Freeman's Wharfer Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 Group A - Brazil (1st), Croatia (2nd) Group B - Spain (1st), Chile (2nd) Group C - Colombia (1st), Ivory Coast (2nd) Group D - Uruguay (1st), England (2nd) Group E - France (1st), Switzerland (2nd) Group F - Argentina (1st), Nigeria (2nd) Group G - Germany (1st), Portugal (2nd) Group H - Belgium (1st), Russia (2nd) I think groups E-F will be fairly predictable and that A-D is where we'll see any shocks.
kingfox Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 And the award for the longest thread title of the year goes to...

DennisNedry Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Surprised by the confidence people have in England progressing. For me, Uraguay and Italy are too strong.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Can't believe no one is backing the mighty socceroos
Dan Posted 10 December 2013 Posted 10 December 2013 Group D is the hardest to predict. I'd normally be confident in Uruguay & Italy but you never know, England don't lose too many.
The Blur Posted 10 December 2013 Posted 10 December 2013 I wish I share you all faith in England I actually won't mind if they are knocked out in group stages. It would be a good kick up our backsides and provide a further incentive to change our youth system but then again if we did not do anything after Euros 2008 then we never will.

I think Ecuador are favourites to beat Switzerland in South America. Group A: Brazil, Croatia Group B: Spain, Chile Group C: Colombia, Japan Group D: Uruguay, Italy Group E : Ecaudor, France Group F: Argentina, Bosnia-Hercegovina Group G: Germany, Portugal Group H: Belgium, Russia

I've accepted England will never move on. The problems lie in our philosophy (or lack of) and physical approach to the game and it's one thing we as a nation are simply incapable of collectively getting over. I think it'd be typical England to scrape through that group although this is the poorest defence we've had in years. If we face an in-form Suarez/Cavani then we can wave goodbye.

I quite rate them - play some very nice football.

Jordan Posted 10 December 2013 Posted 10 December 2013 I think Ecuador are favourites to beat Switzerland in South America. It's worth noting that Ecuador are historically a much different team away from the high altitude of Quito. They had three draws and five losses in their eight away WC qualifiers. While I would think several European teams will underperform in Brazil, I still think Switzerland will scrape by out of that group. Edit: and I would certainly not write off Honduras' chances.
Guest MattP Posted 10 December 2013 Posted 10 December 2013 I see a lot are going for Japan as well. I quite rate them - play some very nice football. Very good little side, capable. If the bookies make Ivory Coast favourites to beat them I'll be going in on Japan. It's worth noting that Ecuador are historically a much different team away from the high altitude of Quito. Of course but they will still be far more suited to conditions than any European side. They look shocking away but its not as bad as it looks, a draw in Uruguay is decent and apart from the Argeies no one beat them by more than a goal.
