I got told yesterday that Peter Allis during Masters commentary once said something like, ‘these greens are as quick as Cosby’s’ 😂

Is this true?

Not any more,  I believe around 20 years ago it was though. The greens were rapid for a couple of months each summer,  but were very inconsistent throughout the year and were rarely used during the winter months the greenkeeper preferring members play off temps.  More consistency now,  and we haven't played off temps at all for the last couple of years.

I don't really remember the greens but the hilly/sloping fairways turning my rare good tee shots into bad ones :(

Here here.

Started so well yesterday and then fell off a cliff.. par, birdie, birdie start.. level through 9 and then horrific back 9. Completely fell apart, 3 doubles, did have one birdie but other than that very poor back 9!

Tuesday again after work will be the next outing, time to right some wrongs!

I imagine your horrific back 9 would be better than my good 9! Thought id figured it all out the other day then back to shooting 112 today lol I've got a lot of improving to do.

Matt Fitzpatrick looks good for another PGA title - can he hold on?

One shot lead, two holes to play, and Scottie breathing down his neck. Squeaky bum time.

Advantage Fitz. Worst approach shot I've seen Scottie hit in ages.

It'd be sad to lose it if it's well liked and used.

Was the first golf course I ever played when I was growing up and I took my son there recently for his first round as it's very beginner friendly.  It was absolutely heaving and is a well used site and it's staggering they'd want to get rid of it to make room purely to meet some quota.  I take my kids to the pool/soft play at the bolted on leisure centre and you'd have be insane to introduce more traffic into that area as it's chaos (digress).

Golf has such a high entry price and it's one of the few council owned courses that is actually passable goes against all the things government spout about making sport accessible and getting people outdoors.

Was about -11 under my handicap on the 18th tee this morning

Stroke Index 18

Walk off with a 10

**** my life

Shot -3 my handicap last night in a medal

Played so nicely but still 3 putted 4 times 🥴

I was one shot off winning the whole comp- the 3 putt from 2feet from the flag for par on the 7th at my place gave me a sleepless night last night

Happily birdied the last after my 10 on Sunday 😂

That’s good going, it was tough up at Longcliffe yesterday!

Pin on 7 was in an evil spot and the greens are very slippery at the moment.

Yep, I was just off the green near the 10th tee in 2. Great chip back towards it with an 8 iron, finished the other side of the hole 2 feet away

3 putt

But yeah, I’m assuming the new irrigation system isn’t yet completely up and running. If it is, they want refunding 😂

I had a putt basically come to a stop about 6 inches above the hole and ended up having to hole a 10 footer up the hill for a par!

Greens are quick but not particularly true which makes for a difficult combo, especially when you leave yourself a 3/4 footer when you’ve inevitably raced the first putt past. Hopefully once we get a bit more growth the irrigation system will come into its own, as you say at the moment not sure I see the difference.

Had a harsh lip out for a 2 on 15 which stings even more now I’ve learnt that a 2 was worth £70 odd yesterday.

Yeah they weren’t very true were they

Ouch, hard luck on the 15th

I was bang in the middle of the green but still 3 putted again 🙃

Not played there for a few years but as a kid I lived up there for the 6 weeks of school holidays.

Mum and Dad would drop me off in the morning, group coaching, lunch and then 9 holes in the afternoon, absolutely fantastic days.

Always remember that I was clearly being a bit cocky in the group of kids I was with and I'd got a RAM 5 wood that I absolutely loved, could hit it well and nearly reach the hedges at the back. The pro who was teaching us, Clive Fromant bless him, saw me getting too big for my boots he walked over and said "let me have a go", he turned the club on its toe/upside down, went lefty and hit this peel fade that cleared the trees at the back of the range. It went MILES. I can remember it like it was yesterday and it sure knocked me down a peg or two!

Would be such a shame to see it go, a proper starter/affordable golf course and a great way to learn the game. Chris is an excellent bloke too.
