Tom17LCFC Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Thought this lad deserves a special mention today. His work rate is absolutely incredible. Unlucky not to score. MOTM for me.
theessexfox Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 I admire his work rate but he's got to be more clinical at this level.
Harry - LCFC Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 I like him a lot but I don't think you can really say he was unlucky not to score, it was a just a bad attempt at goal late on. I don't criticise him much but that was pretty poor IMO.
Bert Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Unlucky not to score? They're chances he should be taking. Poor misses.
Devonfox1884 Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 He did well. Could have won it for us late on though.
Leicester Lass Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 He wasn't unlucky not to score, he missed two great chances, big difference. Can't fail his work rate but we need a striker who can put chances like that away on a regular basis.
Monsell1976 Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Thought this lad deserves a special mention today. His work rate is absolutely incredible. Unlucky not to score. MOTM for me.Unlucky not to score, he missed a sitter, and should be disappointed with himself
foxfanazer Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Yep needs to sharpen up in front of goal but his work rate and link up play is fantastic
Dr The Singh Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Reminds me of Akinbiyi, loads of work rate, not enough talent!!
Tom17LCFC Posted 14 December 2013 Author Posted 14 December 2013 Poor choice of words from me. I agree he needs to be more clinical but if he keeps playing the way he did today it'll come.
Kitchandro Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 If he could finish he'd be great. His work ethic is brilliant and that alone makes his general play vital (take note, Nugent - throwing your arms up and getting outmuscled won't create us any openings). Sadly, what we're lacking is goals and as a striker he needs to do better in that area.
Blueblood1989 Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 I think at times he makes nugent look like hes the one thats come from non league
Sampson Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 He's becoming the new Iain Hume - all puff and no end product. No saying he's a bad player, but he can't keep missing so many opportunities.
Happy Fox Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 2 clear cut chances he missed today no excuses needs to finish them, hoping if we sign Ebanks-Blake that he can bolster the forward line.
Mark_w Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 He's been our best striker so far this season, if we're going to complain about our strikers he certainly shouldn't be first in the queue.
Nick Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 We all love a hard worker... but give me a Yakubu over a Vardy all season long.
Harry - LCFC Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Six goals this season. Just under one goal every three games in the league, tad harsh to say he's got no end product. Not great today I know but over the course of the season he's done okay in front of goal.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 "We need someone who can take chances", "No end product", "He needs to learn to finish"... The guy's scored more goals for us from open play than anyone else this season. Give him a break! He was fantastic today and even if just half of the rest of them showed his effort and desire 2nd half we'd have put that game to bed.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Love Vards, yeah he could have scored but at least he was there making the right runs (know its a cliché but its also spot on) and made chances for himself ie the penalty. Also, how much has his first touch and left foot come on! Top marks for ironing out the weaknesses in his game

He was fantastic today and even if just half of the rest of them showed his effort and desire 2nd half we'd have put that game to bed. But isn't that a problem? Clearly he's not the best goalscorer. A team playing positive football an in the top 3 needs better than a 1 in 3 man from open play. That's not a dig at Vardy as such, but I don't think that stat in bold shows he's a good enough finisher, it just means our other options are so poor. He needs to do better in front of goal, as do the other strikers. I definitely wouldn't replace him, he is our best striker at the moment. Partner him with a finisher is what I'd say.
jammie82uk Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 Fair enough he missed a couple of chances but I thought despite the couple of knocks he was carrying today he had a decent game
Nick Posted 14 December 2013 Posted 14 December 2013 I would have preferred to have seen Vardy taken off today for GTF and left Nugent on.

To criticise Vardy's finishing is akin to those who slated Heskey for his goal record. It's so clear that Vardy offers so much more to the team than just goals and his pace is such an asset. It's fine to have a 1 in 3 or 4 man up there if he's alongside someone else who's scoring the goals. As it happens, Nugent isn't (penalties aside) and if you look at what else he's bringing to the table in terms of all round contribution at the moment it isn't enough. I think that should make clear where the criticism should be targeted. Agreed. I think in January we need a real, natural finisher to partner Vardy with.
