It’s supposed to be class isn’t it?

Ive family down that way, and need to play it soon tied in with a visit to them

Yeah, it is really nice.

In absolute incredible condition too.

I'd definitely recommend playing it, but look out if they're doing any offers, because it's expensive.

Very slow pace of play too, a lot of society's play there.

I was on my own, so I expect to be held up, which is fine, but almost 5 hours is too long.

Last night I watched Bryson v Mickelson on BCD YouTube channel.

It made me think- Why can’t the Saudi’s introduce another field of golf? They’ve brought us LIV where they’ve made some nothing more good tour pros into multi millionaires, so why can’t they produce another?

They could call it DIV. Where 150 hackers are split into teams, going round travelling the worlds best courses and get paid millions in the meantime? I mean, who wants to see golfers go straight from tee, fairway, green and two putt all the time? It’s pretty boring.

Surely there’d be better YouTube content and many more views watching me top my drive into the ladies tee sign and have it ricochet OOB, to see me bomb my third shot straight down the fairway, to then see me thin my sand wedge 100 yards beyond the flag into the bushes behind?

Rick Shiels is playing The Pastures at Mickleover today. Teeing off at midday and can walk around for free if anyone fancies

He's done a video there before IIRC, trying to get a tour pro to break the course record/go under par.

Just been successful in the ballot for final day tickets at The Open at Royal Troon. First the Ryder Cup, now this 😂

I'll meet you in the beer tent at 10am

At Troon?

Just looked at digs around the area and the closest we can get is Glasgow. Not sure how fussed I am 😂

Yeah. I applied for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but just got Sunday, which is fine.

Not even looked at accommodation!

We'll probably go up for a few days, so might even stay east coast and get the train in on the Sunday.

That way, I can take my clubs and try to play somewhere like North Berwick, Dunbar or The Renaissance :D

I just need to break the news to the Mrs now...

Cracking finish to the St Jude last night.

Glover deserved it, Cantley decided to drive like me off the tee in the play-off!

Nice to have some British interest at the business end with Tommy and Rory too.

Looking forward to the rest of the FedEx series.

I've just paid for my ticket to The Open at Troon next year.

Booked a hotel about an hour away...it's got a curling rink in it lol

If anyone has got any recommendations for courses to play around the Stranraer area, please let me know.

I've had a quick look. Whilst none look as good as the east coast courses of North Berwick and Dunbar, there's some with spectacular views and very reasonably priced.

Dundonald? The place looks unbelievable

That looks spectacular!

A bit too far for me though, that's the other side of Troon from where I'm staying.

I'm south west Scotland in Stranraer.

There's a few places that are just 'normal' public courses that cost about £40 a round and look insane.

I guess I'm always swayed by the view on links courses.

Growing up in Leicester and now living in Northampton, it's not something I'm used to! We're as far away from a links as possible.

It suits my game though, when I top one off the fairway, it rolls about 170 yards on a coastal course and makes it look like I've played the Tiger stinger lol

The views on Links courses are unbelievable. I’m just not sure why golfers prefer them to say parkland. I mean, golfs hard enough without trying to learn how to draw or fade the ball into wind 😂

Couldn't agree more.

It's just a different challenge though.

It's like a totally different game.

I was having a conversation about it with a mate who's a big fisherman, he basically likened it to going from sitting by the side of a lake, trying to catch a few carp, to going out in the ocean trying to land a shark!

It's just a novelty for those of us that live in the middle of the country.

Woburn, Wentworth and The Belfry are better courses, but put me on a municipal links course and I love it.

And when you're watching The Open and the commentators say "the wind is really whipping up", you think, 'yeah, course it is'. Until you play somewhere like that, you don't have a clue.

I played up in Scotland last September, afterwards, we went for a walk on the beach, I was wearing shorts. It was that windy, the sand hitting your legs actually hurt lol

Best thing about links courses are very few fecking trees.

But...I have had to walk down a genuine set of wooden stairs to play out of a bunker.

Swings and roundabouts.

At our age we need all the help to get back out of them.

I've only been to The Open once before, think it was 2003 at Royal St George's.

Jon Daly was dead last, landed in a greenside bunker that deep that if I was on your shoulders, we still wouldn't see the pin.

He went down about 4 steps, fag in mouth, didn't set himself, just twatted it.

Landed within 6 inches lol

Best golf shot I've ever seen.

Well, until I saw @Izzy drop a 50ft putt and stride across the green like prime Ryder Cup Ian Poulter lol

Thanks mate.

Number 4 and 6 on that list are less than 10 minute drive away and cost under 40 quid.

I'd already seen them on a quick Google search.

I think the Stranraer is rated really highly with views across Loch Ryan.

Scotland is just full of incredible hidden gem golf courses.

Do you reckon if you live in St Andrews you plan trips to Leicester for a round?

"Hey, Dougal, there's a place called Enderby. It's where Next HQ is, there's a lovely 9 holer there" lol

Could double up Enderby with Royal Whetstone I guess to make the 600 plus round trip worthwhile 🤔
