Absolutely loved Princes, surprised you have Ganton above it having played both myself. All opinions of course! I want to do the 54 there one day, but think the dates are Feb and November which is dangerous for links golf! You're asking for trouble!

Heard that Beau Desert have lost the greens currently due to fusarium, so avoid that for now. A real shame because that's a great golf course.

Not played JCB so can't help you there, people say it's immense but just long, too long for most amateurs. All comes back to the tee box comments made in relation to other top courses, playing the correct tee box really increases your enjoyment.

To be honest it's a bit of toss up between Ganton and Princes for me, Ganton is hard, and I think is the better course, just, but I'd rather be a member at Princes. Which I appreciate is a bit contradictory.

They do an event called the Hagen 54, where you play all three in one day, it's a 6:30 start and takes place in July. Just the £995.00 per person.

I've heard similar about JCB, from people that have played it and from what I've seen on Youtube. Like most people in Leicestershire, I know someone who says they know someone who could maybe get us on, but that's failed to materialise as of yet and I don't expect that to change.

I played Shirland yesterday. Not a bad course for the money. Couple of big hills on the back 9 though.

Luckily I've just bought an electric trolley as I need it nowadays. Otherwise I'd have been blowing out my arse by the finish.

Might be playing Trent Lock next Sunday too. That looks very nice with some interesting holes.

Forgot to mention Nefyn is a decently priced course if ever in North Wales. Made famous by the Visit Wales TV adverts several years ago, it's pretty good. Played it twice as I tend to go to that region at least once a year.

Played Hellidon Lakes this morning, near Daventry.

Decent course, 3 loops of 9, could be in better condition and fairly short, but can't grumble for the green fee.

The strangest thing about it is there's a big hotel and spa there and I've genuinely never seen another golfer on the course!

Shot 89, so pleased with that with where my game is.

Thought I'd finally fixed the driver over the last few weeks, horrendous today. Reverted to my 4 iron driving iron off the tee, that's my secret weapon right now, nailing it about 210 yards.

This weather is messing with my head though, thought I'd thrown a dart into 1 green from bang on 150, 9 iron cleared the green. I can't be hitting a PW from 150, that's absurd.

Played Minehead links today.

Lovely course, didn't disgrace myself playing with two members.

Playing again Thursday

You say that's a "big mistake", in my opinion this isn't a mistake, this is a case of correct decision, bad outcome.

You can make the right decision and just hit a poor shot, that's golf. Don't let the outcome dictate how you view the decision to take on the shot. In my head that was the right thing to do, you had the perfect number, 100/100 you should be taking that shot on and not laying up.

I agree, however I think it depends on how that hole is laid out.

Personally, my hybrids/5w aren’t reliable enough to hit a green over water. I would play the same shot but I know I shouldn’t, especially if there’s no forgiveness over the back or to either side.

I’ve started to play a ‘driving iron’ (ping crossover) and short irons in. Rather than a driver and a wedge. Even if I take an extra shot to make the green, I’m usually in a better position to guarantee a 2 putt and much more likely to avoid penalty strokes off the tee.

It feels so boring but I guess that’s the life of a 20ish handicapper. lol

4 driving iron 210 and PW 150 is odd lol

I just got a 3 driving iron… picked it up 2nd hand and would’ve got the 4 instead if they had it but what a club.

Which one did you go for?

I've got the TaylorMade Stealth DHY 22 degrees.

Really struggled with consistency when I first got it, but it's the most reliable thing in the bag right now.

Nice. I went for the G400 Crossover, will buy the iCrossover to replace it I think but not a priority right now (bag wise).

The best thing about it is, all mishits just seem to fly low, meaning they still travel and seem to end up straight enough… unlike a mishit driver.

Had the makings of a great round yesterday, standing on the 8th tee 2 over par.

Cue a triple bogey 8 on the 8th and a quadruple bogey 8 on the 9th 🤢

Anyway- Come on Rory!

Never mind a career Grand Slam, we want a 2025 Grand Slam!

So much talk of Rory being clear favorite for the PGA and all the talk about him.

Scottie, Xander, Bryson and all the rest must be delighted all the spotlight is on him this week and they can fly under the radar.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Scottie finishes ahead of Rory this week.

And I also wouldn't be surprised if Rory has his standard +2 over start today with all eyes on him.

Don't get me wrong I'd dearly love Rory to win, but it's by no means a done deal.

Luke Donald might make a Captains Pick for the RC later this year 👀

Bradley having a decent start too. Could still play his way onto the US team with a strong showing this week and in the big points tournaments over the next few months

Has there ever been a player/captain?

Yes, way back in the day before the RC was commercialized but not in my lifetime.

If Bradley qualifies on merit then my guess is that he'll play and hand over the captaincy to Webb Simpson.

No way you can combine both roles in this day and age.

From the BBC:

In US PGA Championship history, there have never been more than four players representing England among the top 20 on the leaderboard at the conclusion of a round.

At the moment, six Englishman (Luke Donald, Matt Fitzpatrick, Aaron Rai, Harry Hall, Marco Penge and Tyrrell Hatton) are projected to finish among the top 20 today.

Be interesting to see how Marco Penge gets on this week. Qualified through the last 3 Asian Swing events rankings having won in China recently. Was banned for a few months for betting on golf and not long returned to the tour.

Only played in 2 majors before and MD'd both times at the Open.

Bit of a lad, hell of a baller. Hope he seizes his opportunity.
