How much you talking?

Flights out there (one way) were £770, we've booked 31 nights out of 36 required for accommodation which comes to just over £900, three internal flights come to just over £300, tickets we've applied for the cheapest category which is around £70 per match I think... in total we're all budgeting £4000 - £4500 for the whole tournament.

Fair play. Just the beer money to add to that!

You don't need me to tell you its a once in a lifetime holiday.

How do those flight prices compare to if you wanted to fly out there say next week or outside of the tournament?

Yeah, we're all 24 as well so it's a good time for us to be able to enjoy it to the max. We're flying into Fortaleza in the very north of Brazil which I think made it a bit more expensive. I reckon were you to fly to Rio outside of the tournament you could probably do so for £500ish if you picked the right date and flight.

Some chaps i know fly to a country who didn't qualify for the tourny and then fly from there, works out cheaper sometimes.

I desperately want to go to france for the duration in 2016 but the missis is having none of it. She's a twat though because I've told her I'll just fly to each individual game which will cost a lot more than having a campervan and having her with me. After 6 years she still doesn't realise that if I decide I'm doing something she wont stop me.

lol

Can see myself getting the bug and wanting to go to France as well but doubt I'd be able to do the whole tournament so might just have to be one or two games!

Fantastic stuff, sounds like the holiday of a lifetime.

I went to South America end of last year, mostly in Chile & Peru but a couple of days in Sao Paulo. We were backpacking but hostel accommodation in SA is relatively cheap and clean, choices of dorms, twin & double rooms available in most places. www.hostelworld.com is a very useful site for cheap accomodation. Flights were about £900 return London to Santiago via Sao Paulo. Chile, Argentina, Brazil have decent long distance coach networks as well as an alternative to flights (the ones in Chile put National Express to shame, fantastic service). Living costs were a bit pricey but thats to be expected with a world cup on the way.

Yeah already been travelling in Central and South America so know what to expect outside of the tournament country and thankfully it will be A LOT cheaper!

I'm planning on travelling afterwards and going to try and do some of the countries that I haven't done before (Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Columbia and Venezuela). Have you got any tips for Chile? Got a friend who lived there for a year and it's probably the one I'm looking forward to most from what I've heard!

Chile was great, really enjoyed it but the 3 and a bit weeks we were there was nowhere near enough time to see the country. We landed in Santiago, then headed south by coach, stopping off in various places. Didn't get to go to Patagonia, just not enough time. Lots of people we met seemed to arrive in Santiago then fly to the top or bottom of the country then go overland. Santiago wasn't that cheap really, but is a great city. Plenty of nightlife in the Bella Vista area. We only went south from Santiago but can recommend Santa Cruz, Valdivia, Valparaiso and Chiloe Island (gateway to Patagonia). Plenty of opportunity to get into the Andes as well. Flights to the Falklands & Easter Island were very expensive so had to pass them by.

In Sao Paulo it absolutely pi$$ed it down the whole time, loads of building work going on for the WC, new airport terminals and the like. Definitely would like to see more of Brazil.

Jordan 1 Uzbekistan 1 at half-time in the Asian Play-Off 1st leg...

Would like to see the winner reach the finals, as I like to see a few new names make it. However, I suspect that the winner of this will lose to the 5th place South American team in the final play-off.

Bosnia are looking good to make a debut appearance (if you don't count their years in Yugoslavia), maybe 1 or 2 new names from Africa, Panama have a chance (maybe via the play-off...v. New Zealand, I assume?).

Above all, delighted to see that Colombia look like they're going to be in Brazil as a real force. I loved the Colombians as a people when I went there: wonderfully generous, friendly, extrovert people, if a little bonkers at times...

The Colombian 1994 team is still my favourite International team of all time, the untouchables. Have a side now worthy of filling their shoes as well.

Can't agree with you on Jordan or Uzbek mind, watched them both having bet on them and they are not worthy of being in it. The fifth place COMMEBOL (could still be Uruguay as well and surely you wouldn't sacrifice them for these?!) should smash them to pieces and I hope they do.

You certainly have a point - and I wouldn't want the finals to be filled with sub-standard new names; it just gets a bit boring seeing all the same old countries every time. I've never seen Uzbekistan or Jordan play, but likewise would expect either to lose to the 5th place South American team, Uruguay or whoever....probably more chance of Panama finishing 4th in CONCACAF & beating New Zealand in the play-off (I think that's who they'd play)

I would make Panama favourites to beat New Zealand Island think. I watched the white caps in a bar after the cricket in Auckland in March and they were dreadful. Scored in the last minute to beat the Soloman Islands.

I go the other way, would happily shave a place off Asia and Africa for another couple from SA or Europe, new sides are fine but I don't enjoy watching Saudi and Togo getting tonked 5-0 8-0...

Anyone on here applied for tickets and been successful?

Out of the four of us that applied three of us were successful in getting tickets and we've got tickets to 4 group games but none of the knock-outs.

Nice. What you doing with accommodation?

Aye I've got four group games too. Salvador (13/6) followed by Recife (14/6) then Natal (16/6) and Porto Alegre (18/6).

Going to stay for another week and a half after though to see Rio etc. Booked outbound flight to Salvador last night (via Lisbon, 11/6).

Mixture of hotels/hostels/apartments really but we've got 31 out of 36 nights that we're in Brazil already booked so we've done quite well. We planned early and are pretty much at the point now of just trying to get a few more tickets and saving our spending money.

We've got:

Match 7 (Fortaleza) 17/06

Match 22 (Natal) 19/06

Match 39 (Natal) 24/06

Match 45 (Recife) 26/06

Seems that tickets for some of the group games might not have been too hard to come by.

How much did you get your flight for?

Just to warn you, accommodation in Recife looks scarce in terms of budget options. Lots of hotels but not many hostels etc.

Judging by the difficulty I had with the first come, first served ballot, today is the day that everyone decided they wanted to go to the World Cup...

Very long shot but if anyone on here knows of any way that I can get 2 tickets for match 59 (the Quarter-Final in Salvador) then they shall be rewarded handsomely! It's the only game that my dad is there for so really want him to be able to see a live match. At the age of 58 it will probably be his last chance to do so at a World Cup!

Fifa are going to be charging £25 to send tickets out to countries other than Brazil.

You can just collect them in host cities though. Which, when you consider the possibility of having them stolen in hotels/hostels or lost, makes sense.

Got my confirmation email through last week, looks like i'm off too!

Applied for a couple of tickets for to follow Iran - seems like a smart move as not many people will applied for them...

Have all 3 group games, then following the winner of the group into the last 16, the winner in the quarters, the winner in the semis and bloody final tickets!!! Still buzzing from it. Just can't wait for the draw to see who we will be watching!

That's a cunning ploy! Are you sure that your tickets at the knock-out stage aren't dependent on Iran progressing, or did you order them separately?

Sadly, looks like I'm bottling out of going to Brazil 2014. Couldn't justify the financial outlay, even assuming that I could have got it together.....France 2016 and a trip to Brazil some other time, then!

I trust that you and others attending Brazil 2014 will send regular posts to make us all jealous!
