The general attitude of people in 2013

Me and the Mrs went walking up Edale last weekend, she couldn't believe how polite and friendly everyone was.

There are still loads of nice people out there you just have to know where to go.

Fair point, stick to middle class areas and you'll generally be ok.

I still like to believe the majority of British people are still inherently good in their hearts, but for the reasons Moosebreath mentioned everyone is caught up in this 'me' mentality. I try to be polite to everyone and I'm at the point now where I'm actually surprised when someone thanks me for holding a door open or letting them through a gate first. At the the hospital particularly, I am so tired of colleagues being rude to me when I am nothing but nice and helpful, I don't care how stressed they are.

Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about, we should be kind.

I like that.

There is a real theme in this country in that everyone has 'issues' and as a result I think many go around with an attitude something along the lines of 'You have no idea what I have been through' and they seem somehow hard done by and think the World owes them something, when in truth we all have had bad experiences or are carrying scars from the past so no one should think themselves more deserving than another.

I show up in middle class areas in a hoody and track suits bottoms and everyone thinks I'm about to mug them. In fact I went to a garden centre with my mother a couple of weekends back and I had DIY old clothes on and all the berghaus brigade were diving for cover as I passed in case I breathed on them.

More and more I'm seeing you as a male version of Katie Hopkins  :D

If that happened then ok. Sounded like you braked for no reason other than to cause them to hit your van.

Oh come on, to witness someone running into the side of his van would be ****ing hilarious.

I definitely agree with this.

I blame the t.v culture and the talentless cretins they make rich and famous for such things as being overly gay or incredibly stupid, bad mouthed and badly behaved. People see it on tv and think it's ok to behave like that themselves.

I think I'm going to be sick now

The snake apparently was quite friendly and approachable when interviewed on This Morning, though.

To witness it is funny, to hear the thud as well is ****ing hilarious.

It's a completely daft thing to be annoyed about though, I'll often jog across the road rather than using the crossing if it's clear. There's no offence of j-walking in the UK and if he used the crossing he would have to halt the flow of traffic probably unnecessarily.

I just find it odd to be annoyed at someone doing that compared to say somebody who just walks out in front of you and then makes no effort to cross quickly usually with an air of "**** you, I'm going to make you stop because I can".

I just ignore it,

I think this is it really. everyone has to be a martyr, doesnt matter how trivial an issue they have, because its happening to them its worse than bosnia and the holocaust combined.

when I was 19 I woke up one morning went downstairs and my dad told me my mother has passed away in the night. I went in to work that very day but I didnt go round acting like a martyr and being a dick to everyone, much the opposite.

I suppose I'm just one of those people who enjoys being nice, I like holding the door open for people, I like having a friendly conversation with customers and work colleagues, I like saying hello to people I pass in the street and I get a nice warm fuzzy feeling when I give a homeless man a couple of quid for playing a violin in the street or something.

I'm sure this is how most people are actually but we just remember the nob heads  lol

Doesn't bother me people crossing the road anywhere when it's clear, it's when there is a stream of traffic and they stand in the middle of the road like one o clock half struck when they could easily stop the traffic using the crossing and thus avoid me knotching another mark on my van for a direct hit.

Not something I'd get annoyed about myself either though it is something I've nearly done myself. One day the thud in the side of his van could be me.

Really sounds to me like you are part of the problem.

You see someone doing something that annoys you, for no real reason, so you go out of your way to make their life more difficult, that is pretty much what this thread is about, selfish people, making other people's lives more difficult.

In a few thousand years sociologists will most likely point to a myriad of factors that led to the fall of Western Civilisation, one of them being social media, you remember when people used to say, "You wouldn't say that to him in real life!", not heard that for a while, probably because nowadays people will just call someone a cvnt in real life, as methods of socially interacting on the internet seeps into the real world.

It is also a cultural thing and certainly has more to do with deifying the likes of Simon Cowell, and his "hilarious" put downs of the mentally ill, than any political leanings, mainly because nobody gives a shit about politics any more.

It is also born out of frustration that the country seems to be going to the dogs and there is fvck all you can do about it as democracy is a fallacy and any sensible commentary is drowned out by morons screaming hyperbole, so people think fvck it why should give a shit about anyone else, nobody gives a shit about me.

Maybe I'm just naive but I don't think we're any worse than we used to be,in real life rather than the internet anyway. Me witnessing bad behaviour is more of an exception  than the rule.

With the internet, since I've had it, about 6 years, it's always been ruder and more aggressive than the outside world but people are braver from behind their screen, so it's to be expected.

Some good points here.

The reality TV stuff in all seriousness isn't far off the old Victorian freak shows when you look at the first few weeks of it, the intellectually incapable are dragged out onto a stage in front of a live audience of thousands and a TV audience of millions to humiliate themselves for the enjoyment of others. You could say that it's their choice these days but it's clear some of the them have been coerced into it by people filling their heads with untruths for whatever reason.

I've said before Social Media and the Internet will be the death or us, the days of the moron spouting nonsense 24/7 has been removed from the drunk in the pub we all laughed at and been replaced by people like Piers Morgan and Joey Barton speaking to 3million follows and people actually believe and agree with what they say just because they like the guy saying it.

Maybe it's best the sensible ones shut themselves off it eventually.
