Pearson In/Out

Really, he's currently screwing up his 3rd attempt at promotion, may as well claim that if we'd kept Sousa we'd be in the Champions League.

Because if he's here for a while yet, there's no point in bleating and speculating about sacking him.

Agreed except it's his fourth attempt in as many years - not his fault though apparently, just unlucky, not been given enough time, money, help, nice players, supportive crowd, had to inherit crap teams which don't really get better just cheaper and these good players keep going crap on him etc etc - aaahhhh

Lots of bleating on his behalf though I guess

Not from me, i couldn't give a s**t if he stays or goes he's not one of my mates, just someone who works for the club i support, but while he's here i just don't think there's any point in calling for him to be sacked because its just negative. If the owners want to get rid they will do and none of us fans have any say in the matter.

Owners can be swayed by fans thinking though.

Attendances next season will go a long way towards us making FFP, a new exciting manager could add extra bums on seats, the thought of another season of missing out again while playing default hoofball will turn fans away.

We'll see what happens between now and the end of the season I suppose.

If he's not gone after the Leeds/SheffWed/Derby performances then will he be going? People who claimed to be ITK said he was out if we didn't beat SheffWed, papers reported on that and he's still here so surely he's staying.

There are many reasons people may not go. Poor value for season ticket holders with matchday tickets getting deals & offers. Kickoffs being moved. Pricing itself is out of sync with many fan's situations too.

A return to how the bulk of the season has gone with a return to free-flowing, fast, attacking football that saw us reach the auto positions scoring the most goals & conceding the least in the division in the process should get bums on seats, but any continuation of the Derby rubbish and he'll be gone anyway.

So anyone who thinks that sacking the manager is a bad idea while we're in the playoffs after a bit of a poor run isn't 'sensible'?

He's made a bit of a hash of things recently, but there would be nothing remotely 'sensible' about sacking him with just 8 games to go. If we don't get promoted I'm sure the Thais will consider his position and rightly so. Personally, I'd stick with him even if we don't get promoted, purely because I don't think there are many managers out there that would want to come here, or who would be significantly better than Pearson.

I've seen Adkins' name banded about, as well as Di Matteo and Di Canio... Well for me, Adkins is very overrated and is quite a similar manager to Pearson anyway. If you want diferent tactics then you won't want this guy because he plays 4-4-2 99% of the time as well. Yes, he managed to get a very good Southampton side promoted (after Pardew laid the foundations and did all the hard work for him) but he struggled severely in the Premier League.

As for Di Matteo, well that's just a non-starter. Why would any manager with a Champions League trophy to his name drop down into the Championship? It would be a huge step back for him, we'd have to pay a fortune in wages to get him and we wouldn't be able to offer much in the form of a transfer kitty either.

Di Canio - unproven in this league and too unpredicatable. I'm sure people would 'enjoy' his crazy rants and constant fallouts with players - it would certainly make a change from dour Pearson, but do we really want that kind of manager at a club which is crying out for stability?

Who else is there? Seriously, what manager would want to come to a club where the fans are crying out for their manager to be sacked on the back of one poor run in the club's best season for ten years? I think Nigel Pearson has severe limitations, I think people would be right to question his future here if we don't get promoted this season, but Pearson also has a lot of strengths too - with recruitment right at the top of the list, which is important with the advent of FFP. So on the balance of things, I'd keep him purely because I think his strengths outweigh his weaknesses and will be particularly valuable in the coming seasons where we need to recruit quality players for sensible fees and wages and I don't think there is anyone on the market who would come to us and do a significantly better job.

Thats all fair enough but i just dont think he will ever get us promoted from what i have seen this and last season. He has too many faults.

That's true, but i can't help thinking that Pearson will be here for a lot longer than some might think. If he's any good at negotiating his future when we asked him back, he would have laid down his terms and that probably meant he wanted a number of years to build and progress with young squad. Either that or he's a thick c**t who said yeah i'll come back if you pay me enough money.

Just a general comment: Why is our season being viewed as a kind of semi-disaster? We are 6th you know?

Disappointing as it has been recently it's not as if we've totally collapsed and we retain a good chance of finishing in the POs. Until we fall out of the top six I'd appreciate it if people didn't keep suggesting we've somehow failed this season. We have not.

It's certainly not a disaster, but we are all disappointed that we've been higher than this, capable of good runs of form and producing more exciting football than we've shown in recent weeks.

There was a real opportunity to take 2nd (and maybe even 1st with a storming run) and we've lost it, through our own faults.

Berner giving his opinion

Leicester City must show faith in manager Nigel Pearson, says Bruno Berner

Wednesday, March 20, 2013Leicester MercuryFollow

Former Leicester City favourite Bruno Berner has urged his old club to hold their nerve and stick with manager Nigel Pearson.

The former Switzerland international said Pearson has laid the foundation for long-term success this season.

Eye on the future: Bruno Berner is backing Nigel Pearson to bring success to City

And Berner, who made more than 100 appearances for City between September 2008 and July 2011 before retiring to move into coaching, believes that even if Pearson's men do not get promoted this season, the club must not make rash changes.

City's promotion push has wobbled recently with just one win from their last eight league games, but Berner said it would be counter-productive to panic and make changes.

"What would be the benefit of replacing him now," said Berner, who has been appointed under-18s head coach and assistant head of the academy at Zurich FC. "I don't see the benefit at all.

"The club would have to start all over again and, in the past, Leicester have made too many changes. Now, finally, they have found someone who has been able to build a fantastic foundation.

"I am watching everything from afar but I can feel the desperation to go up this season.

"There are huge demands from everyone. Desperation leads to too much nervousness if everything is not going completely your way.

"Then the whole environment becomes too nervous and too many people lose their focus on the most important things, the daily hard work.

"Then the speculation starts, and that doesn't help.

"It is vital he gets the support of the owners and the supporters. That is crucial.

"But Leicester are still successful. They are in the play-off places and in with a chance of promotion.

"So far it has been a very good season when you look at where they have been in the last two seasons.

"If they go up, then fantastic. But if they don't, they have to carry on because they now have a platform to build upon.

"But people are so desperate to go up this season and that could be a possible reason for failure if all the expectation goes into this season. I think that is wrong.

"It can take a long time to build a good foundation. Leicester have that now and the worst thing you can do is throw it all away just because of a few defeats in the last few weeks."

Berner believes it is time for a few of the players to step up to the plate, as several did in the 2009-10 season when City embarked on a great winning run at the end of the campaign to break into the play-offs.

"You need two or three players to step up and that sends out signals to the team that you can handle the pressure," he said.

"You have to enjoy the pressure. Nigel always said that, because if you want to be successful there will be pressure all the time.

"They just need two or three players to lead the team in the right direction."

Berner added: "I really hope people don't get too nervous and make the wrong decisions just because of a few defeats during the past couple of weeks."

Love that man. He's spot on too, straight from the mouth of a player who's side that made the play-offs went through a sticky patch in March, ironically losing to a poor Derby side that month too.

Well said That man Bruno Berner!!:) get off Pearson's back ffs just because we're on a bad run, he's done nothing but good for our club throughout the seasons we've had him & even this his lowest point it seems we r still in 6th, we need to help the lads not boo them, lets raise the volume and back them!! (Even if we don't go up we ARE BUILDING!!)

They haven't made that decision yet so Bruno can be happy - interested to see what a few more defeats between now and the end of the season would generate opinion wise?

I think it would be very tough for NP & people who are fed up with our constant state of transition that's leading nowhere... if the defeats were to keep coming, particularly if there's a lack of professionalism & effort like at Derby
