StanSP Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 I suppose they did get a favourable side in the CL, but nevertheless the record shows they got to the semis. And Man City even failed in the Europa League too, which I suppose didn't help Kompany's case either no doubt. Anyway, for 2012 alone, I would have sacrificed Pique for Kompany, despite Pique being a Euro Champ winner. Pique doesn't stand out for me but Kompany does. I think Kompany could feel hard done by that he's got no recognition. I do love a good football debate! .
I am Rod Hull Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 But 10 are Barcelona and Real Madrid players just shows how good their players are. Or how far in front Real and Barca are compared to other cash strapped Spanish clubs (Celtic/Rangers - Man Utd/Arsenal syndrome) , neither of them made the Champions league final did they and neither of them will win it this year Dortmund will win it

I suppose I've said all I wanted to say really, the voting system produced the wrong team IMO which is what is all I wanted to have a whine about. I still think people are biased towards Madrid and Barcelona but looking back at what I wrote I realise I did exaggerate quite a bit on that point!
Guest MattP Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 So La Liga is the best is it? A 2 team league who`s top 2 sides got dicked in the champions league semis by Germans and English clubs.... Fantasy land, mate Real are the third best this season. If you really think Bayern and Chelsea 'dicked' them then I'd go and watch the games again. What about Spains tenth best side dicking Man Utd home and away last season? (and that actually was a dicking rather than shoving 11 men behind the ball hoping for a set piece to win) In that team of the year I think Buffon, Lahm and Kompany had shouts in their positions but I can't argue with it overall. If anyone seriously thinks La Liga isn't the best league out there now they either don't watch it or know nothing about football. and there was a reason Yaya Toure couldn't get in Barcelona's team.
Guest MattP Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 Pirlo should be in it but I'd kick Xavi out. Alonso does everything Xavi does but better. I really hope thats a joke, as brilliant as Pirlo is Xavi is the best central midfielder player in the World.
Guest MattP Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 My XI Buffon Alves Kompany Pique Lahm Iniesta Pirlo Xavi Ronaldo Falcao Messi
foxfanazer Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 Mata Mata Mata Mata Mata Mata Mata Mata Mata Mata Mata/messi
StanSP Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 My XI Buffon Alves Kompany Pique Lahm Iniesta Pirlo Xavi Ronaldo Falcao Messi I like that.. I think Alves makes it on the official list and other people's lists through sheer lack of adequate competition.
Danizen Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 I like that.. I think Alves makes it on the official list and other people's lists through sheer lack of adequate competition. I'd have to agree, there. Especially since Lahm switched sides.
Fox in the North Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 My XI Buffon Alves Kompany Pique Lahm Iniesta Pirlo Xavi Ronaldo Falcao Messi I'd take that, I find the thing with the goalies is that it could one of any as there seems to be loads of top quality goal keepers about.
foxfanazer Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 I'd take that, I find the thing with the goalies is that it could one of any as there seems to be loads of top quality goal keepers about. i think Nuer will be the best soon
TheSomersetFox Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 Doesn't Iniesta play out wide to accommodate Fabregas these days? Don't really watch a lot of La Liga, seriously bores me. All the empty seats and lack of atmosphere doesn't help.
Guest MattP Posted 7 January 2013 Posted 7 January 2013 i think Nuer will be the best soon He was my number 1 last year but he didn't really have a great year for Bayern in the end apart from that night in the Bernabeu.

All the empty seats and lack of atmosphere doesn't help. He tends to float around the left side of the pitch. He doesn't offer much width, though as he keeps coming in to combine with Xavi.

Real are 3rd best for a reason, but they still get 4 players into the FIFA side of the year, yes they won La Liga but come undone by a better team in the CL semi. You can sit there and say that La Liga is the best league in the world and yes I watch it, but its just Barca and Real spending 80 minutes in the other teams half. And Pique couldn`t get into Utds team so I don`t know wtf you`re going on about Toure for.... I can only think that you are seduced by the man on the telly instead of making your own opinion

If you think it's 80% of Real spending time in their opponents half then I come to the conclusion you really haven't watched too much of it this season. Were Bayern the better team over Real? They won a shoot out, not sure if that means they were outclassed. Chelsea certainly didn't outclass Barca, they got very lucky and did in the final as well, if it wasnt for Drogba we'd be calling it the worst CL final performance of all time. Presume you think our best side Utd will have no problem seeing off the third best in Spain then? Fancy a few £'s on it?

Wouldn't be surprised to see Gotze/Reus in that team next year and the German league looks about ready to overtake the EPL in the UEFA coeffcient http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Everyone is criticising, but I've not seen anyone suggest any better for any of those positions. Pirlo, Hummels, van Persie, Lahm, and (don't hate me) Ashley Cole could all have staken claims. The inclusion of Marcelo is the one that really stands out to me as being iffy. It just highlights the difficulty of picking a world XI.
darko2k7 Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Just proves La Liga is the best League in the World and not the Premiership. Whole team from La Liga Three nominees all from La Liga Three manager nominees, La Liga/Spanish National Just shows how good and dominant that country is nowadays, people may say Kompany deserves a place, or Van Persie or Hart, but in my opinion they don't, La Liga is the best, even if people think Ramos and Pique are overrated. They may have the best players in the World but that does not make it the best league . The EPL is watched by a lot more people globally ,not to mention apart from the big games in Spain all the grounds are always half empty plus the EPL is far more competitive IMO. I mean you only have to look at former failed EPL players that then go to Spain and score a bucket load i.e Forlan and even Ronaldo is scoring over 50 goals a season over there , nearly a hat-trick every game it seems like . He would never be able to do that over here.

Think Spain has a higher average attendance than us as well now.

Having the best players in the world doesn't make it the best league, there is far more reasons why the EPL is considered the best and it is the most watched....
