Trumpet Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 Is anyone else finding this years incredibly easy? I'm on my fourth season with Mansfield and i'm top of league one in February after avoiding relegation in my first season, promoted the second season and narrowly missing out on a play off place in my third season. Also, Jack Thomas of Mansfield is a tidy player for lower leagues.

I remain inconsistent with Lazio although I've had a very hard start.

We're pretty much underdogs but squad harmony is maxed, definitely has contributed to my success.

Currently in the my first PL season with Leicester (4th season overall after 3 years in the Championship) and I'm in the relegation zone! Never usually this hard, I usually find it easier than this... Lost 5-1 at Chelsea, 5-1 at Manchester United and 8-1 at Everton!
Stadt Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 I started at Espanyol, their squad is tiny, full of slow players and I have virtually no money to spend which is shit because I have no experience of FM. Anyway sold Sergio Garcia and got Boyata and Guidetti on loan as I have a partnership with Man City which could prove to be useful.
Dan Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 The number of red cards I get is absolutely ridiculous and I've had enough of the ***** blubbering every time they get fined. I wish you could dock more than two weeks wages because they're just stupid red cards.
Trumpet Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 Just bottled the league in the last 5 games, to win promotion via a play-off final shoot out. Happy days. I can go bed now, knowing that Mansfield are a Championship outfit.

I wish you could dock more than two weeks wages because they're just stupid red cards. One of my pet hates on this game. I had a player not turn up for training, so I warned him and he thought I was being harsh! He did it again and I fined him 2 weeks wages and shoved him in the rezzies. This went on for the rest of the season. I must've saved a fortune in wages. I've said it before though; I'd love a 'hairdryer' option for player chats. Forget 'assertive' or 'passionate', I want to dish out a proper bollocking. A headbutt option would be nice too.
beemeroo Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 i honestly dont know what to say, this is my backup keeper, replacing the last guy who let in the clearence from the other end. I had Kasper let in a clearance from the opposition's box. He just seemed to dummy it through his legs... Seems a bit buggy to me.

Stadt Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Are there any clubs with loads of money in the 2nd division?

They're a load of ****ing babies and my captain is the worst for it. He's got fantastic mental stats as well which is annoying as ever since I've discovered the beauty of tutoring (although I swear this isn't as good on 14) I've wanted players who are high in determination. I think there should be more ways of working on your discipline. I've got 'stay on feet' as opposed to 'get stuck in' and we still get more reds than any other team.
Beliall Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 i dont care if hes got 5 stars, im not signing this scary looking individual!
Dan Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 A 3-0 loss at Catania has seen me decide I can't be arsed with these. I'm tempted to start as Leicester. Simply don't understand how you play this game. Literally not a single thing works.
Beliall Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 playing the game with high reputation clubs is tough, no matter what your managers experience, try a foreign lower league game, less expectation and the players can really surprise you, my CB got 11 goals last season, more than my 2nd choice striker
Stadt Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 Espanyol is probably too much for me because I've barely played fm - I've won one game in 6 . Can't defend set pieces or score enough goals.
Fox92 Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 First attempt in the PL with Leicester and I got relegated. FFS.
Buzzell Posted 3 February 2014 Posted 3 February 2014 I got to the January transfer window on my first season with Leicester, got taken over by new owners only to be given the sack because they wanted a new manager. Wasn't even doing that bad either! FFS!

The one place I did well at was Leicester until I went on 'that' horrendous run (I'm convinced no-one will ever top it without trying). Lazio, Sevilla and Palermo are all decent sized clubs with expectation, and none of them really give you a great backing. I've gone and taken over Bilbao. Maybe I've fallen into the trap again but I'm going to try something completely different. Going to try and base my whole game on pressing and retaining possession. Will go one of two ways.
Beliall Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 well, after winning and drawing my first few games, i lost a game quite heavily, cant get my new signings to perform, and the old players are just not good enough, next up was a cup game, so i decided to let my ass man pick the side. this is what happened against a much stronger dundee side. i wouldnt have played these players in those postions or with those instructions. i recommend it if your struggling. Dan, i know its hard, but try to find the positives in a formation and tweek it a bit, also, stick with one, it took me 2 seasons to get my squad playing the way i want in a 4-4-1-1, in our promotion year we won lots of games, but always had around 60% possession
BstarFox Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Advice on lower league management? I am currently managing Swindon and my team has been very inconsistent and even when i do win the majority of my players get poor match ratings. I play 4-1-2-2-1 with an AF, two IF(A), BBM, AP(S), DM(D), two central defenders and two fullbacks(s). I play control balanced at home and counter balanced away with higher tempo, pass into space, work into box and hassle opponents as my instructions. I prefer 4-1-2-2-1 and 4-2-3-1 but i dont know how to get them to work. I want my all my players to chip in with the goals and not just the striker(s) scoring them all. What am i doing wrong?
leicester4life Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 I've got a proper feud going on with Billy Davies, love it.
Beliall Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Looks like your over thinking it. Usually a succesful formation in lower leagues is always succesful, home or away, untill it isnt, then only a minor change is needed. For example. 4-1-2-2-1 could become 4-1-4-1. and you could play the same players. If control works, keep using it as often as you can until you meet stronger opposition. I would have in a 4-1-2-2-1 (On my phone so hope this looks readable) Lfb - lcb - lcb - lfb Bwm (d) Bbm (s) dlp (d) W ( a) w (a) Af / tm (s) It really depends of the type of players you have though. Sometimes just saying play direct is enough, i wouldnt recommend pass into space if it results in less possession overall. if your players have poor passing stats tell them to play it shorter perhaps. Player instructions are more important i find. I conceded much less just by telling my midfielders to play less risky passes and mark tighter / close down more.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Anyone playing as a top champ/mid prem side should sign Charlie Austin if they need goals.I took over Palace in 3rd season after 2 play off heartaches with city in the prem. Despite getting relegated he was top scorer with 17 goals. Now after 8 games in the champ he has 10 goals. Had to reject a 10 mil bid from the Swans for him.
Beliall Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 finally managed to get the board to relay the pitch after nagging them for 2 years. so i thought id push my luck and ask that the youth facilities be improved too, they refused so i leaked it to the press and instantly , they told me that the work would be done
