Saxondale Posted 12 January 2013 Posted 12 January 2013 Lyrics - are they just bollocks? I've got into several debates on 'ere previously about the value of lyrics in music - usually relating to Bob Dylan. It occured to me that many of my all time favourite tracks are actually instrumentals. What are your thoughts? What are your favourite instrumental tracks?
TheUltimateWinner Posted 12 January 2013 Posted 12 January 2013 This is just so beautiful... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k92JeYCWwQk for relaxing, this is just, breathtaking...
Alf Bentley Posted 12 January 2013 Posted 12 January 2013 An old favourite dating from the 60s, listening to my parents' record collection (it's a live performance, too): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_s1iWA8DkM Outstanding lyrics can add so much, but for the best songs it is always the music that moves me. Great lyrics without great music? Write a novel or a poem!
Saxondale Posted 12 January 2013 Author Posted 12 January 2013 Great lyrics without great music? Write a novel or a poem! My point entirely!

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 12 January 2013 Posted 12 January 2013 Posted in the other instrumentals thread but it needs re-doing: Trent Reznor you utter genius. And obviously, post-rock in some form or another:
LcFc_Smiv Posted 12 January 2013 Posted 12 January 2013 My all time favourite and another one The geek in me loves this one too
Saxondale Posted 13 January 2013 Author Posted 13 January 2013 Not on the same level as the tracks in my OP, but... On a side note, I've noticed people are posting instrumental versions of lyricised songs (as I have just done), whereas my posts were instrumentals to begin with. Not that it matters.

Fox42 Posted 25 January 2013 Posted 25 January 2013 Some chilled out electro and some progressive house in there. I love it. Never a fan of lyrics...
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 February 2013 Posted 10 February 2013 It's a long one but worth watching some one of the best guitarists around, had the pleasure of seeing him live in front of a few thousand people.
shen Posted 11 February 2013 Posted 11 February 2013 It's a long one but worth watching some one of the best guitarists around, had the pleasure of seeing him live in front of a few thousand people. I still prefer the version from the Max Sessions, but a top drawer tune either way!
Leicfox Posted 7 April 2013 Posted 7 April 2013 This is pretty special from the film Inception. http://youtu.be/qsZf2llz9vA
Fox42 Posted 14 July 2013 Posted 14 July 2013 Only just discovered the magnificent Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Half classical, half ambient. Now known as Penguin Cafe since their maestro died.

Alf Bentley Posted 28 November 2015 Posted 28 November 2015 NEU! (1972 - decades ahead of their time) The mellow side.... The abrasive side:
