Daggers Posted 30 January 2013 Share Posted 30 January 2013 Hmm, protesting modern football by buying tickets and cheering on team? I imagine this will shake the club to its core.
fleckneymike Posted 30 January 2013 Share Posted 30 January 2013 Modern football is so rubbish attendances have risen steadily as disgusted people across the land turn up to feel let down. Don't fight the tide, direct it.

1964FOX Posted 31 January 2013 Share Posted 31 January 2013 Don't fight the tide, direct it. I completely agree with this and that is why it is not a protest group. There are things about modern football that need addressing. Creating a group and identifying ways of doing that in a positive manner is just one thing we can do. Hmm being a positive group of passionate fans who hopefully might be able to interact with the clubs hierarchy (but only if we grow to sufficient numbers) might have a chance. Jackubu Posted 31 January 2013 Author Share Posted 31 January 2013 At the end of the day all we want to do is gather support and cheer on our team. The ones that go to most away games will realize our atmosphere has all but disappeared. We won't boycott and we won't boo the team. If you don't like the idea then don't get involved. Meanwhile we will be having a great laugh before possibly making a change which this generation hasn't got the guts to attempt.
indierich06 Posted 31 January 2013 Share Posted 31 January 2013 I completely agree with this and that is why it is not a protest group. There are things about modern football that need addressing. Creating a group and identifying ways of doing that in a positive manner is just one thing we can do. How exactly will going to matches and cheering your team change the state of modern football? Will that loosen of Sky's stranglehold on the game? Will that get rid of all the foreign owners who use football clubs as their playthings? Will that lower the wages of grossly, obscenely overpaid players? As a fan, or a supporters group, going to matches and cheering the team should be the bare minimum. Football has changed irrevocably - especially in this country. It is absolutely dominated by money, and not just trivial amounts of money, we're talking billions of pounds here. If you're holding the purse strings, you're the one making the decisions. That's why Sky moves any game they want to any day of the week, even if it means Newcastle fans travelling to Southampton, or Charlton travelling to Middlesbrough on a Tuesday night - they don't care about fans. The owners don't particularly care about the fans either - they come out with all the right platitudes about 'our great support' and our 'loyal supporters' but they don't give a shit who you are as long as you're going through the turnstile and paying them their money. They know at most clubs, they can increase the prices as much as they like and people will still pay to walk through those turnstiles every week. Fans are a complete afterthought to the football money-men, they do not give one solitary shit about us. And unless we stop going EN MASSE, and unless we get rid of our Sky subscriptions then things will never, ever change. And unfortunately, I can't ever see that happening. They're the footballing royalty, we're just the great unwashed.
