Not played there for a few years but as a kid I lived up there for the 6 weeks of school holidays.

Mum and Dad would drop me off in the morning, group coaching, lunch and then 9 holes in the afternoon, absolutely fantastic days.

Always remember that I was clearly being a bit cocky in the group of kids I was with and I'd got a RAM 5 wood that I absolutely loved, could hit it well and nearly reach the hedges at the back. The pro who was teaching us, Clive Fromant bless him, saw me getting too big for my boots he walked over and said "let me have a go", he turned the club on its toe/upside down, went lefty and hit this peel fade that cleared the trees at the back of the range. It went MILES. I can remember it like it was yesterday and it sure knocked me down a peg or two!

Would be such a shame to see it go, a proper starter/affordable golf course and a great way to learn the game. Chris is an excellent bloke too.

I have a similar story in my group coaching when I was a young teenager. I was the biggest hitter as I had quite a John Daly-esque over swing back then but was supple enough to control it.

I used to out hit all the other kids but still couldn't reach 250 yards to the back hedge. Coach steps up and smooths one straight over the back hedge without even trying. He didn't do it to put me in my place but it had the same effect.

Jim Furyk named US Captain for Adare Manor.

What a strange appointment after his team got battered in Paris.

The US Ryder Cup committee still learning nothing it seems.

Maybe no one else would take it?

Just shows what a shit show the US RC set up is if that's the case. It should be the most coverted and sought after role in golf not a poison challice.

Anyone else going for the ballot?  Having seen the prices it seems like one to lose.  That said, it'll be absolutely class

Who would you have chosen? It's not like they're flooded with good options. Tiger was Plan A and while that likely would have been a disaster, he obviously jacked it anyway. Phil's obviously out. A non-major winner like Matt Kuchar maybe - except Kuchar is reportedly widely disliked by his peers.

This is a major challenge for the US side. There's very little sense of camaraderie among American players and most of them are not especially well-liked by each other.

Like I say, it's a shit show. Great isn't it? :D

The fact they've gone back to a losing captain seems bizzare to me. I can't see why the likes of Snedeker, Cink, Couples, or Leonard weren't given a shot.

Or even go back to a winning captain like Zinger, DL3, or Stricker, would have made more sense.

I guess they see Furyk as a safe pair of hands but he's hardly inspiring.

It'd be sad to lose it if it's well liked and used.

Usually a busy 9 hole course, shame if it goes as it was one of the first I played. There's still talk of Blaby being sold for housing too which will really limit 9 hole courses around. The vultures that have their eyes on this land will get there own way eventually like they always do.

Got my new GPS today, I think this along with my new jumper is going to

make all the difference this year.

Is the GPS inside of the ball?

Lovely day for it today. I played some good stuff and probably came away with the worst score I could possibly have done given how I played. Silly game.

Brilliant better ball 57 from the Fitzpatrick bros in New Orleans.

A record breaking 30 under after 3 rounds and a 4 shot lead going into tomorrow.

From getting a birdie on the hardest hole to getting a 9 on a par 3. Just another day on the course for me today :)

A 9 on a par 3 is impressive :appl:

I eagled our par 5 ninth hole on Thursday, then parred the 10th which is stroke index 1, then holed my greenside bunker shot for birdie on the 11th.

Then double bogeyed the 12th, 13th and 14th

Yeah i was quite impressed myself :D at least I managed to laugh it off though, unlike the mate I play with who genuinely acts like a tired toddler if things dont go his way!

I used to get wound up back in the day but as I've got older and more mellow I don't let it affect me anymore.

I play with a bloke in his mid 30's who's off scratch and I've seen him shoot 68/69 on a few occasions. I've also seen him score 85/86 if he gets off to a poor start.

He's capable of birdieing every hole but if he starts with a bogey in the first few holes he get's the hump and pretty much gives up on his score.

I've seen many club golfers over the years with so much natural talent but mentally they're just not at the races.

Golf is a mental game!

I know the feeling. My new club has 3 par3, all of them very easy to double at least.

1. SI 18. Plays around 140 over a valley with a bunker at front and back with a green sloping front to back. Wind catches all high pitched shot. Miss at your peril.

2. Plays 220 from medal tees. Very difficult green, sloping back to front again.

3. 170-185, raised green, OB right, horrible rough and bunkers leading up to the green.

Any par is a win. Hcps gone up since changing home courses. Greens are rapid but roll true.

Matt Fitz feeling the pressure of securing a tour card for his brother - he’s had a dreadful few holes.

After his win in India there's still a decent chance Alex will finish top 10 in the Race to Dubai and secure his PGA card that way if they fvck this up.

I really hope they get it over the line. I think Matt will carry a lot of ‘guilt’ over this if they don’t.

Love tournaments when the 18th is a par 5 as it keeps so many options open down the stretch.
