Larry_LCFC Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Without going into too much detail, as an electrician every fire exit etc should have an emergency light as well as stairs. It simply wouldn't get passed off with health and safety otherwise. The stairs going down from sk4 had limited light at half time. At the end of the match, it was in total darkness apart from the light coming in from outside and a small bit from down in the main concourse. The stairs themselves were in darkness. They need to reevaluate their emergency systems.
65RosesFox Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 We're top of the league and took 7 points from our last three games against teams in automatic or play off positions, what can I moan about? I know... the health and safety risk of walking down a flight of stairs in slight darkness! Get a grip and be thankful it didn't get called off when we were 1-0 up. I'm intrigued how you cope when you have a power cut in your home..... Sit motionless until the power comes on! Or are you just one of these when there's a blames there's a cliam...?

Yet another stupid, selfish response. What a culture of "it was fine for me, so **** the rest of you" we live in today. Yeah it's great the game was finished and we won, but that shouldn't have to compromise safety. Instesad of having the stewards desperately trying to prevent the pitch invasion that never happens, they should have been stood on and at the bottom of the stairs with torches guiding people down. Like I said earlier, it was no issue for me - I'm young, but for elderly people who maybe cant see well anymore or who aren't great on their feet I bet it was an ordeal. Try and look at it from someone else's perspective instead of just your own shallow view. We have enough ****** on this forum without another one to add to the pile!
SeattleShane Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 What a load of crap all this Health and safety has become. Boo Hoo
Bayfox Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 We win in the dark we win in the snow we leicester city our fans will still moan.
promised land Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Without going into too much detail, as an electrician every fire exit etc should have an emergency light as well as stairs. It simply wouldn't get passed off with health and safety otherwise. Our ground is fully upto the fire safety standards, I think the moaners are getting confused. The stairs from the concourse are not fire stair wells, if they were they'd have the green sign lit up and emergency lights as you say. The way out for a fire exit is straight down the stand and either onto the pitch if a fire or walk along to the tunnel exits at each corner. I truly don't see why people are complaining, the game went ahead and as far as I know nobody died or got stampled to death on the way out. Oh and to the poster who was blabbing on about old people and stewards with torches, if an elderly person couldn't see then they should've walked down to the pitch side and out by a fire exit as I said above. If they're that high up in the stand anyway then they are not fragile old dears.
Guest Foxin_mad Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Goodness me 13 years of Labour party rule has created a pathetic bunch of good for nothing, whining, pretentious, lack of common sense, blame culture idiots educated by the labour teaching unions. I fear for this country, when people can not use their own brains, they need someone to hold their hands or do it for them! There was more than one exit available, use your brain and make the choice suitable for your predicament. I chose the dark stairs, if I had fell I would have called myself a twat and moved on, not been on the phone to the nearest ambulance chaser ffs. This blame somebody else culture is a joke.

Quite obviously that wasn't an option in getting down.

I hate all this namby pamby bollocks as much as anyone but I have to agree here when thinking about our elders. i always ask myself, 'how would i feel if that were my grandparents' and i would be upset if id heard theyd struggled with getting out the ground

davieG Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 The simple fact is that the normal exits and concourses were not adequately lit for safe evacuation, certainly not for a modern football ground considering some of the previous stadium tragedies and not by today's stringent public safety standards requirements. If they were not the approved exit route for emergencies which in the circumstances the power failure was as there was not lit normal exits then people should have been advised to exit via the stadium stairs and pitch perimeter. Stewards should have been instructed to block the normal exits and tell people which way to go. I've been to nearly all the games played at home and there is no way i knew the normal exits aren't fitted with emergency lighting and once you've made the decision to go that way in the absence of any advice or instructions there is absolutely no way you could turn back against the hoards of people go their normal way out of the stadium. The club messed up in not advising or preventing people exiting via the concourses and when I think of all the away games I've been to and how I've been herded down exits and routes i didn't want to go down all in the apparent interest of safety then yes it pisses me off somewhat.
demon_dog Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Having noted a lot of the comments, I feel it's time to have my say. Firstly the stairs down from the kop into the concourse after the game were in complete darkness and as such a serious risk to people. For those of you who say people should have taken the "fire exit" down toward the pitch, how many people know that this is an exit in the event of a fire? I suspect not very many. Whilst I and a great many others coped, some people did indeed struggle to walk down in the darkness. Whilst many of you are saying "namby' pambies. It's health and safety gone mad etc." If I was the club owner I would have been seriously concerned that had anyone fallen down the stairs and injured themselves, I could then quite possibly have been sued. I do think that the club should invest in emergency lighting above the stairs to prevent this from happening. Go ahead and shoot me down all you wish. I don't care. On side note is this what is meant by the owners putting the club in the black? Happy new year all.
Strokes Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Can people not remember leaving filbert street in the dark after every floodlit match? Did anyone help these struggling elderly people or just whip out their phones and come on here?

Well I'm disabled myself and struggle to walk great distances, carry a portable oxygen cylinder with me to every game as at times I rely on it when walking as I struggle to breathe but still I had no problems. I think people are over reacting far too much. And if people did feel they would've struggled I'd hope they would use their initiative and ask a steward for help, and i'm sure they would've.
Guest MattP Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 I actually enjoyed it. Didn't cross my mind once it was unsafe in any way. A steward with a torch is probably more dangerous than the dark.

FoxesAreBlue Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 I managed to survive the deathly dark of the Killer Power Stadium but then tripped down a kerb on Raw Dykes Road. I stumbled but managed to save myself (hero again). That said, I damn near looked a right cvnt. Who could I have sued?

All area's should have adequate lighting at all times not just fire exit's. From what it says in one of the daily's today It seems the generator could not run floodlights and all other lighting. If that is the case the will have too upgrade the generator end off. They will be lucky to get a fire safety certificate for nxt season now this has come to light. They could even loose it now until it is sorted if it really was as bad as people are making out.
Bayfox Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Ffs. the club admitted they had to channel all power to the flood lights. meaning most other stuff was switched off. Not ideal. but 3 points and stairs in the dark. Or **** off 20k and send them home. Which was more likely to **** people off.

A cinema is a place of work and open to the general public, I'm pretty sure they all have fire safety certificates. If you don't know what is required by law to gain one, maybe you should be quiet.

Eh?! That is such a weird comment! Of course cinemas will have safety certificates. They will also have emergency lighting. The club should ensure the generator can power the emergency lights as well as the flood lights. I am confident they will fix the issue immediately. I bet the owners are very unhappy about the situation.
