Eh?!

That is such a weird comment!

Of course cinemas will have safety certificates. They will also have emergency lighting.

The club should ensure the generator can power the emergency lights as well as the flood lights. I am confident they will fix the issue immediately.

I bet the owners are very unhappy about the situation.

They do have emergency lighting as did the football club. As the guy explained in the original post. My response was to adequate lighting at all times. Do cinemas have this? Do they have safety certificates?

The light at the stairs halfway down (as you've left the actual arena to enter the concourse) L1 was on. Do people know why? Because it's an emergency light. Which says to me that every other stairwell would've had the same thing.

Regardless of whether it was bright or not it was still on, the club would not be allowed to operate without this.

Stairwell V24 in the kop wasn't lit, I know this as I had my torch on and found my way out safely.

It was half lit at half time but come full time completely off so couldn't possibly be an emergency light.

They could even loose it now until it is sorted if it really was as bad as people are making out.

Emergency lights are battery charged.

It is possible that the charge ran out, even though they should hold their charge for 3 hours. Maybe they've not had the proper maintainence carried out on them.

Could well be the batteries but surely if they're emergency stairwells they should have green signs above them.

Not to mention the fact a fire escape stairwell should be sealed off from both rooms, these are open plan stair cases.

The stairwells are not emergency exits, you should go down to pitchside and follow the exit signs.

I am stunned that such a modern ground is devoid of emergency lighting in the exit routes. Emergency lighting is nothing to do with fire alarms and should be available in the e

vent of main lighting failure. Certainly stewards should be assigned to advise of safer escape routes however that does not help someone already in the normal escape route. This is not namby pamby over reaction just plain simple common sense. Sorry but this is completely unacceptable.

How were we supposed to know this? The stewards should have been instructed to stop people going down the stairwells and diected them to the pitch side.

I think what is clear is that if something major were to happen the stewards hadn't been properly trained in the event of an emergency.

Goodness me 13 years of Labour party rule has created a pathetic bunch of good for nothing, whining, pretentious, lack of common sense, blame culture idiots educated by the labour teaching unions.

I fear for this country, when people can not use their own brains, they need someone to hold their hands or do it for them! There was more than one exit available, use your brain and make the choice suitable for your predicament. I chose the dark stairs, if I had fell I would have called myself a twat and moved on, not been on the phone to the nearest ambulance chaser ffs. This blame somebody else culture is a joke.

Wow, who rattled your cage.

Why bring your right wing political view into this argument???

So the blame someone else culture is the fault of left wing teaching unions??

Wow, amazing logic there!!!

I know that and you know that, see my post at the top of this page.

According to sylofox I was talking bollox saying this, where you quoted me I was trying to explain the concourse stairs cannot be emergency exits.

If you can't see abe are worried for your safety, don't walk down the dark stairs ask for help or follow the lights.

Really Strokes???? Really???

You really think a comment copied from the Mail might be valid???

If a comment is valid it doesn't matter where it comes from.

There was no way to tell from the top of the stairs that there was no light as the light from inside the stand roof was lighting them up. But once you got so far it then became virtually pitch black and with the swarm of people behind you there was no way you could turn back.

The club must have been aware those areas were unlit and should have prevented people exiting that way. If they didn't know then I'd suggest they would be more culpable than if they knew but through bad organisation or communication failed to prevent people going that way.

They were no more than lucky that no one got uurt as just one person falling could resulted in plenty of others folowing.

Fair enough, you are right. Emergency lights aren't there to give off lighting so you can see in the dark, it is to lead you to an emergency exit.

You could have waited on the platform before turning back down the stairs, maybe the club should do airline style announcements before the game. Forget the post horn gallop safety first.

I'm not quite sure why you're arguing the point and defending the club on this I just don't see how you can excuse them from not preventing 1000s of people entering and leaving the ground via dark unlit exit routes, routes that they've probably used 500 times.

The onus is on the club, they have a duty of care and that care should mean minimising risk to their customers. There can be no doubt, even according to you that these routes were a risk and should not have been used.

I don't doubt they were dark, a risk, no. I go up and down dark stairs on regular basis and have never felt at risk.

You'd think nobody had ever walked downstairs at night And not turned the light on... Of these people were so Clever to put lights on for banter when the floodlights went out, where did these 3,000 lights disappear when they were going down the stairs? Or were they all confiscated?

Beggars belief the things people moan about.... I know it's potentially dangerous blah blah blah... But Christ... What do you want the club to do, call it off??? If the generators had lit the whole stadium up inside and out, they would not have lasted long enough to see out the match!! So either have lights on so you can leave... Or abandon the match...

Can't believe how pathetic we are about things like this...

I've walked down my stairs in the dark many a time without falling arse over tit, and my stairs are rather steep.... If it's such a problem because there are lots of people about.. Hang back... Leave space inbetween each other.. There would never be a problem...

I understand it's not good enough lads, I really do.. But Christ.....

I wasn't there so can't comment on how dark it was, but pretty much what lee has said, everyone seemed to had a light at one point, where did all the phones go when it was pitch black?

How many people actually know someone who was injured or distrusted by this? Not could have been of might have been because their old. Actually injured?

Or is this one of those nanny state bull shit, I need light to get down a stair case I have been down a million times before.

I worry about how some will cope when there is an actual problem in their life

Yes they do muppet the minute power is cut emergency lighting will come on.

In the case we are talking about power was cut.

emergency power cut in but was not enough to support floodlights and emergency lighting.

As reported by national papers.

Having noted a lot of the comments, I feel it's time to have my say.

Firstly the stairs down from the kop into the concourse after the game were in complete darkness and as such a serious risk to people. For those of you who say people should have taken the "fire exit" down toward the pitch, how many people know that this is an exit in the event of a fire? I suspect not very many. Whilst I and a great many others coped, some people did indeed struggle to walk down in the darkness. Whilst many of you are saying "namby' pambies. It's health and safety gone mad etc." If I was the club owner I would have been seriously concerned that had anyone fallen down the stairs and injured themselves, I could then quite possibly have been sued.

I do think that the club should invest in emergency lighting above the stairs to prevent this from happening.

Go ahead and shoot me down all you wish. I don't care.

On side note is this what is meant by the owners putting the club in the black?

Happy new year all.

I came out of the kop and the staircase was not in "complete darkness". It wasn't well lit, but it wasn't a problem at all.

And I hadn't been eating carrots before you ask
