Dan Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 I think as fans, we tend to give for the first 10 minutes of each half and if the players or the match hasn't responded by then we give up. I totally agree with that, and what do I think of that? Personally, smacks a poor set of supporters. It just amazes me when I come on here, speak to people who went etc... who'll all speak very highly of Leeds, Sheff Weds, Man City last night and others who come here with terrific support, yet appear to have no desire to make us a special one.
urban.spaceman Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 These days it tends to take a contentious decision or three by the ref to get the crowd riled up. I used to love the East Stand at Filbert Street where the roof used to keep the noise in; particularly sitting next to the away fans. Maybe we should just lower the roof?
Dan Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Union FS can save it. Do you really think so? I think they've been spot on so far but I'd like to see what the plans are in the long term. I don't see why not though.
gurn Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 As a fan who can't afford to come more than 2/3 times a season, I try to give my best at every game. I cheer, I shout. I sing, when I know the words, which isn't very often. Personally, I don't know every song that's done. And to be quite fair, you can't hear the words more than 50 yards away because of the echo. And by the time I've worked them out, the section that usually sings has stopped and moved on.

I don't think anyone in this league is special at home. Numbers wise we're great away (and at home too) but vocally inconsistent. I sing as much as I can (health permitting) but if I go to games with family members they won't sing very often then they'll complain that we weren't 'very loud' today, seemingly oblivious to the fact that they're the problem.
Guest kristianity77 Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 The thing is, the reason the atmosphere is flat at our ground, and most probably alot of grounds round the country is that people that would go to make a racket and have a genuinely fun time win lose or draw have been priced out of going. I remember when I was in my late teens and it was like £8 to go and watch City. It was pocket change in reality so you didnt care. You went, you went nuts for 90 minutes and you left, no matter what the score was. And you were surrounded by people with exactly the same idea of how football supporting should be. Now, you pay the best part of £30, and for that amount of money, you almost feel its your right to be entertained for the money your putting in. Take other hobbies for example. You wouldnt go into a video game shop and lay £30 down on a game without even checking if its supposed to be any good or not would you? But if you took a liking for something that was £8, you might buy it and think what the hell, in for a penny and all that. And the young ones that would turn up and give the place a lift dont want to part with £30 to watch football, its too big a chunk when they could spend it out and about pubbing, clubbing or whatever else. Basically, the atmosphere is crap because the ones that would normally turn up and make a ruckus, dont want to shell out the money for 90 minutes of hit or miss entertainment. And to people who think it will change if we hit the prem it wont. We will fill the stadium of that there is no doubt. But it will be bums on seats of the prawn sandwich brigade, not the teenagers or early 20 somethings who'd love to go each and every week and have a half drunken 90 minute sing song...like I used to.
Grewks Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Unless i am mistaken we support Leicester city football 'club'. So irrespective of personnel, staff and performance....we should be singing all game. I think there would have been an atmosphere, if we didn't put in our worst ball retention performance this decade. Every second pass went out of play or to a man city player. It had nothing to do with the quality of the pressure from Man City, it was just shite passing. I honestly have never been at a game where there were so many misplaced passes, even Dzeko put it our of play 3 times in the first 10 minutes. But our passing was just the worst i have ever seen.
Kinowe Soorie Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Times have changed since Filbert Street. And I don't think we will ever have that sort of atmosphere at the KP. Men would go to work on a Saturday morning, pub and then have their release at the football. When my Dad took me to my first game (in the 80's) it was the greatest feeling I had ever had! Shouting, swearing, heckling, singing, banter and the smell of beer and smoke. Just brilliant!
Kinowe Soorie Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Also, the Stewards were not such f#ckwits!

Spot on IMO. The problem comes as well when people have paid about £30 for a ticket to watch an average Championship match and it gets on their nerves. That's why you hear so many fans getting on the players backs if we're under par, they want value for money. If every game was £10 a ticket, then you'd have a full house every week, with people just going to enjoy it As well as the ticket prices, there's a big gulf with the supporters - those who have only ever known the turgid shit that has been LCFC over the past ten years, and those who remember how good we were in the past - especially during the 90's. Personally, I can see why none of them feel like they have nothing worth singing about these days.
yorkie1999 Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 It would help if the beer was a pound a pint and actually had some alcohol in it.
BrummieFOX Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 I still think people have rose (blue) tinted views on what Filbo was actually like. Yes we had some brilliant atmospheres but we still had a huge stand (Carling) that barely sang a word for the majority of games. SK1/2 etc made all the noise. On an average game vs. Burnley it would have been similar to the KP. That said, I do think we'd have put on a better show than Tuesday night which was pretty embarrassing. It would help if the beer was a pound a pint and actually had some alcohol in it. Yea this too! If beer was a good price, I'd be in the ground from 1:30pm having a good sing song in the concourse. Instead I don't get to my seat until bang on kick off (sorry to the people on my row).
MATLCFC Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Yet another atmosphere thread with lots of responses! Let’s do something about this c’mon people!! Filbo Spirit seems to have a great approach. Can something not be organised through this?
Silverdaz Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 what really annoyed me about last night was the fans, I use the term loosely, who turned up and spent 80% of their time looking at their phones. Then Sam Bailey seemed to get a better round of applause than our actual team which was embarrassing. Nothing against Sam bailey though. People didn't seem interested at all. They did seem interested in clapping David Silva off the pitch, what was that all about? It can't be ticket prices keeping fans away, which was proven by the prices of Burnley at home. I'd love to see these fans turn up more often but I know they won't. People in SK1(where I sit) ,L and N are generally the only people starting songs although it is still painful. I do like filbo spirits approach so far Its because fans respond to class players David Silva is a class player and with Milner was Man Citys best player I still think people have rose (blue) tinted views on what Filbo was actually like. Taffydag Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 It seems to me that a whole new breed of "plastic" fan is being created on here and I am one of them, not the sit at home and watch on the telly type but the sit in the stands and don't sing type. Both types, for some reason, are seen as lesser fans because they don't go to every game and sing their hearts out, I go to the game because I support LCFC and I go and sit with friends and watch and talk about the game, get pissed off when things don't go our way, happy when they do but it seems now that even that is not good enough for some of the people on here. I might as well go back to being the other type, stay at home in the warm listening to the match on the radio, saving myself £400 odd quid a year.
MooseBreath Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 We were being properly dominated technically and not even getting stuck into them. Absolutely nothing in it to drive an atmosphere. Of course fans should still show support and they did, but you can't expect a vibrant atmosphere when the on pitch action is so thoroughly depressing.

I do like filbo spirits approach so far I don't think fans fixtures will solve a non match going culture - a problem that's developed over a number of years that has been born out of poor pricing, poor atmosphere/experience (with little desire to improve it) and playing at a poor standard of football, although I think the latter is questionable as we win the vast majority of our home games.

This! Fans are priced out of the game, we're left with a few diehards and the majority are now customers who are horrified at the idea of ironically singing "always look on the bright side of life" and Poznan-ing when we score against Man City A good number of people who want atmosphere need it to be "cool" these days as well it seems which we never used to give a shit about "tinpot" and "cringe"
hackneyfox Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Is there a new ground in the country that has a good atmosphere created by the home fans at almost every game? The Kop was allocated as the singing end but isn't next to the away fans. We have music after every goal that is louder than the fans can be. The ground doesn't hold the souns in like the old Kop used to. We have a drummer. Many of the newer fans don't know the old chants and the older fans don't like the new chants. Most clubs have gone out of their way to kill atmosphere, they wanted a sterile place twhere families could come and feel unthreatened. Until clubs themselves do everything they can to help rekindle an atmosphere I'm afraid you have to accept that most new grounds are now like libraries.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 19 December 2013 Posted 19 December 2013 Great post Col and agree with a lot of subsequent posts. Directly relating to Tuesday night, I also agree, Man City totally killed our underdog threat very early in the game. Our team were not allowed to offer something to get the fans going and the fans in the "so called" singing sections were piss poor. Can't see this changing unless we get a big FA cup tie against Prem Opposition where we actually turn up or we're in the mix at the end of the season and a promotion party is ensuing!

An interesting point, I don't generally sit in the Kop or L block, I tend to get involved in chants, expecially away, but I don't start chants and don't sing on my own. To be honest if the atmosphere has gone flat I often don't notice as I'm concentrating on watching the game. I don't pay my money to make a noise, I go to watch a football match, of course it is always better with a better atmosphere, but if the atmosphere is shit it doesn't mean I can't enjoy the game. Obviously when the game is shit it is more noticeable when we are quiet, especially being outsung by a handful of away fans.

Goals don't precipitate songs any more cos we're all drowned out by Chelsea bloody Dagger or Fire. I posted http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/91474-tottenham-actively-repressing-atmosphere/?fromsearch=1 a little while back: clubs don't want singers, and it's really depressing. How can you get atmosphere when you can't stand up, can't swear, can't drink, have to listen to Hey Jude, can't get to your seat more than a few minutes before ko, get separated if you form a group, etc., etc. Nothing to do with the quality of football IMO, we've had some great results at home and no atmosphere in pretty much any of them... This isn't about having a go at non-singers, it's their prerogative to sit quiet if they like. But clubs actively sabotage atmosphere, so even if we want to sing it's almost impossible to do.
