And since we don't have scientific polling to give us an accurate feeling of whether or not most Native Americans oppose or support the Washington NFL franchise being called the "Redskins," I'll just have to use the evidence of prominent Native American groups protesting against "Redskins" for years, along with the overwhelming trend during that time among schools and universities with Native American-themed mascots to change their nicknames as evidence that the "Redskins" nickname and the practice of using similar nicknames is at worst offensive, and at best gauche. ESPN has picked up this ball and run with it, and yes I will concede that this matter is being overblown because Native Americans represent perhaps 1% of the USA's population. That said, anybody can have an opinion on whether something is right or wrong. In this case, while "redskin" isn't the worst word in the world, I think most people can agree that the term is pejorative. How about this: go up to a group of Native Americans and call them "redskins." THEY might or might not be offended, but why don't you find out for yourself?

In itself I don't care whether they change it or not (as long as they replace my RG3 jersey with the new 1, but if Roger Goddell gave a shit he'd force them to, it would cost the team millions to do it so they never will unless it relocated but it never would
