to go through your every point defending the indefensible. He's a nice lad and a tryer .... He doesn't score goals and he's a striker .... This will cost us promotion. You can stick with him if you like ..... I'd rather move on and finish teams off when we dominate games like today - not spend my time defending why Waghorn didn't score.

Maybe you need a bit more patience then because you also wanted us to move on by getting rid of Nigel Pearson and you've just started a thread praising him.

Don't worry Mark. When Babs comes back on I'd be surprised if he isn't defending any of the players to the hilt too.
GingerrrFox Posted 10 November 2012 Posted 10 November 2012 The abuse of Waghorn is ginere! He was one our best players today.

It's because i have an opinion based on the reality i see at the time ..... not an agenda or a pre defined view that I'll just defend however ridiculous it becomes. You can change your mind if reality changes. It's OK!!!
