The Year Of The Fox Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 I know it's still early, but me and a couple of mates have decided we're going ot try and go. Going to be pricey but it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. We'll be 19/20 at the time too so a good age to go with the lads. None of us have ever been to a tournament before so wondering if anybody had any advice with tickets, travel, accomodation etc? Just hope England get there! If you want half a chance of guaranteeing yourself tournament tickets join www.thefa.com/englandfansYou want the gold membership. Then proceed to as many home and away games as possible to build your caps up. I don't think you qualify for tournament tickets unless you've been to an away game during that qualifying period. Once you've been away once you won't actually need that many caps to get tickets I don't think. 10-15 maybe for the group games?
Kitchandro Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 We can't have a World Cup without Mexico. Also looks like Paraguay and Chile will not make it which I'm disappointed about.
Guest MattP Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 We can't have a World Cup without Mexico. Also looks like Paraguay and Chile will not make it which I'm disappointed about. Paraguay's campaign has been a disaster, I still thought they would pull it round but going down 2-0 at home to Venezuela is unacceptable. Chile will still make it, sat in fourth and their last three home games are Bolivia, Ecaudor and Venezuela. 7 points should be enough for 5th at worse. Colombia are the exciting team from South America to watch next year, Jamie Rodriguez, Falcao, Yepes, Guarin and Martinez, best side they have had since the untouchables.

Oh right, maybe I was thinking of Uruguay not Chile? Or maybe I've just got it well round my neck. I love watching Chile at the World Cup, one of my abiding memories of France 98 was them with quality players like Salas, and they were an entertaining team in 2010 as well. In fact I just like the way most South American teams play, they're full of flair and characters. I get fed up with everyone bumming Brazil though. Will be good to see Colombia back, they're certainly not short of World Cup drama.

Manwell Pablo Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 I'm more worried about us getting there or not never mind Paraguay and Mexico.
Guest MattP Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 I'm more worried about us getting there or not never mind Paraguay and Mexico. It shows my distain for the national team that I actually couldn't even give a shit if they did or didn't anymore. If you had told me I would feel like that ten years ago........ The World Cup I enjoyed the most was USA 94 so I know I'll love it whatever happens.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 I agree with MattP. I don't give a fook about England anymore. Don't really watch them anymore. I still like them to qualify though, just for them over dramatic moments. Do you back him to score ? Yes or no? Yes Ohhhhh he's missed it !!! Gareth Southgate, the whole of England is with you ..... Its saved !!! It's saved !!!

I don't care as much, it's impossible not to care at all for me but I can fully understand why some people don't. It's harder to enjoy it if we aren't there. Especially if it turns out to be a shit tournament which I can see this one being. Ridiculous heat and bang average teams aren't a great combination.
Kitchandro Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 I don't really care about England either, but I will take more interest in our games at major tournaments that ones like Ghana v Serbia for example. On the other hand, one of the best tournaments I've ever seen was Euro 2008. In fact I'd go as far as to say England decrease the entertainment value in terms of the actual football, we play some of the ugliest stuff out there. I'd like us to qualify but once the tournament comes around I don't care how we do and I know I'll be really excited anyway. The last World Cup was a bit disappointing but I'm hoping this one, with it being in a proper footballing nation, will be better. If it's more like 1998 or 2006 I'll be happy.
purpleronnie Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 Its a strange one, I always want England to win but I enjoy major tournaments when we're not in them.
Fox92 Posted 5 June 2013 Posted 5 June 2013 I was having a conversation the other day. Two of us (that's me, obviously a Leicester fan and then one of my flatmates who's a Hull fan) said we'd rather see our teams perform better in the league/cups than England at tournaments (for example, I'd rather see Leicester win the FA Cup than see England win the World Cup), but my other flatmate said we were both a disgrace. But, I would rather see Leicester do well. Obviously I support England whenever required, but I have more passion when watching Leicester.

Ask your flatmate if he'd really smile watching the likes of Terry, Cole and Rooney lifting the World Cup.

EnderbyFox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 The official Brazil World Cup website has been hacked to show exactly what is happening in Brazil right now, not sure how long the video will be on for! http://copaemcuiaba.com.br/
MC Prussian Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Hundreds of thousands of Brazilians are protesting against the World Cup, the biggest demonstrations since the end of the military dictatorship in 1985. It is estimated that in Rio alone, 65'000 people alone hit the streets. The main debate circles around the massive costs for hosting the tournament as well as the costs for hosting the Olympic Games in 2016. There were also outcries surrounding corruption, criminality, high taxes and the state of public institutions such as schools and hospitals. The initial trigger was the decision by the city of Sao Paolo to raise ticket prices for public transportation by less than ten cents.
Manwell Pablo Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 the heat shouldn't be an issue as it'll be their winter They're on the Tropic they barely have any seasonal temperature difference.

Well if they don't want it I know plenty of country's who would be more than happy to host it
21st Century Fox Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Well if they don't want it I know plenty of country's who would be more than happy to host it What ungrateful shits. Bulldozing homes, passing the financial burden, corruption and getting regularly tear-gased is a small price to pay for Sepp Blatter's circus.
purpleronnie Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 Well done Ozzies..on the way to Brasil yep it was a tough campaign but they managed it.
Corky Posted 18 June 2013 Posted 18 June 2013 I'd rather Leicester won a league match than England won the World Cup, what does that make me? I reckon a lot of it is down to attendance at matches. I've been to plenty of Leicester matches, shared the joy and pain, highs and lows. I've been to a couple of England games when I was much younger so it just doesn't feel the same, I don't wake up and travel to the game, get the anticipation. I think people who want their clubs to perform better than their country base it on being part of the club, possibly also due to the tribal nature of supporting a club compared to a country, in that any success the club has is shared by fewer people instead of a whole nation. It would be great if England entertained at finals and even won something, but like you, Leicester success comes first in a choice scenario.
