I am in tears after the end of the Vikings - Bears match. How we are managing to find new, exciting ways to lose is actually quite impressive.

Still; two weeks to go until I finally get to see the Vikes in person after over a decade of following them. So excited.

Fantasy football is going mighty fine!

 

I chose Reggie Bush over DeSean Jackson which was a terrible idea.

 

That said I'm 2-0 (just like the Bears) - considering I'm already 20 points up with Marshawn Lynch still to play and Heggsy only has Jimmy Graham still playing in the 4th.

If rushing is dead in the NFL, it ain't dead yet. Look at Seattle, for starters.

Even the Broncos, who can boast a very potent passing attack, can use the running game effectively. The Broncos were held to 10 points in the 1st half and had an awful fumble on a run in the first drive. The Giants played a conservative defense, lining up with 2 linebackers in a nickel formation. However, when the Broncos got the ball to start the second half, they gained decent yardage on their first two plays--which were well-design runs.

Having a good run keeps the defense honest and makes the put more men "in the box." And when the Giants crept up close to the line, Peyton was able to pick them apart so easily. Before the Giants even knew it, the Broncos had scored 3 TDs in just over 5 minutes.

Meanwhile the Giants' RBs didn't fumble the ball, but their running game was nonexistent. And the Giants insist on running this stupid shotgun inside draw on EVERY DAMN 2ND AND LONG. The Giants' offensive line has a hard enough time blocking on straightforward rushing plays, so how can they run block on plays designed to sell a pass to the defense?

As it's completely unnecessary for opposing defenses to stop the run, Eli has to throw into a cloud of defensive backs almost every play. That's a perfect recipe for the Giants to throw even more interceptions.

Raiders made it nervous at the end and just couldn't score touchdowns, but they were good to cover. :thumbup: Also, if my math is correct, I've got 10 out of 15 picks correct this week--a nice improvement from Week 1--and will have won my pool again no matter how MNF turns out.

If you Aaron Rodgers on your fantasy team, you probably won...

I'm gonna be 0-2 very soon. Got destroyed by Peyton last week and this week has just been lacklustre all around. I'm the Jaguars of the Foxestalk league... :( 

 

Looks like Denver is going to be hard to stop this year. Whoa do they play some good football.

The Metrodome isn't exactly the most picturesque stadium in the NFL. In fact, I wouldn't even beat around the bush--I'll just say it's crap and a relic of soulless 1970s stadium design.

However, I have many good times there (mostly for baseball), and if there is a full crowd with a good game, it can get very loud (but in a different way to an English crowd).

Also, IMO the Twin Cities are an underrated metro area. I haven't been back since a visit in 2010 but I have fond memories from having lived there for a few years during my college days (MInneapolis/St Paul are "college towns" though not like Boston or Austin). Minneapolis is certainly the more lively of the Twin Cities, though. And you'll be glad you didn't visit in the winter...

Edit: I'll add that the Vikings are perhaps close to being an NFL cognate to Leicester City. Both are sort of located in the middle slab of their respective countries. Both teams are notorious for failure (Vikings are 0-4 in Super Bowls, Leicester are 0-4 in FA Cup Finals) and, yes, for figuring out absurd ways to lose. I also suppose the Vikings' "sex boat" scandal from a few years ago is their La Manga.

IIRC the Vikings got the OK from Minnesota's legislature to build the new stadium, and they're gonna knock down the Metrodome this summer, play at University of Minnesota's newish TCF Bank Stadium (they played a game there when the 'dome's roof collapsed), and play at the new stadium in 2016.

This must be some relief for Vikings fans (although prices will surely go up for them). Zygi Wilf had played around with moving the team (LA) as a bargaining chip, and there was also lots of talk about the Vikings building their new stadium in suburban Blaine (which is a town that's pretty much just made up of sports complexes).

I know with all the hang-ups, if you're a Vikings fan, you almost won't believe this until they actually put shovels in the ground. It also sucks that, after years of standing firm on the amount of public funding used to finance building the stadium, the Minnesota and Mpls legislatures caved in and half the cost of construction will be publicly funded. Using government money to build stadiums--especially NFL stadiums that are used just a handful of times each year--are often terrible deals for cities, states and taxpayers.

It's also rather interesting that, after years of all playing at the same stadium, the Vikings, the Twins, and the U's Golden Gophers football team will play in their own stadiums, all nearby each other, starting in 2016. Money talks.

You can't tailgate at the Dome, but if you like beer with your sports, I suggest you go Twin Cities style pre/post game and have a Grain Belt Premium as your American lager or a Summit IPA if you prefer pale ales.

Minnesota is known for being a hockey state, and also the U's teams are popular, but the Vikings are definitely the biggest team there. You'll find Vikings T-shirts and stuff on sale at supermarkets.

Even when things are going well, a lot of Vikings fans don't like to get too carried away. Once bitten, twice shy... Also, getting too excited about anything that doesn't involve boating or fishing isn't very Minnesotan.

I got them off someone as they're all sold out.

 

I'm gonna try and go for the £100 seats for the 49ers game in October.
