Guest Col city fan Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 I stated I thought this would be a tough game, and expected a close win. It seems we were lucky to get a point. There is no need to panic, but we really must win these sort of games, if we are to gain promotion this season It's worrying we leaked to goals against a mediocre attack We need a striker, and I would personally be looking Inverness Cally Thistle striker, Billy McKay. I saw him a couple of times a few months ago, when I was in Scotland. He is fast, highly skilled, and has an extremely clever footballing brain.. Added to that, he is a terrier with a high work ethic, and it is only a matter of time before other clubs will be chasing him. Do you mean THE Billy McKay who left at the same time as Billy Kee? He was our Academy player?

Babylon Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 An all action central midfielder, haven't we got three of them already? No... Unless they are your definition of all action.
Danno Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 What was your reaction after our last two home wins? **** off. Yeah we're barcelona we smashed two utter shlt teams at home big wow. I would accept a draw today against someone good but it's Barnsley and all our players were awful. Their first goal was embarrassing. That's 90 mins I'll never get back
Guest Col city fan Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 No... Unless they are your definition of all action. What's your definition? A player that can both defend and attack?

That's 90 mins I'll never get back Those shit teams beat Millwall and Leeds respectively today. We've had a bad day at the office but there's little doubting our potential to do well. One bad game doesn't make a bad team, we've had far more positives than negatives this season.
cc_star Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 Really don't think we need a striker at all, signing a striker would add to the squad problem. They'd have to be happy being a bit-part player, or one of the existing players would have to be happy being a bit-part player. We've got a tight competitive squad & signing someone would just be signing a problem that we've had for 2 years & only just (expensively) got rid of. I love King, but I think James' composure & use of the ball would be advantageous to us at the moment and I'd be inclined to partner James with Drinkwater next time out. Schlupp for Konch, I don't know anything of his performance today, but he was his usual liability against Derby and Schlupp offers far more in attack. It's no surprise Dyer was looking a world-beater whilst Konch was injured & schlupp was playing, now dyer seems nulified by having a hoofer behind him Vardy enables the team to play better, he links up brilliantly with either the wide-men or the midfield enabling more people to join in attacks & make them more meaningful. If Nuge is still a doubt, it could be playing on his mind and he's better off resting to get 100% We've looked better at the back when Whitbread isn't in the team IMO too Next time out De Laet - Moore - Morgan - Schlupp Knockaert - James - Drinky - Dyer Waggy - Vardy Marshall+Futacs on 60mins if all is not going well.
kingfox Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 No... Unless they are your definition of all action. All action in my opinion means that they get all over the midfield, defend and attack. Or do you mean someone like King again, who can score goals.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 We Might have been poor, but we were not lucky to get a point. I only read the posts, as I didn't go, so you may well be right.

We are going to Millwall away and you'd play with a flat 4-4-2 and re-introduce young Moore who hasn't played for weeks?

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 I'm sure McKay is a product of our academy. Sounds familiar anyway. Could well be, but I can't remember his face. All I know is that he is banging in goals each week, and is the Scottish Premiership player of the month. He looked top class to me, even against Celtic. His value must be rocketing.
Danno Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 We are going to Millwall away and you'd play with a flat 4-4-2 and re-introduce young Moore who hasn't played for weeks? 4-4-2 with Moore against the likes of Darius Henderson . Jesus wept, thank god some people arent manager

Adding one player won't destroy our squad ethic. You say 'bit part player' I say a player who can provide competition and give the squad more strength going forward.

Babylon Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 No, you're right... Lets play Whitbread and give them at least a 2 goal start What you mean like Moore at Wolves, Blackburn etc. Moore was as iffy as Whitbread.
kingfox Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 No, you're right... Lets play Whitbread and give them at least a 2 goal start With the team you have put down I would definitely not play that, wouldn't start Moore he has been poor in all his away games, wouldn't drop King because he is capable of scoring from midfield and I wouldn't start Schlupp at left-back.

What I'd do (although I'm not a football manager of course) is stick with Konch and Whitbread, drop James in just behind the two midfield players and encourage King to get forward as much as he could. Both to link up the attack and to make his excellent bursts into the opposition area. Waggy right, Dyer left, Nuge down the middle. 4-1-2-3 Try to control the middle and hit them on the counter.

King has never worked further forward, he works best reading the game on the edge of our box, getting in there & starting an attack off... he's then free to ghost in late & unmarked in the box, in that respect Scholes was similar too he was the player to receive the ball on the edge of MU's box & spray it outwide, before belatedly joining in the attack. I've never seen King do anything remotely useful as an attacking midfielder - it's his ghosting in that is the secret to his success.
Ely fox Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 I am stunned that you have included Andy King in the same sentence as paul Scholes
kingfox Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 This is what I would play for Millwall. Schmeichel De Laet, Whitbread, Morgan, Konchesky James Drinkwater, King Waghorn, Nugent, Dyer Unfortunately I think if we don't play three in midfield we will get overpowered again, Millwall are incredibly physical and they will get stuck in at every opportunity.
THEFATBASTARD Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 This place is the pits when we lose. should be ok then, cos we didn't lose... the first barnsley goal was one of the most unprofessional peices of complacent play I have seen in a very long time, thats when the rot really set in. I hope these 2 points lost don't comeback to haunt us. Anybody see knockart sprinting through the crowds away from the stadium staight after the game? I thought some coppers were after him.
dannythefox Posted 8 December 2012 Posted 8 December 2012 Thought we did well the first 20 and the last 15mins but one mistake from Kasper cost us the first goal we just didn't seem to get going after that, I think Marshall is really pushing for a start now would love to see him and Futcas in the starting line up.
