purpleronnie Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Not a chance England - http://www.soccersta...?league=england Spain- http://www.soccersta...sp?league=spain The key column being the last % full Not sure why thats the key column that just shows they have larger stadiums. But the fact remains the EPL does have a higher average than la liga. The comparison is a tough one, I agree with Mattp the spanish league seems much more competitive after the big 2 than the EPL is. The quality of football in Spain is higher then in England IMO and they have the best players in most positions, but I find the EPL more exciting (in general), and we have a great football pyramid without the need for reserve teams to be in them. There's no doubt despite chelsea winning the CL the standard in the EPL has declined over the past 10 years. Although I disagree with the 'best' team having all those barcelona and Real madrid players in it, I dont think they'd be any from the EPLthat I would include.
ousefox Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Ashley Cole is the best left back in the world for me. Certainly better than Marcelo!
Guest shearfox Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Ashley Cole is the best left back in the world for me. Certainly better than Marcelo! I think his performances in the CL warranted an inclusion on its own.. he was unreal...
bmt Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Ashley Cole is the best left back in the world for me. Certainly better than Marcelo! I don't think Marcelo deserved to be put in either but Ashley Cole? Last couple of months he's been average at best, most people watching the premier league this season would say Baines is better, and the World XI can't ignore that.
bmt Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Real are the third best this season. If you really think Bayern and Chelsea 'dicked' them then I'd go and watch the games again. What about Spains tenth best side dicking Man Utd home and away last season? (and that actually was a dicking rather than shoving 11 men behind the ball hoping for a set piece to win) In that team of the year I think Buffon, Lahm and Kompany had shouts in their positions but I can't argue with it overall. If anyone seriously thinks La Liga isn't the best league out there now they either don't watch it or know nothing about football. and there was a reason Yaya Toure couldn't get in Barcelona's team. Agree with everything you say apart from the Toure Barcelona comment. He couldn't get in their team because of their footballing philosophy more than his ability imo. Support aside, La Liga is definitely the best league in the world and the EPL and bundesliga are about level. If the top team in England played the second in spain a couple of times (to get rid of fluke results), the second in spain played the second in england, the third played the third and so on, it would be a long way down the table before we saw any English victors. And if it's just down to support, the support in England has been absolutely shite for the last year or so. Yeah numbers-wise it is good but for atmosphere etc. it's miles behind the German, Eastern European and South American Leagues without doubt.
Mack Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 I watched Barca at the weekend. Completely pointless. Their opposition turned up beaten and the game was over within 30 minutes.

No it shows that most of the la liga stadiums are half empty on match days compared to the EPL where most of the stadiums are nearly full . And just by glancing at the capacity column and not working it out they look around the same to me .
Finnegan Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 You need to consider the financial situation of a lot of people in Spain compared to here as well, mind.

Unless you're mystic meg I don't know how you can claim that. I think I had had this discussion with MattP before, I think at the end of the day its down to your personal opinion of what you like to watch. Spanish, English and German are all top leagues with top player neither one is better than the other.
MC Prussian Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 You need to consider the financial situation of a lot of people in Spain compared to here as well, mind. The financial situation of most Spanish clubs is atrocious, to say the least. I still don't get it how they can spend millions, without having to fear any major retribution. Was it Real Madrid that were forced to sell their entire training facilities in order to stay liquid? Today Madrid takes in a reported 350 million euros annually, with approximately 39% of that proceeding from marketing and commercial activities, and 38% from television rights.... It is assumed by most outside analysts that many of (Real Madrid president Ramon) Calderón's signings were made with loans that used the TV money as collateral. In effect, they are spending tomorrow's money today. http://bleacherrepor...t-so-much-money The government is way too lenient on them, I guess it's got to do with marketing potential and the positive sales image thanks to the amount of star players in La Liga. Imagine a scenario where Messi and C. Ronaldo no longer play in Spain.
bmt Posted 8 January 2013 Posted 8 January 2013 Unless you're mystic meg I don't know how you can claim that. Obviously not but all I meant is the spanish league is, team for team, better than ours quite a way down the table in my opinion.
Guest MattP Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 So then, anyone think three top flight Spanish sides would lose to Bradford in a season? You need to consider the financial situation of a lot of people in Spain compared to here as well, mind. Took the words right out of my mouth. I have no idea what attendances are to do with it either, if we go on that logic the German league is the best in Europe by a mile.
Captain... Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 Reserve side Neuer Lahm Silva Hummels Cole Di Maria Schweinsteiger Pirlo Mata Gomez Van Persie Now that would be a match, a La Liga 11 vs a mixture of German Italian and EPL 11 Or scrap the whole community shield bollocks, and have the EPL team of the season play against the La Liga team of the season.
ScouseFox Posted 9 January 2013 Posted 9 January 2013 So then, anyone think three top flight Spanish sides would lose to Bradford in a season? Well Barca lost to Celtic. About the same level as Bradford

Would be good to watch that, kinda like a Pro Bowl for Football
