Anyone done a major before? Going The Open next month at Royal Liverpool on the Friday, first time I’ve actually gone to watch. Wondering if anyone has before and has any tips on best way to go about it?

Gave my tickets away for it as I’ve got tickets for the Ryder Cup final day in Rome

Also looking for advice

You jammy bastard! I've been to two Ryder Cups in the past both at the Belfry (89 & 02) and watched McGinley sink the winning putt on 18 and jump in the water

The atmosphere on the first tee at a RC on the final day is like nothing I've ever experienced before - absolutely electric.

I don't know what advice to give you apart from soak it all in and try to find a decent vantage point. The truth is you see more on the TV but being there is very special.

You'll have an amazing time. Marco Simone GC looks the dogs bollocks too. Enjoy.

Tips:

Spend some time on the practice ground.

If you want to see the flight of the ball get right behind it. Easier said than done these days with the tees pushed to the boundaries of the property & the number of people allowed behind the ropes.

Wear hiking boots or a proper pair of golf shoes. Dry, shiny grass equally as slippy as the wet stuff.

Dress for the weather.

Consider taking your own food and drink - if you’re allowed. Expensive at the course and queues.

Binoculars or a scope.

If you fancy a break find a stand which will give you views of approach shots, the green and subsequent tee.

If you intend to follow a particular match and they are already on the course walk the course backwards for a few holes until you encounter them.
Did I say get behind the ball - this is the single most important tip.

Forgot to say ignore the tented village. It’s all R&A branded merchandise these days - vastly overpriced. Back in the day it was well worth a few hours browsing the latest clubs, golf books etc but since the R&A raised the rents the best bits have all been driven out.

I'm seriously contemplating an outdoor sim setup.

I have some new decking at the bottom of the garden which measures 12ft x 12ft. I put it there mainly for ease of maintenence rather than entertaining or sitting outside.

I noticed I now have plenty of room to swing a club. So.... golf net, foam matting with some artificial turf on top (plus hitting strip), a Garmin R10 launch monitor, and an ipad on a stand to see the shots/data.

Should cost around £700 and can easily be setup/taken down in about 15 mins if I wanted to put it away in winter.

Decisions, decisions.

If I had the space, I'd do that in a heart beat.

I imagine you won't regret it and it will improve your game.

Do it, do it, do it....

Canadian Open looking good for the Brits tonight,

Rai, Rory, Tommy, Hatton & Rose all up there.

Would love to see Fleetwood break his PGA duck.

Normally I'd root for Tommy, but of course, I'd love to see Nick Taylor win the Canadian Open :D

Nick feeling the pressure of a nation here.

Game well and truly on though.

Fleetwood making my slice look like a slight fade lol

Rooting for Tommy to break his PGA duck, but, from a romantic point of view, happy for a Canadian to win it too.
