Worried?

Recommended Posts

Are we getting a bit worried with the team performances then ? Even when we were losing games early in the season we were easily the better team and everyone knew eventually the results would come and they have, but recently we haven't deserved anything, are we a bit worried that team will start to slide down the table or is this just our purple patch and we'll bounce back soon

No, been there, done that.

The teams wobbling slightly but every team does during a season, i'd be worried if we were playing utter garbage up until now and had fluked things but we have played some nice football and deserved to be top of the league for that short time.

I just thought I'd put various stats up for the season so far.

I think these are important as they show where we are doing well, and where we need improvement.

The first is 'clean sheets' which shows we have made our home games into 'Fortress King Power':

The second is 'assists', which, like last season, is surprisingly low. None of our players appear until Konchesky? about a third of the way down:

The third is 'leading scorers'. Like last season, this demonstrates that only Nugent is our regular goal-scoring striker, and how important Andy King's goals remain:

Finally, and perhaps of most concern is the shooting table. This shows that, despite us having lots of possession in games, we are rarely putting such possession to good use. We are fifth from bottom in terms of shots on target, although we have hit the woodwork 6 times:

Basically, our success so far has been down to being defensively tight at home. This is exactly the same as under Pearson's first tenure. The difference this season is goals conceded away from home. During the play-off season, we lost less frequently away, instead picking up points from draws and some wins. We were much harder to break-down, away from home, during the play-off season.

Under Nige, (both now and then) we have scored relatively few goals.

Make of these what you will, or nothing if you don't believe in stats.

i think the depth again seems to be a worry for me, when we have couple of players having an off day we dont really seem to have that bit extra to come in and try and alter it. over a season this could prove too costly.

Not in the slightest. This league is so competitive that every team will go through this - they will have fans that overreact just like some of our fans - they will also be the same fans who proclaim we are gonna win the league if we go unbeaten in the next two games.

We did seem to be getting pulled out of position at the back yesterday. Moore didn't have his best game and Whitbread was a bit erratic. I'd like to see SSL and De Laet back. I thought Futacs looked capable and offered something different and Waghorn's confidence seems to back.

Not worried though. We havent had much luck in the last two games.

5 defeats already though - most play off teams only lose around 10 -12 times so we're half way there a quarter of the way in

since were near the top I suppose that means that we're winning more than is normal too. The unusal thing is that we're not drawing games.
