Matt Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 Sheffield Wednesday losing £5m a year - Milan Mandaric Sheffield Wednesday owner Milan Mandaric has revealed the club are losing £5m a year. The Owls finished 18th in their first season back in the Championship after two years in League One. The former Portsmouth and Leicester City owner is servicing the club's debts at present. "This club is losing money, probably around £5m and next year won't be any different," he told BBC Radio Sheffield. "I'm not just looking for any buyer, I'm looking for the right buyer who can take this club where it wants to go. "There are a lot of people who come and have a look at the club but we're not pushing to sell the club at the moment. "I said before if someone proper comes along and they are the right person for the club then I will step aside. "I sold Leicester for less money than what I had invested but they were the right people and I felt like my mission was completed." The Serb, who took over at Hillsborough in December 2010, was in charge at Pompey when they gained promotion to the top-flight in 2003. He believes it would be unwise for the Owls to attempt to spend their way up this season. "It's not a matter of having the funds. It's about being realistic about what needs to be done. You want to make investments not just throw the money away," he said. "We have the money to field a competitive team, which we did at the end of the season. We're going to improve that team. "Our plan is to be there or thereabouts in January and then move on from there. For the time being our aim is to be in the top half of the table." Have we not heard this all in the past?! You'd have thought he'd have learnt by now wouldn't you? Didn't he claim it cost him £10m of his own money when we were in League One? Something like that anyway.
sylofox Posted 9 June 2013 Author Posted 9 June 2013 pretty much the same as here. took em down then got em back up.
Dan Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 The bloke's full of shit. I prefer King Power to him and I'm not massively sold on them yet.
Vardinhio Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 Fairplay to him, he leaves clubs in much better states than when he finds them!
Hugo Sanchez Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 The saviour, 3 year plan to get us out the championship and he did to be fair ...
stevelcfc Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 He's moaning, again, about losing money. If you don't want to loose money, you shouldn't be a football club owner!
Fox92 Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 So he's looking to offload the owls now. That will be another club with money to spend. So who's he going for nxt to make money out off. Covscum has my money on it. That's business, at the end of the day. Football clubs are just organisations, as proved by King Power who took all our banners of legends down to replace them with 'King Power' logo's. Business. And in terms of his time here, he sold the club to King Power who have backed us financially.
DennisNedry Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 He's not making money, that's why it's weird he keeps buying clubs.
Bayfox Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 He's not making money, that's why it's weird he keeps buying clubs. The thing is he makes money when he sells. I think it's how he makes his money nowdays. He picked pompey knowing he would get 12k bums on seats whatever happened. Gets them up so gets 20k gates instead. Bonus. Sells at the right time. Paid feck all for us in reality. Approx 800k lost 11million in l1 but still got 20k crowds. Sold us for 45million. Still a profit. Picks up weds knowing he again can get crowds of 20k no matter what. Keeps them in championship. Bet he gets 15million min if he finds a buyer.
Jimothy Posted 9 June 2013 Posted 9 June 2013 pretty much the same as here. took em down then got em back up. They were already in League One when I bought them.
glenny_fox Posted 10 June 2013 Posted 10 June 2013 They were already in League One when I bought them. Is that you Milan??
Jimothy Posted 10 June 2013 Posted 10 June 2013 Is that you Milan?? just stating a fact. He bought them in December 2010, when they were in league 1.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 10 June 2013 Posted 10 June 2013 But he took us down to league 1. Was his fault for hiring Martin Allen sacking him, with four games gone. Hiring Smegson, then him pissing off. Then hiring Holloway, and watch his just keep sliding. Then he did a good job for the two seasons, that followed. Promotion as champions and play offs. Hiring Lee Hoos and getting rid of Pearson. He's no great chairman or no leicester fan. He's a con artist and has the worlds biggest ego.
Wymsey Posted 10 June 2013 Posted 10 June 2013 I would trust Milan if I was a Sheff Weds fan, based on what he did for us (despite that relegation). He informed us before the Thais took over, that the club will be in 'safe hands', and he has been right thus far.

Just responded to someone who said his tenure at Wednesday mirrored his here. It doesn't, because he didn't take Wednesday down.
