Oxfordfox83 Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 Guardian article on how Tottenhan are deliberately disrupting the efforts of fan groups trying to get people peacefully singing. The sad thing is, it's no surprise, and I wouldn't bat an eyelid to hear of exactly the same thing here... http://bit.ly/18bmUMb
The Horse's Mouth Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 Fairplay to them, that sort of thing doesn't have place in the modern game imo
Fox92 Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 On a side note, it highlights we aren't the only club to have a rubbish atmosphere at home. People sometimes talk as if we're the only club with a poor home atmosphere. Tottenham have always been well supported, and create a lot of noise away from home.
Dan Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 Football in this country is becoming an absolute fvcking joke. To think we were the ones who pretty much invented fan culture and it's been completely sold to non-football businessmen who have no actual feel for the game, who'd bizarrely rather have a silent ground.
purpleronnie Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 Every other country encourages it...we have to be the opposite don't we.

Kitchandro Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 I keep telling people that clubs, ours included, are actively against atmosphere, but some are in such denial and seem to think I'm just a conspiracy theorist or something. I have to say, I'm really not sure why they are so desperate to oppose an atmosphere. It's really, really strange - almost as if it's just using their power for the sake of it. Almost as if they really take pleasure in ruining things for people. I can't really see what they gain from this kind of thing.
Stadt Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 Why are clubs so against atmosphere? The fans that give clubs the most money are usually the ones that want to create an atmosphere.

It's pretty obvious given their previous antics yet for some bizarre reason our own fans pretend it doesn't happen. I don't see who a poor atmosphere benefits, at all. Even the ones who'll sit there not contributing to it at all - do they really enjoy a quiet stadium?
Corky Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 Why are clubs so against atmosphere? The fans that give clubs the most money are usually the ones that want to create an atmosphere. Really? The most expensive tickets are usually in the main stands and the boxes, not often hotbeds for atmospheres.
davieG Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 It's not atmosphere per se they are against they just don't want young adults creating it probably because they're scared it will reignite the troubles of the 70s. Their idea of atmosphere is that created by 8 year olds with clackers. I've been saying for sometime there is a definite agenda to discourage young adults.
Stadt Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 Really? The most expensive tickets are usually in the main stands and the boxes, not often hotbeds for atmospheres.the 'atmospheric' fans usually go to away games, go to cup games and buy merchandise, the more expensive seats aren't usually full.

I mean, how can so many successful business people be so, well, darn right thick?

If the reason given is health and safety, that's nonsense. If anything, it makes safety sense to pile the rowdy lads in one area well away from the families/pensioners. You might be right that it's just a power thing-get the council, the lawyers, the coppers and the stewards in a room together and there's enough fear of things they can't control that they'll do anything to get the power back...
J.Lisemore Posted 5 December 2013 Posted 5 December 2013 Every other country encourages it...we have to be the opposite don't we. This is the reality I'm afraid, absolute joke our country has become over the years.
Captain... Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 Weird then that AVB was criticising the fans for not being up for it not that long ago. Hopefully our club will learn from the Belgian invasion, that working with the fans instead of against them creates a good safe atmosphere that is beneficial to everyone.
C-man Posted 6 December 2013 Posted 6 December 2013 This Bob McIver at Haringey council must be an Arsenal fan. Seriously what the fvck has he got to do with fans in the Stadium? He's in some two-bit department called 'building control' which as far as I'm aware is nothing to do with football? Could well be a smoke screen from the Club, I guess but I think this is higher than Spurs. Would not be surprised if the FA or PL instigated this.
AndWhat? Posted 7 December 2013 Posted 7 December 2013 Doesn't surprise me in the slightest, angers me to **** though. Clubs are scared of fan power because then they couldn't do what they want like they do now. Why would clubs want fans that don't buy merch, don't use official coach travel, turn up at 2:55 and only buy 1 beer at half time and upset the fans paying hundreds of pounds to SIT down and watch the football. They want families that spend the money on tops, popcorn, programmes, arrive at 2pm and sit there behaving themselves. If I owned Leicester city I would put a huge fence around SK1, call it the 'Dickhead Corner' and just let fans do what ever they want in it! Drink, sing, stand, flags, flares the lot! As long as they signed a dickhead waver stating that if they die from getting hit by a flag or some confetti they won't be able to sue the club! I guarantee it would sell out and I would be the first to get a season ticket in that section. It seems like this is the only country where football clubs find it impossible to be able to cater for all types of fans.
