kingfox Posted 15 April 2013 Posted 15 April 2013 The World Snooker Championships, start this coming Saturday, and the draw has just been made for the first round. This year sees six debutants, the familiar faces of Marco Fu, Peter Ebdon and Mark King who managed to get through qualifying, while Ronnie O'Sullivan after taking time away from Snooker, returns to defend his title. The Draw... Ronnie O'Sullivan(1) v Marcus Campbell Ali Carter(16) v Ben Woollaston Stuart Bingham(9) v Sam Baird John Higgins(8) v Mark Davis Shaun Murphy(5) v Martin Gould Graeme Dott(12) v Peter Ebdon Matthew Stevens(13) v Marco Fu Judd Trump(4) v Dominic Dale Neil Robertson(3) v Robert Milkins Ricky Walden(14) v Michael Holt Mark Williams(11) v Michael White Stephen Maguire(6) v Dechawat Poomjaeng Mark Allen(7) v Mark King Ding Junhui(10) v Alan McManus Barry Hawkins(15) v Jack Lisowski Mark Selby(2) v Matthew Selt Some good matches, with our very own Mark Selby getting a pretty easy draw against debutant Matthew Selt, while fellow Leicester player Ben Woollaston who is also making his debut, faces last year runner up Ali Carter. Some other picks, are an all Welsh tie between Mark Williams v Michael White, Higgins v Davis, Stevens v Fu, Murphy v Gould could be good close one's. Look out for Jack Lisowski this year, could potentially face Selby in the second round. Thoughts?
Uncle Phil Posted 15 April 2013 Posted 15 April 2013 I've been looking forward to this for a while now though I still haven't decided who to back in the bookies. Ideal situation would be Selby or Robertson to win it with Ronnie O going out in the first round without winning a frame. Without scoring is probably too much to ask. Woollaston knocking out Carter would also put a big smile on my face.

Jiggers the Fox Posted 15 April 2013 Posted 15 April 2013 Looking to forward to this. I think it's great that there's snooker on at most times of the day for 2 weeks. Would love to see Selby win it!

I wouldn't put money on Selby just yet, especially if he meets Lisowski in the second round, Selby tactically is obviously better, but Lisowski is dangerous and one of the qualifiers who could make a real impact this year. Looking at the draw I really can't see past Robertson, we really don't know which Ronnie will turn up, he should get past Campbell, but it then could get harder from there depending on how he is playing.
StanSP Posted 15 April 2013 Posted 15 April 2013 Bit unfair that all the seeded players get to play at home.
Bert Posted 15 April 2013 Posted 15 April 2013 Selby will be there or there abouts. This is one of the hardest tournaments to call. Any of the top 16 could easily win it.
Libertine Dream Posted 15 April 2013 Posted 15 April 2013 Lisowski has been given a kind draw. Can honestly see Judd going out first round, not been great this year a Dale isn't an easy opponent. Hope O'Sullivan goes out early on, great player but just don't like him. Murphy and Allen will be strong again as well.
brockmyster Posted 15 April 2013 Posted 15 April 2013 I still love O'Sullivan one of the first people i properly watched playing and despite him being a nob he is unbelievable on the baize
isaidno Posted 15 April 2013 Posted 15 April 2013 I'm going a week on Friday. I've got Murphy/Gould vs Dott/Ebdon . Bought my tickets in January so had no idea who I was getting. Selby shouldn't have any problems reaching the quarter finals.

Thought you would be going I'm going to four sessions this year, Higgins v Davis on the Sunday, Robertson v Milkins on the Thursday, a potential second round match with O'Sullivan v Carter on the second Sunday, then a Semi Final on the Thursday.
foxfanazer Posted 17 April 2013 Posted 17 April 2013 Come on Ronnie! Love watching him play, just a different excitement than any of the other players. If Selby doesn't win i'd love ronnie to win
kingfox Posted 18 April 2013 Author Posted 18 April 2013 Two more days to go, for one of my favourite sporting events of the year. If anybody wants to ask me about certain players, or bets and shit, I'm willing to help. Snooker fanatic me, been following it since I was about 5 literally. Cannot wait
isaidno Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 It shoul d be between Selby and Robertson, they've been the best 2 players of the last 12 months. It's a shame they're in the same half of the draw.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 Never been time Snooker before so in the spirit that I have of experiencing new things each year (and I quite like the snooker) I just got a ticket for Sunday morning Dott v Ebdon. Probably not the greatest game in the world but its all I could get tickets to at short notice and I don't have to take time off of work! Next year ill be more organised and get tickets for Selby.

isaidno Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 Dott plays a lot faster now, he looked good at the masters .

You do you know they have a few tickets for a lot of sessions. Not just the shittest and probably slowest game of the first round between Dott v Ebdon. I'm going Sunday to see Higgins v Davis in the afternoon. Crucible is a brilliant place, this is my fifth year.

kingfox Posted 18 April 2013 Author Posted 18 April 2013 what are the average ticket prices? When I first went first round was £15. It's now gone up to £20-£22 depending on the time and day.
isaidno Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 I've paid £22 for round 2, first round used to be about £12.
foxfanazer Posted 18 April 2013 Posted 18 April 2013 Would like to go some time. Be great to see Ronnie play but I bet that costs a bit more!
