Beckford to Bolton

Yes can do, I often forget about that in all honesty since I'm on here but if I hear anything I'll update best as I can.

Excellent thanks!

Sorry Toffee Fox but I (and many others) beleive JB to be one of, if not THE laziest player ever to pull on the LCFC shirt.

Also, his apparent dis-ineterest at being here aside, his quality on the ball, and general decision making at times was appaling regardless of his reputaion and salary.

Good news that.

Always reliable & more often than not one of the very few on Twitter with genuine info on us.

Transfer news: Beckford has point to prove, say Bolton

By Mercury_Sport

Wednesday, July 03, 2013   FOLLOW

Jermaine Beckford has a point to prove after his career faltered at Leicester City, Bolton Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman has said.

Beckford is set to seal his transfer to the Trotters after passing his medical yesterday and agreeing personal terms on a two-year contract at the Reebok Stadium.

Jermaine Beckford is close to a £1million move from Leicester City to Bolton

Freedman says he believes the 29-year-old can rediscover his goalscoring form under his leadership.

Freedman was a team-mate of Beckford’s at Leeds United and says he had no hesitation in swooping for Beckford in a deal believed to be worth close to £1million, but he admits his poor spell at City over the past two years may have dented Beckford’s confidence.

“The reason I am trying to get Jermaine here is because I have worked with him,†he said.

“I know his character. I know he has got this up and down thought process and if things are not quite going right, that can come across in his performances. But that's right up my street to be honest with you.

“Jermaine has lost that fantastic goalscoring record that he had before and he has got a point to prove. He doesn't need to prove anything to me, though, because I know he has got the bit between his teeth.

“He maybe needs to prove to himself that he can still score goals.

“He went to Everton, there were ups and downs and you'll get that working in a big squad, but he scored 10 goals. Since then it's been up and down – but he chose the wrong move going to Leicester. He'll tell you that and we've all done it in our careers.

“I played with him at Leeds so I know exactly what he is all about and what makes him tick. I just see that sparkle in his eye that he wants to prove something to himself and I think we'll be the beneficiaries of that.â€

The move hasn’t officially been announced yet, but is expected to be confirmed in the next 24 hours.

“We are very close with Jermaine,†said Freedman. “We are not quite there but I do have a gentleman's handshake on it, which goes a long way for me.

“It's just a couple of small bits and pieces that we need to tidy up.

“I have told him that this wonderful club is going somewhere. If he wants to be part of it, come and talk to me.

“He was on holiday and literally straight after landing he was here to speak.

“He's someone I have worked with before, played with, and a proven goalscorer who I think will be very good for this football club.â€

Beckford needs someone like Dougie to get the best out of him. I wish him all the best, he'll do well there. He's never going to get that love from Pearson and Leicester.

Good luck to the bloke I think sometimes in football with strikers you do need to stick by them when they are not scoring and not drop them every time they go a few games without a goal. I think Pearson made a mistake starting with Vardy and Beckford beginning of the season looking back now I would of started with Nugent and Beckford instead

Dougie Freedman is no mug. I've got a feeling he'll get Beckford playing & Bolton will be right up there next season.

Very refreshing reading TBH.

Complete contrast to Pearson & his boorish silence, childish strops & after-match nonsense with the press.

Looks like you and Pearson have got something in common then.

Don't be fooled into thinking we will receive 800k from Bolton for Beckford!

Say he's on 30k here and will be getting 18K at bolton.

That's about 1.1 million in lost wages. Beckford hasn't asked to leave so we have to pay him any lost earnings for next 2 years (2 years left on contract with us) or come to a compromise.

I wouldn't be surprised if 800K was going straight back to Beckford.

That is the revealing paragraph, the problem with Beckford is not Pearson or any other manager, it's Beckford himself. It's all in his own head and only he can sort himself out. As a manager you can offer them all the help possible but then it's up to the player to take it and apply it.

If he gets off to a good start, he could well be leading scorer but if he has the same sort of start he had here, he'll be the same lazy sod he was for us and the only person to blame will be Beckford

So, JB's consistently lazy performances, inabilty to control a football and outrageous shots at goal from 50+ yards when anable/unwilling to look protect the ball are actually down to Pearsons 'lack of love'? - astonishing!

He was just as poor under Sven, is that Nige's fault?

He's never won promotion from this league though so according to you lot he must be shit.

That doesn't matter, we still have money for transfers its just the Thais know about the FFP and will not sign anyone until wages are freed up

Correct me if I'm completely wrong, but surely he's not entitled to any 'lost earnings' because Bolton have bought out that contract?

If players still get money after their contract has been bought out then that is an utter joke.

He's currently doing a Q+A with the fans on Bolton's official twitter feed, comes across very honest and passionate, I like Nigel but I wish he was more like this.

Not being funny but  this "ups and down" notion is not specific to Beckford in anyway. The majority of strikers are exactly the same, its a form position, one where you need confidence to thrive. Just sounds like an excuse for him being wank for such a long time

If player doesn't ask to leave, and a fee is accepted from another club, if his wages are less than he's currently on, any 'lost earnings' the club has to pay the player.

Happened with Peltier and Mills. Now Beckford.

That is an utter farce of a rule if that's true.

Doesn't make sense though. I thought the whole point of transfer fees was to buy out the players' current contract? So it's effectively ripped up, and then the buying club (Bolton in this case) sort him out a new one and that's that?

It is a joke yeah. Why do you tho Gally, Danns, Wellens etc don't request a transfer! Because if they ask to leave they won't be getting a pay off. Beckfords agent on twitter always said he's 'happy' at Leicester. football is just a money game to be honest now.

But surely if they transfer away, they get the money we 'owe' them plus whatever their new club is paying them?

I thought they just got 10% of the transfer fee if they moved and didn't request a transfer??

If we have to make up the in the wages for the rest of the contract that makes it pointless selling them anyway, you telling me Beckford could agree to a deal worth £1,000 a week without our consent and we still have to make up the shortfall?

That can't be right.
