Eurovision 2014

It's a freak show anyway, who seriously watches something like this on a Saturday night?

I don't mind watching it as a one off thing once a year. I was revising as well so the background noise and quick glance up was something to lift the atmosphere I suppose.

X-Factor as leicsmanc has pointed out is even worse. The scripting for the shite audition fodder is so obvious it hurts and followed by about 5 weeks of awful acts until it filters down to the semi decent acts. Then the winner releases their instant Christmas no.1, an album about a year after when nobody cares and that's it from them. Generally second or third tends to actually make a career out of it.

Hopefully one day the whole thing will collapse from within itself along with Britain's Got Talent and that stupid jungle shite, it's unbearable.

I'll take your word for it on X Factor. I've never had the misfortune to watch it properly.

Sounds like proper trash tv.

Matt you missed out with Poland mate.

It's a bit of a shame the jury was full of gays.

There were actually some catchy numbers but the Austrian shemale wasn't one of them.

I like them Greeks, they're a fun bunch.

Poland's Eurovision effort was an internet hit before it was a Eurovision entry.

Just go on YouTube and look up My Slowianie.

I remember seeing it a while back lol my face when I saw it was Poland's entry waggy.gif

I thought at one time all the songs were near enough secret and could not  be released until after the contest.

One of the reasons we don't do well is we do not have many friendly neighbours. We enter as UK not seperate countries. Russia have split so the countries vote for each other. france Italy Belgium germany are neighbours  so people have friends living around Europe. Scandinavian countries the same. The only ones we have to rely on are the ex-pats and they are probably not interested in the contest.

Apart from our songs being rubbish they have nothing in common with other countries who often turn out tradional type songs. I don't know what could be done to improve ours. I'm sure studying the past winners and see if a pattern emerges and then a top writer to enter one with a decent artist.

Another way is if no=one knew what song represented which country then the vote would be entirely on the song. No doubt some would be obvious. I never saw it and still not heard our entry but I am assuming it was average even though it was performed well.

In the Metro today it was saying the UK judges comprised of three women and they voted Poland's entry last because of the stage act. one said What they did is nothing to do with what the contest was about. She said it went too far for a family audience and offended women.

So by condemning the act were they not ignoring the song? Bit of double standards there. considering a drag act won and possibly received more points because of it.

I never heard any of the songs  in full apart from the winner at the end and i have forgotten what it sounded like already.

Why is everyone getting so dramatic? We've had drag acts for years.

It's only like us entering Lilly Savage. Or any pantomime dame.

It's not a transgender she, is it? It's a he dressed as a she.

Thats some kinky stuff for sure.....

Saw this petition (http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/telegraph-online-remove-and-apologise-for-the-horrible-article-about-conchita-wurst-by-brendan-o-neill-on-the-telegraph-website?share_id=cMmLMuDPaE&utm_campaign=autopublish&utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=share_petition) had been signed by one of the people I have on my friends list on FB.

It's in response to this article from the Telegraph. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/brendanoneill2/100271084/conchita-wurst-is-a-man-so-why-is-everyone-referring-to-him-as-she/

Dunno if anyone fancies reading all that as it is quite a lot so I'll summarise it.

Apparently, Conchita isn't a transexual but an actual bloke who likes to be referred to as female. The Telegraph journalist says that this is something he struggles with as it's biologically untrue. This has been seen as deeply offensive by some people who view gender as a spectrum.

I used to think people who said there was an 'offence culture' in Britain were wrong but this (admittedly small) burst of outrage had made me think about it a bit. We've got people who are essentially arguing against facts in their attempts to be tolerant and accepting.

Do yourself a favour - never ever go into the 'Comment Is Free' section of the Guardian website. It's the most offended place on earth.

Just looked it up and I have seen it before. The video wasn't as good as the live performance though ;)
