I've honestly never even heard it used as a insult. And as you can imagine, I'm the sort of man that's used most and heard them all.

Then again I've only ever met a couple of Native Indians and they seemed to find me taking a piss near their reservation more offensive than anything I could have called them.

When you say "near"...

100 yards give or take, I was actually a bit scared to be honest, all just stared at me. Gave them a wave but just a stern stare back. Quite an eery place the Grand Canyon.

On a scale of like, beaneater to n*gger (with kike and gook somewhere in between) just how offensive IS redskin considered? Is it not so dated a term it's practically inoffensive or am I very backwards?

Yeah, "Redskin" is one of those old people racial slurs, like "Sambo."

BTW, http://www.theonion.com/articles/redskins-kike-owner-refuses-to-change-teams-offens,34292/

I think the Redskins can have their cake and eat it, too, if they kept their name but just changed their logo to something like this:

God damn injuns. Can't be changing our name.

IT'S TRADISHUN!!

PC GONE MAD!

its not the native americans that want it changed its White, Black and Hispanic "right on" PC brigaders.

I hate it when people act offended on someone else's behalf

I got asked to change the name of my fantasy league team once by ESPN and that was only the Alabama Shoeshiners.

Glenfield Gravediggers is fine though as American's don't get rhyming slang.

I hate it when "anti-PC brigaders" speak on someone else's behalf.

Native Americans have been protesting against the Redskins' nickname for decades.

a small section have, there are several High Schools in america, that have the same nickname with over 60% native american student numbers that fiercely defend the nickname, it is by no means a unanimous thing and as said, if Redskins goes, so do Braves, Indians, Chiefs & any others I've missed.

The people protesting in the media are making a big deal because its in DC

There's a big difference between "Chiefs" and "Redskins."

To you yes but they are both race based terms, 1 goes they all have to

So you don't see any difference whatsoever between those terms? None?

You seem to ignore the fact that neither of us are affected by them so our POV doesn't matter zzz THEY might or might not.

If a majority of the Native American population wants it changed, there is no evidence that it's the case, fine until then media types are just trying to look good

Right, and from what I gather, this is a big deal for lots of Native Americans. And since we don't have scientific polling to give us an accurate feeling of whether or not most Native Americans oppose or support the Washington NFL franchise being called the "Redskins," I'll just have to use the evidence of prominent Native American groups protesting against "Redskins" for years, along with the overwhelming trend during that time among schools and universities with Native American-themed mascots to change their nicknames as evidence that the "Redskins" nickname and the practice of using similar nicknames is at worst offensive, and at best gauche.

ESPN has picked up this ball and run with it, and yes I will concede that this matter is being overblown because Native Americans represent perhaps 1% of the USA's population. That said, anybody can have an opinion on whether something is right or wrong. In this case, while "redskin" isn't the worst word in the world, I think most people can agree that the term is pejorative. How about this: go up to a group of Native Americans and call them "redskins." THEY might or might not be offended, but why don't you find out for yourself?

There is a huge debate on just how many natives are actually offended, apart from a small politically and financially motivated group.

In itself I don't care whether they change it or not (as long as they replace my RG3 jersey with the new 1, but if Roger Goddell gave a shit he'd force them to, it would cost the team millions to do it so they never will unless it relocated but it never would

If we change the name can the white man have their casinos back?

Thank feck for a bye week for the Bears. Gives us time to prepare for 3 games (at least) without Cutler and 5 without Briggs.

Luckily McCown looks solid enough to step in.

Cutler faked his injury because he's terrified of potentially facing Clay Matthews again next week!

Nice spread of teams there. Not a shock that the Raiders are one of them with Menelik Watson in the roster. Suspect I'll go to Falcons Lions as a mate of mine is a Falcons fan

Damn!

Done a goo job there, Dolphins and Cowboys are HUGE ticket sellers. I absolutely LOVE Texans so I'll be staying the weekend for that.

Want to see Matt Ryan as well so will try and do both.

Decent games yesterday, a few heading into OT. Quite fancy the Bengals for some reason for the Superbowl.
