Bert Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Well you've been on the backs of everyone who has said Nugent isn't playing well enough and today he was absolutely shite. Never in a million years was he better than Vardy today. Vardy put himself about all game and hassled the opposition's defence no end. In my book you can miss the odd chance (Vardy should have scored 2) if you work hard enough because you're creating space and opportunities for the team but Nugent doesn't look interested at the moment. He's lucky that Wood is injured and that he's got a couple more games till the window opens because he's not looked anything like the player he was and needs dropping. If he wants a new contract, then he needs to earn one. Read around lad, you'll see I've said he's not been good but from some people he isn't getting a fair spin of the coin and this thread proves that. He was statistically better in all but one aspect of their games today but because it was only a small percentage it's bollocks.
Dickov22 Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Why would anyone look at statistics? Surely the naked eye tells you whether a player had a good game or not? Nugent did ok Vardy did slightly better. Anyone who knows football could see that today. Vardy should have scored with the header, Nugent was pretty woeful and lethargic second half. Why does everyone like to argue about these two? They're both doing fine in my opinion.
FoxyPalace.com Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 We are so blunt up front it's laughable. We have great build up play but when it comes to banging them in, we are toothless.

Look at the variation in ratings for the match given by those who attended. I'm not saying it is possible to go all moneyball over things but we often confuse running around and being a pest with actually being useful

I'm not saying it is possible to go all moneyball over things but we often confuse running around and being a pest with actually being useful After being a member of this forum for a number of months, I've realised that the majority don't really know what they're talking about. Vardy did more than 'run around being a pest'. He hassled, linked up well with Nugent, won a penalty and gave his all. He should have scored though, granted. Nugent looked better first half than he has for a while. He was lacklustre second half, but nowhere near as bad as some make out.
Haydos Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Facts don't count when Nugent is involved. Point proven that Nugent was better than Vardy today bar work rate. Are you kidding or being serious? Those few stats are not proof that nugent was better
Tom17LCFC Posted 14 December 2013 Author Posted 14 December 2013 If this was Vardy nothing would be uttered about it. Just the fact that he shown great determination "something Nugent doesn't do". . He did more than show 'great determination' though didn't he? You're making out as if Vardy had a mare when in reality, despite those stats that prove barely anything (other than Nugent completing an extra pass or 2), he had a much better game.

That site (and this will create a completely new debate) gave Nugent a rating of 7.38/10. Vardy scored 6.45 Over the season Nugent 6.95 Vardy 7.02 I 'think' that will indicate that it does take into consideration running around as Nugents 10 goals v Vardy's 6 hasn't placed Nugent top of the ratings

I rate him and have stuck by him when people have been bringing up the ridiculous 'goals from open play' argument. I just don't think Vardy's getting the credit he deserves for today, when for the most part, Nugent was very average.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 It's not allowing me to quote you Fleckney but in regard to your point about running about not being useful that's equally true about pass percentage. I would say atleast half of Nugent's succesfull passes would be around 5 yard, very simple balls. Statistics can very easily cloud performances.
kyleolly Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 nugent has scored 7 penalties this season just wondering how many of them were won by Vardy?

He did a lot of closing down and running about which masked that fact but his overall contribution in terms of linking play in the final third and testing the keeper was really bad. Nugent has been poor for getting on 12 months now but his goals (be them penalties or otherwise) have counteracted that.

With the exception of his two misses I thought he contributed well overall. Nugent's a difficult one. Not been on the form you'd expect for a while but without his goals I dread to think where we'd be. Always feel like he has a goal in him as well.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Fook it if only we had Mike Newell up front.....

I would say atleast half of Nugent's succesfull passes would be around 5 yard, very simple balls. Statistics can very easily cloud performances. I'd still say passing successfully to a team mate is still useful, 5 yard simple balls are the bread and butter of any side, many supporters (of all colours) have this obsession with raking cross-field balls which look spectacular but generally achieve very little and this seems to be reflected in this table at the 'top' level it appears to have had the following impact BUT we still have the lowest % (41) of forward passes in major European leagues
Finn Claw II Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 I'd drop either of them for a fit GTF or even a fit Ebanks-Blake. Vardy put in another shift and Nugent scored another penalty but I don't think we really looked like we were going to score today. Vardy probably had the best chance for us in the game and missed. A striker and a winger are hopefully on Pearson's christmas list
cjslcfc Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 What I did find myself wondering today was how far ahead in the league we would be if we had Vokes and Ings up front as a pair. They worked magnificently off of each other

A striker and a winger are hopefully on Pearson's christmas list Im finding it hard to believe how ANYONE could want to drop Vardy for Gary Taylor fookin Fletcher!! Vardy was a pain in their arse constantly until he got injured. He gave their defence no time on the ball and this led to us attacking high up the pitch and completely dominating the game. The forum appears to be becoming more bizarre. GTF is NOT the answer up front. He's long past his best days and we can do much better up front than this bloke. I'm a little astounded....
Tielemans63 Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 I like JV but I've thought for ages that he should be used as a super sub. Bring him in with 20 minutes left against knackered defences and he'd be lethal IMHO. Having said that, no one deserves to be starting ahead of him right now.
Finn Claw II Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 I did say fit GTF and he won't be anytime soon I'd say he is 10K+ overweight... We dominated without creating much in terms of clear cut chances perhaps I'm missing all the games when we are better but I've seen this time and again this season. I'm not convinced with any of them to be fair but right now our only real option is JV and Nuge up front and if we are serious about promotion that is a worry
Banks Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Can't dislike him, he's a good player. Like him a lot, just needs to work on his finishing.
