Renart Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 I am interested to know whether people think that the international break has come at the right time for us? Personally, I always hate going into an international break on the back of a defeat as that feeling of frustration is extended! However, that is from a fan's point-of-view. From a footballing point of view it is often said that teams that are on a good run of form can be frustrated by a 2 week break for international fixtures but what about in our circumstances? Have we been denied the chance to bounce straight back or does this give NP time to press the reset button? Time to work on problems and tactics in training (for those not on international duty)? Time for a breather for some and a change of scenery for others? I was just thinking that the last time we lost (away against Charlton) many of the same things were being said and then followed an international break and a convincing home win against Wigan where the team looked refreshed and up-for-it!
Corky Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Yes. We've had 7 games in three weeks and we need a couple of weeks to take stock of where we are and get the players used to training regularly before we start going again.
Jimmy Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 6 games in a row the same 11 started and played most of the games, as Nigel is extremely slow in making subs, even when its not working, very few of our internationals will actually play either with only King, given all their injuries a likely starter, so even though they will be away and training they will still be more rested for our next game
_Fatboyslow_ Posted 7 October 2013 Posted 7 October 2013 Yes to give them a break and also to work with the new signings so that we do have working options. And maybe sniff out a couple of loaners
Renart Posted 7 October 2013 Author Posted 7 October 2013 All of that seems to make sense and I would agree with what has been said but, without turning this thread into something negative (it was intended more to give hope than the other way around), what, therefore, can NP do to combat 'fatigue', complacency.. or whatever it is that seems to cause a slump in form (if that is what it is) after several games in quick succession? Is it just the nature of the Championship these days? Do we have the depth in squad? Most people were happy with the same starting 11 being played until after the lackluster performance of the weekend... There was a 'if it isn't broken attitude' among many, which quickly changed to 'I told you so' and 'why didn't NP change it'. Are we compromised by the cup run? I personally think that form in this league is bound to fluctuate and I will take a 'poor' performance and a loss (for the reasons that have been given above) if there is, at the very least, an upturn in attitude the next time we play (after a break). I am not too worried at present as I think the team will have time to reflect and get things sorted but it is interesting to see that there might be some predictability to our form based on games played. I am going to look at this as a positive as surely if you can see the problem then at least you know what it is you are trying to fix! Right? Whereas, if a teams performance fluctuates markedly from game to game it would be much more difficult to put right what is essentially unknown.
HitchinFox Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 I think it the timing isn't too bad. • Will give GTF and Big Was - neither of whom had pre-season training - to get 100 per cent match fit, integrate into our system and become genuine options. • Feel we were running out of steam a little bit in the last two games. We've played an unchanged team for how many games on the trot now? King and a couple of others looked a bit tired, epitomised in the fact that we gave up playing football and started hoofing it against Donnie. Gives everybody a bit of a rest in the run up to crucial games. Like many said before, would've been nice to go on the break on a high, but you can't win them all. Oh, and looking forward to Was breaking some legs against England and becoming a national hate figure.
LCCFox96 Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 I think the rest was much needed and the chance to integrate the news signings is needed. Although wasyl has been called up so hopefully he can get match fitness too. GTF could be good if we get him fully fit over these two weeks. Also a chance for Wood and SSL to get injury free and catch up on fitness then we would have a full squad. Would like another wide option in on loan just for that flexibility later in the season, a younger lad of Michael keane's attitude and work rate would be good.

Ozwin Posted 8 October 2013 Posted 8 October 2013 For the team yes. For me, no, I ****ing hate the international break.
Renart Posted 9 November 2013 Author Posted 9 November 2013 Maybe time to resurrect this. Not suggesting that it is a continued curse or anything (I am not superstitious). Do we run out of steam after a run of games? Can it be put down to overconfidence? Or is it simply coincidence and bad luck?
Stadt Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 Perhaps the players are thinking about a bit of rest rather than actually playing.
iamafox Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 If it wasn't for the international breaks, we would still be unbeaten!
Guest ttfn Posted 9 November 2013 Posted 9 November 2013 GTF had a pre season. Just not with us. I don't think that a Hot Dog eating contest qualifies as pre-season.
Guest Col city fan Posted 10 November 2013 Posted 10 November 2013 I hate the international breaks. They are completely boring. In terms of our players 'needing one'... Well why? We shouldn't be any less fit and ready than any of the other clubs.
Fox92 Posted 10 November 2013 Posted 10 November 2013 Doncaster, Charlton, Nottingham Forest... We lose when international breaks are approaching, to teams in red who are managed by ex-Leicester players! ?
Happy Fox Posted 10 November 2013 Posted 10 November 2013 International breaks are shit thank goodness the next one isn't till March!

I most certainly don't, I take it you've been watching football for since before this season? so why are you moaning about something that is well established?

Jimmy Posted 10 November 2013 Posted 10 November 2013 Eh? You lost me there? you seem to be under the impression its just to give players a rest, we have 4 away and maybe Wes Morgan too, not sure if Jamaica have a game and that is why we have international breaks

Not that they don't have to play the internationals.
foxfanazer Posted 10 November 2013 Posted 10 November 2013 Good to get the players fit and ready to go again but on a personal level I hate international breaks!
