MattyFromLE Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 I'd Thank him very much and get in a premier league manager straight away, and save the 10 games of torment at the start of the following season before the inevitable sacking. Typical FoxesTalk. Writing us off, before we have even got there. What ever happened to building? MoN didn't turn us into the team we were overnight. Our premier league success was down to him picking a solid base for his side and building on that. That took how many years? Why are so many people intent on us sacking ANOTHER manager? He's done better than the last 10 years worth of managers combined. Seriously, struggle to understand what more you want. We all want to be top but, it's a difficult league.
Number 6 Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Sacking him now would be shameful. If he misses playoffs then it becomes somewhat understandable. We could scrape 6th spot on the last day of the season and go up, in which case I'd argue that the season has been a great success.
Babylon Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 And how much time should he be afforded to sort a problem out that was apparent to the average fan 6 months ago? If we don't know all the circumstances it's difficult to say. Very good sources (John Percy) said we were after Trotter, a player many thought could add what we needed. If he was actively seeking a player that could help, but not able to get one he thought good enough, or at the right price then that's something the owners will know and take into consideration. With regards birdwiths comment about under achieving. Well I wanted top 6 this year as minimum and so far that's what we have been all year. If someone expected top 2 then yes I'm sure they think we are under performing. In my mind (Similar to what Col said previously) it was top 6 this year and push on next year in all probability.
birdwith2beaksandnofriends Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 So if we finished 5th, and went up through the play-offs...you'd count that as under-achieving? SPIN SPIN SPIN. I said BEING 5TH IN THE LEAGUE with our level of spending etc etc etc is underachieving. Many many fans and bookies, pundits alike had us nailed on for top 2. You can accept mediocrity and underachievement if you like. I'll make my own mind up. Thanks. it was top 6 this year and push on next year in all probability. Seriously? The Thais want it this year. NFP even alluded to it in quite a few interviews.
Babylon Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Many many fans and bookies, pundits alike had us nailed on for top 2. Which means nothing really as we found out under Sven.
birdwith2beaksandnofriends Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Which means nothing really as we found out under Sven. Who you thought massively underachieved and should have been sacked? That Sven?

I don't for one minute think that we didn't land players that he desperately wanted to sort the problem - the difference between a good manager and an average one is the other plans as back up. For all his faults do you think Harry would have pointed at not signing someone 6 months ago as a reason for failure?? He'd have simply signed someone else or adapted the style of his current players. I hope he gets til the end of the season as i can't see the point in getting rid now - but i think that the owners wanted top 2 and agreed with NP that was the target - He seemed to make that very clear at the start of the season.
Bagworthblue Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 For me, we lack a bit of experience - It's fine margins at the moment. Some days the ball goes inside the post, some days it goes outside the post hence some days we win and some days we lose. We never get battered! but young players either panic or their heads go down when the ball goes the wrong side of the post too often or when the opposition score with limited chances The last time we hit the top 2, we went on a bad run - too many balls went wrong side of the post. Same this time and the season end is looming applying greater pressure on the younger players Many of the lads are young and learning their game. They will arguably perform better chasing than staying. Problem is the pressure of staying in the top 2 has now moved to staying in the play-off places. Wood is only 21 - lots of pressure on him - Pearson has on a few occasions tried to ask people not to put too much pressure on him. Drinky / Marshall / Knocky / DeLaet all young lads and 3 play in midfield - add Kane to the list If you take away the pressure or add just a little experience to the midfield, the ball may creep inside the post a bit more and make the difference between the team on who should win on paper and a team that usually makes it happen on the pitch. Take Leeds - if just 2 1 of the shots were a few inches left right up or down, we would have won 2-1 and everyone would have said how we won without playing to our best or maybe would have remembered the game in a different way and said we played well. A bit of confidence can make those fine margins wider. The fans can help my getting behind the lads - could make all the difference - Pressure on Pearson may just add to the pressure on the younger players. sacking him now - big mistake
MattyFromLE Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 SPIN SPIN SPIN. I said BEING 5TH IN THE LEAGUE with our level of spending etc etc etc is underachieving. If 5th is underachieving, and we finish 5th and get promoted through the play-offs...then we have finished 5TH WHEN WE CURRENTLY ARE, AND "underachieving." My god...
5waller5 Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 NO. You said that our current postion is underachieving. So, why does it matter if its now or the end of the season? It's still underachieving it's just winning the get out of jail free card that is the play offs.
birdwith2beaksandnofriends Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 NO. You said that our current postion is underachieving. So, why does it matter if its now or the end of the season? If 5th is underachieving, and we finish 5th and get promoted through the play-offs...then we have finished 5TH WHEN WE CURRENTLY ARE, AND "underachieving." My god... Because I'm talking about now. You're throwing in a) us making the play offs and b) the 1/4 chance we win them. You can't offer the chance something might happen as evidence someone is doing a good job. We might win the FA cup next season? Does that mean we can't sack our manager?
Babylon Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Who you thought massively underachieved and should have been sacked? That Sven? Sven who was sacked when we were 13th yes, we aren't 13th though. I even said at the time Sven should have got longer as 13 games with a bunch of new players isn't enough, but we had clearly regressed from the previous season. This year we have improved on the previous season.
TrentFox Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 This is what makes FT great .... heated discussions about things that haven't happened ! I don't think they will sack him yet, (which with my track-record of predictions means he's probably clearing his desk right now), but if you look at it from the owners perspective, think it's interesting. They could easily perceive it as a change now and the new man would still, probably, get into the play-offs. Would he then, with 11 matches or so under his belt, have a better chance of negoiaiting a way through them than NP ?? Who knows. But if they've got someone in mind, a loss on Saturday would be a potential opportunity for them to pull the trigger - regardless of what any of us may feel.
birdwith2beaksandnofriends Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 NANANANANANANANA BADGER BADGER FACE, BADGER FACE, HE'S GOT A BADGER'S FACE
MattyFromLE Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 It's still underachieving it's just winning the get out of jail free card that is the play offs. Funniest thing I have EVER read. If promotion is the aim, surely getting promoted through the play offs in 5th position is achieving our goal? There as some outrageously irrational people on this forum, and worryingly so.
Fox in the North Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 I'd Thank him very much and get in a premier league manager straight away, and save the 10 games of torment at the start of the following season before the inevitable sacking. Just curious who you think would come to 'save' us when you talk of a premier league manager?
birdwith2beaksandnofriends Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Funniest thing I have EVER read. If promotion is the aim, surely getting promoted through the play offs in 5th position is achieving our goal? There as some outrageously irrational people on this forum, and worryingly so. But we haven't been promoted through the play offs. We are 5th. Don't go counting your chickens. We might not even make the playoffs!
MattyFromLE Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 But we haven't been promoted through the play offs. We are 5th. Don't go counting your chickens. We might not even make the playoffs! ...and if we don't then yes, we have underachieved.
Fox in the North Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 ...and if we don't then yes, we have underachieved. But in the meantime we get behind the team and support them for the final round of games.
TrentFox Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 But in the meantime we get behind the team and support them for the final round of games. Was that a Freudian slip, Top !??
MattyFromLE Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 But in the meantime we get behind the team and support them for the final round of games. Exactly. We all want the same thing, we all wanna win every game 6-0 but it's a tough league! Some of the people on this forum baffle me, but i'd happily stand next to them and support the lads properly for the next 13 games. Then you can start your mongfest of how you were right and we were all wrong for thinking long term stability is key for a club that has had a patchy last 10 years.
birdwith2beaksandnofriends Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 ...and if we don't then yes, we have underachieved. So you'd agree then that there is a 1/4 chance of this season being a success and 3/4 of it not. Fair enough. I think we can both agree that. And with the spending, the time NP has had, the backing etc etc, that for me is not good enough. For some, mediocrity is acceptable, for me, it is not. Not a personal attack, just a difference in the standards we set for ourselves and expect from others. You have it right in many ways, since I doubt you ever face disappointment in life. Expect very little, get very little. Satisfied. You might be on to something. Its the triers, dreamers etc like me who inevitably face disappointment and are let down by others.
Corky Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 You Vill enjoy ze fussball at Leicester City if Herr babylon says so - resistance is futile Do you think the football at home this season has been dull? I could understand not going to away games but at home we've been great to watch mostly.
z-layrex Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 Pearson is too good for us tbh. If we finish mid table we will be getting exactly what we deserve.
birdwith2beaksandnofriends Posted 8 March 2013 Posted 8 March 2013 I can't put my finger on exactly what, but I just think NP has sapped something from this club. He is openly anti-criticism whether it be from paying customers, journalists etc, is dismissive of almost anyone we witness him speaking with. Its no wonder he falls out with players. All of this is forgiveable when you're winning games - and even losing games is forgiveable is people can see what is being built towards or you are genuinely likeable. NP's problem is that he's quite dislikeable. Once the results aren't going his way, what else has he got?
