Manwell Pablo Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Am I the only one who thinks not going up in your first full season isn't a sackable offence then?
paulsherwood1 Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Yes the Sven that finished midtable. Not the Pearson who's in the play-off places, AGAIN. I think the issue is that we looked so good for automatic and have slipped down the play offs. It's a bit like leading 1-0 in the 93rd minute and the opposition equalise. You feel awful. However, as per Tuesday night when you are losing 1-0 and your team equalise in the 93rd minute you feel like you've just won the European cup! That's what it feels like for me. I appreciate the job the Np has done, but I do feel some resentment and disappointment in how we are going out with a whimper. It doesn't mean I don't support the team, it doesn't mean I'm not 100% behind the lads every game, but by me questioning the manager it doesn't make me any less of a fan! This is not about the mediocrity of the last ten years. Nor is it about when Mon was in charge. The HUGE difference now is that we have facilities and backing. We never had that. So of course the expectation is higher!!!! Are people saying that its ok for man city to be second and out of Europe at the first stage just because the last ten years have been average? No. Expectations have risen. The same is true at lcfc. Our owners have invested heavily, and they, and us have the right to expect more.
seenitall Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 'Am I the only one who thinks not going up in your first full season isn't a sackable offence then?' Depends if you bottled it last season
Kitchandro Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 As far as I'm aware, NP hasn't won the play offs yet? He had his part in losing us a play off semi with a ridiculous home set up/performance though! I'm not saying he has. It's not me who's trying to guess the future, I'm merely asking that he's given a chance to see out a season - a season in which we've improved significantly since the last season. If we finish 6th and go up at Wembley, he'll be a hero. There's still every chance of us going up.
MattyFromLE Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 'Am I the only one who thinks not going up in your first full season isn't a sackable offence then?' Depends if you bottled it last season HE didn't bottle it last season. Our team full of under performing, over paid nobody's did that.
Guppy Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Genius - I am very very angry (but not that angry) I think it would fair too assume between them they are on 2-3m a year. Do you genuinely believe they're ever going to justify that? Gallagher was purely an example of a player out of the picture and working in,disproving anyone who says Nige is stubborn/ falls out with every player who doesn't play each week. I realise he's not popular and probably doesn't justify his wage, which he got under Svens management?
Jace Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 We know it'll all over when Pearson says 'Only weak managers feel pressure'
seenitall Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 HE didn't bottle it last season. Our team full of under performing, over paid nobody's did that. He'd already had one transfer window and started to get them playing but then went to Millwall and fielded the wrong side - after that he was clueless.....bottled it
MattyFromLE Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 He'd already had one transfer window and started to get them playing but then went to Millwall and fielded the wrong side - after that he was clueless.....bottled it ...and who did he buy in that transfer window? Morgan and Marshall, right? So we still had nobodies like Mills, Beckford, Peltier and Bamba running round like headless chickens. Pearson's latest additions have been more than adequate on many occasions this season, even getting higher than Sven's bottlers.
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 He'd already had one transfer window and started to get them playing but then went to Millwall and fielded the wrong side - after that he was clueless.....bottled it Whats your definition of bottling it? Not achieving the reasults we required from the last 6 games of the season to make the play offs?

No. Expectations have risen. The same is true at lcfc. Our owners have invested heavily, and they, and us have the right to expect more. I pretty much agree with that, tbf. I am disappointed how things have turned out in the last month or so and I have criticised Pearson for it. But, we've still had a decent season thus far. Expectations have also risen because of the football we have played at times, because the way we have dispatched teams, even 'good' ones like Hull. How we've destroyed teams at times. Let's not forget Cardiff have had backing, Watford's team is unrecognisable to last season and we all know why that is. We have a thin squad this season as we've tried to balance the books a bit, I don't think it should be this thin but it's not the same situation as last season. Pearson has his faults but I have belief in him because of how hes managed us overall since he took over in 2008. I just think we shouldn't even be questioning his position as manager until the season is over. Then, it's fair o discuss it, based on how we have done. My confidence has been dented recently but I've not given up on promotion.
paulsherwood1 Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Whats your definition of bottling it? Not achieving the reasults we required from the last 6 games of the season to make the play offs? Or maybe winning 1 in 6 and losing the opportunity of automatic promotion? Why do people see the play offs as an achievement? They are a lottery that upto 6 games ago we looked well on course to avoid!

I don't recall MoN having to massively, massively reduce the wage bill - get rid of 30 players with more still to go and do all that whilst challenging at the top end of the table? Yes, Pearson's had the backing to bring some in, BUT each signing has had to be significantly better value than those they replaced Presumably with the guidance over resale value of those signings too because Morgan aside every signing is someone who will grow as a player and is yet to reach their best... and the lack of numbers as the manager has had to make things sustainable... at this, the biz end of the season in some people's opinion is hurting us. Wonder what would have happened if NP hadn't had to leave to the day after Asia Football Investments was formed to takeover the club, and he'd been here to blow all that money, rather than the one having to sweep up the mess... whilst getting shouted at for the mess. Anyway, phenomenal job to be challenging at the top end... whilst cutting the cloth (probably one of the key reasons he was targeted by the Thais)... With a bit of support we might even make it over the finish line, but looking at how unhappy our players are at the KP, I doubt it.
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Or maybe winning 1 in 6 and losing the opportunity of automatic promotion? Why do people see the play offs as an achievement? They are a lottery that upto 6 games ago we looked well on course to avoid! And who fashioned that opportunity?
MattyFromLE Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Or maybe winning 1 in 6 and losing the opportunity of automatic promotion? Why do people see the play offs as an achievement? They are a lottery that upto 6 games ago we looked well on course to avoid! Right, so there are 13 games for us left. What happens if Watford/Hull/Palace go on a similar 6 game blip, and we go on a winning streak again? Auto's are back on and Pearson's the man? Pffft. Long way to go still.
paulsherwood1 Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 And who fashioned that opportunity? Does it matter who fashioned it? I paid £1 to the girl in Asda for my lottery ticket but it still lost!
birdwith2beaksandnofriends Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Right, so there are 13 games for us left. What happens if Watford/Hull/Palace go on a similar 6 game blip, and we go on a winning streak again? Auto's are back on and Pearson's the man? Pffft. Long way to go still. All those teams suddenly losing all form while we suddenly turn it on? I want some of what you're drinking!
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Does it matter who fashioned it? I paid £1 to the girl in Asda for my lottery ticket but it still lost! Of course it does Your analogy is terrible.
Kitchandro Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Or maybe winning 1 in 6 and losing the opportunity of automatic promotion? Why do people see the play offs as an achievement? They are a lottery that upto 6 games ago we looked well on course to avoid! But he had a similar run in 09/10, when the play-offs was an achievement. He had a similar run in 08/09, and our form again picked up in time and we ahcieved our goal of promotion. We may have bottled it somewhat, but the season isnt over. There is still time to rectify the situation. Promotion is an achievement, it's the only achievement, whether we finish 1st or 6th that is the be all and end all.
MattyFromLE Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 All those teams suddenly losing all form while we suddenly turn it on? I want some of what you're drinking! Southern Comfort & Coke. FYI. Didn't we go unbeaten in January, then all of a sudden our form dip? Yep. It can happen, unfortunately.
Kitchandro Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Does it matter who fashioned it? I paid £1 to the girl in Asda for my lottery ticket but it still lost! Worst. Analogy. Ever.

With a bit of support we might even make it over the finish line, but looking at how unhappy our players are at the KP, I doubt it. Twaddle - if Pearson had done what he was brought in for last season and made the Premier League he would have been able to afford all those players and many more - if the owners wanted to finish mid table they could have kept Sven so we have to assume they removed him because they thought NP could do better - except they didn't want NP did they, they screwed up and we actually ended up with him - he then was totally ineffectual. So last season was a failure and this season he has blown hot and cold - I really hope he can turn it around and win the play off lottery but if not he will have failed four seasons in a row - aint good enough
birdwith2beaksandnofriends Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 So people still do that WORST. X. EVER. with a dot between each word? Is it 1996?
Number 6 Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Seems most people are disappointed by 5th largely because our position was so promising at the end of January. We should remember why things look so good then though, it was down to the management and players. Both sets have subsequently made mistakes, but this season could still be a huge success.

Finally, a rational contribution.
