Recommended Posts

Just saw on thisisleicestershire that Bolton are in talks with leicester over signing Jermaine Beckford.

Personally if we get enough let him go but I would prefer him to go to Huddersfield as they won't be challenging for promotion (if we don't go up)

Just wondered what others views on this was.

Neither will Bolton if they're starting with Jermaine up front.

I hope he signs before we go up, then no bonus payment for him

Impossible, we can agree a move, but he'll still be our player until the transfer window reopens in July.

His wages annoy me (which isn't his fault), but I don't think he is a bad player. Has more quality than Waghorn and Vardy, no doubt about that, but I would get rid considering he will be earning a lot of money for being a squad player... Sell to whoever, regardless of whether they are aiming for promotion, or not.

Probably our most natural talent and athlete. Shame about the work ethic and application. Character is the most important ingredient. You can't get out of this division without consistency.

Moyes and Pearson want people who put a shift in EVERY week. Jermaine obviously can't.

Or could he under a different type of motivator? Someone like O'Neill or a Keegan type?

If Bolton Wanderers want to take Jermaine Beckford from Leicester City and bring him a bit further up north, it seems that they will have to pay the Foxes a reportedfee in the neighborhood of £1 million. The fee is just 40% that of what Leicester paid when signing Beckford from Everton at the start of the 2011/12 season. Now, Leicester City are somewhat stuck between a rock and a hard place as it seems the striker is not in the Foxes' future plans.

Beckford is only two years through a four year contract at the King Power Stadium but over the course of the 2012/13 campaign, he was largely left out of Leicester's squad. In total, the striker appeared just five times for the Foxes (three starts total, two of which came in the league) before moving to Huddersfield Town on loan. At first, the loan was set to run only three months, but with no real way back into Leicester's first team, the loan was extended for the rest of the now-finished Championship season.

The striker would appear 22 times for Huddersfield Town over the course of the season across all competitions (one appearance in the FA Cup), scoring nine goals in total. That ratio, 9 from 22, is respectable. Had it continued over 46 Championship matches, Beckford would have ended up with a very good 19 goals. That said, the striker really struggled to find the back of the net for most of the season before hitting a very good vein of form at the end of the year and hitting five goals in the season's final four matches.

In Bolton's current financial situation, £1 million is a lot of money. Where it would have been a drop in the bucket a couple of seasons ago, those funds require serious consideration now. Manager Dougie Freedman, who has maintained that there is a plan and process in place for the Trotters, knows Beckford well. The Bolton boss spent the latter part of the 2007/08 season on loan at Leeds (then in League One) and played alongside the striker who was in tremendous form in that point. Dougie managed six goals in 14 appearances that season while Beckford scored 26 in 36 league matches and 33 goals in 42 appearances over all competitions.
