Webbo Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 So everybody who has lost their benefits under ATOS has been tricked?
Vacamion Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 . If i could do a part time job i would get more money , what the hell do people think i can do with prolaps disc's in the neck and base of spine pressing onto the spinal cord with sciatica in leg hands and feet . so don't call me a scrauner like some of the others on this web site if i could work i would If you can type stuff in this thread and hold a conversation, you should be able to do a desk based/telephony job. I hope you are applying for such work, rather than writing yourself off as unemployable. As I posted earlier, just writing off people off because they are not fit for "physical" work is a crying shame, is not merited in the modern world and is a waste of our country's talent. Good luck in your job search.
Captain... Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 I was just reading an article regarding ATOS and this thread popped up at the top so I'll post a link... http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/mum-of-three-elenore-told-find-job-2074333 It's just another example of many who have been subjected to; Atrocious Treatment Of Sick = ATOS. There is no direct link to ATOS and her dying, as much as all the evidence seems to suggest ATOS are scum, that is a quite a leap to make, she has had problems since she was 15, yet has had 3 kids. The article is suggesting that the stress of being told to look for work caused her tumour to return, but if she is mentally and physically strong enough to have 3 kids she could probably have managed a job. They didn't tell a woman with a brain tumour to get a job, and the recurrence of the brain tumour was more likely coincidental.

Good luck in your job search. But it is not as simple as that, most companies wouldn't employ someone who wouldn't be able to come in to the office, and by the sounds of it he is in constant pain, and in a time of fairly high unemployment whilst he could do an unskilled desk job from home, nobody would employ him when there are plenty of fully abled candidates applying for the same job that have no mobility problems. It is all very well saying to someone get a job, but unless you are very skilled and experienced in a certain field, you are always going to be at a huge disadvantage if you have a physical disability.
Jon the Hat Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 thanks for the comments but didn't like the one that said i looked like Mick Philpott bastard he was ----but if you are on the receiving end of all the abuse i have had form people not just on this forum you wouldn't like it . i have has social services out was ready to commit suicide because of this hassle had disabilty taken away two and half years ago and still fighting DWP because of atoss lies. but thanks for your kind words Hi Charlie, welcome to Foxestalk! Dont take it too seriously, none of us know you so the thread was about the article really. Annoying as you visit must have been, this was not news, and reporting what was an admin error as some big drama that tells us something meaningful about ATOS is a pretty big leap . This is no reflection on your wider experience or situation with ATOS or your health, just this story. Incidentally how on earth did this end up in the press?

Unless you have skills and experience in a certain field then you are at a disadvantage anyway. The govt give grants to employ disabled people. Employers have to have equal opportunity employment practices so that isn't really an excuse.

Ross-Kemp Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 With spelling like that, no wonder you're unemployed. Plenty of jobs that you could do, but the fact is, you don't want to do it. You could walk into plenty of sales based commission only telephony jobs that doesn't require any qualifications, why haven't you ? I for one will not buy into your pathetic little sob story.
Vacamion Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 lol fookin unbelievable !! Most 80 year olds would be capable of doing that ,Should we round up those old scroungers and get 'em back into work ? Err No. That's ridiculous. 80 year olds are assumed to have either done their bit or to not be able to. That's why we have a retirement age. Back injuries shouldn't be a "free pass" to never having to work ever (whilst you are below retirement age ) even though you are capable of doing some sort of work. I'm sorry, but if you can sit typing stuff into an internet forum then you are able to do some sort of clerical work. You should also be capable of applying for work. Companies who discriminate against people on the basis of disabilities are subject to laws designed to prevent that. I'm not suggesting that all benefits should cease immediately, but the State should be looking at using the talents of people productively by finding work they can do, rather than writing them off. If people write themselves off or refuse to take any steps to help themselves, then yes, their benefits should cease.

OK Doctor Vacamion , if you think being able to type a few lines on a forum is a good indication of fitness for work , I'll have to leave it there,
Zingari Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 So everybody who has lost their benefits under ATOS has been tricked? Maybe Maybe not , but I really think it would have been difficult for them to fool "real doctors" that there was actually enough wrong with them to warrant being classified as physically or mentally impaired enough to reasonably be expected to do full time work .( it's no good being capable of even part time work because most in that situation are similar to charley9 ) ATOS are no more than box ticking office boys and girls on a remit to get people off of benefits They seem to be of a similar attitude to Vacamion that if you can hold a conversation or post on here you able to work. It really isn't that simple

It really isn't that simple You're assuming that real doctors want to get involved. Dr Rosemary Leonard said on breakfast news last year that if they turn someone down for disability benefits they can be reported to a higher authority and then they get weighed down in long legal entanglements. Sometimes it's easier to go with the flow.
Vacamion Posted 1 August 2013 Posted 1 August 2013 They seem to be of a similar attitude to Vacamion that if you can hold a conversation or post on here you able to work. It really isn't that simple But it really IS that simple. I have worked with men and women whose jobs consist of sitting at a screen with a headset on and typing the occasional figure into a pre-set tickbox system, whilst talking to people on the phone. As I have pointed out elsewhere, it's not THAT much more demanding of a person's abilities than Prof Hawking's level of ability. Yes, doing it for several hours might be uncomfortable, or not what the individual would rather be doing, but guess what, that's what the rest of us worker drones have to do to earn a living.

You could walk into plenty of sales based commission only telephony jobs that doesn't require any qualifications, why haven't you ? I for one will not buy into your pathetic little sob story. And with an attitude like that you are a massive tool. He has a "a degenerative bone disease in his spine" from the mercury "prolaps disc's in the neck and base of spine pressing onto the spinal cord with sciatica in leg hands and feet ." his own words. Do you even know what that means? This isn't a "back problem" it is a serious medical condition that leaves people in a lot of pain. He is not a scrounger "The 52-year-old former foundry worker of Market Harborough," he had a job presumably until he was incapacitated, and as you so tactfully pointed out, his spelling indicates he probably isn't the most literary and computer savvy, probably not a requirement whilst working in a foundry, coupled with sciatica in his hands, he probably doesn't find it very easy using a computer. And you really want to ask him why he hasn't just "walked" into a telesales job, like it is that easy, like there isn't 2.5 million people unemployed at the moment in this country.

Sometimes it's easier to go with the flow. Would to same thing apply to ATOS ? If not , why not ? It's a pass the buck scam . Anyway i've said all i really want to say about it . I'm certainly not going to change anyone's mind maybe i'm just too soft

Absolutely. There is already one in our group who is nicknamed Philpott and Whiting after the pair of them.

Uncomfortable is one thing, leaving people in serious pain is another, and as I have just said in another post, 2.5 million unemployed, it is not just a case of walking into these "unskilled jobs suitable for people with serious mobility problems".

I really think you're wasting your time Captain. I find it amazing that we are more concerned about getting people to work who have serious medical conditions and begrudge them a pittance to live on , but don't give a fook about all the pigs at the trough ( like the bosses of Atos) fleecing us every day. We are our own worst enemy . ah well

Rincewind Posted 1 August 2013 Author Posted 1 August 2013 Iam the person that you are all slagging off, it said bring all medication and medical aids and did not say any thing about not going in a wheel chairs DWP new 2 months before that i would have to use one when i got there because of the pain , people think i am scronger but i do not claim any thing else i have to pay for anything i have medication, glass's,teeth, everything. If i could do a part time job i would get more money , what the hell do people think i can do with prolaps disc's in the neck and base of spine pressing onto the spinal cord with sciatica in leg hands and feet . so don't call me a scrauner like some of the others on this web site if i could work i would my wife and daughter work full time ,i went by all the information i was told and we were even helped into the room by there staff who never said anything about me being in a wheel chair until we got to the desk in the waiting room I started the thread. IMy intention was not to judge but to hilight some of the failings of ATOS (who have now had the assessment monopoly taken away from them.) I do alittle helping out at a community radio station that deals with many social issues including disability and housing. One hour is presented by Andy Morris a local disability rights campaigner and I remember him bringing this subject when it was first in the papers. If you want to visit the station and have your say on air (internet only) I am sure you would be most welcome. Most on here are OK and others joke a lot so don't take them too serious. The link in my sig below may have more disability issues stories not found in the mainstream press but from reports and surveys by various groups.
