The defence let in 3 goals today. Giving them a 6 (like i did) is generous. No one can say the defence played well today! It's just fortunate that our attacking quality shown today and the midfielders contributed with some good goals.

Daz93 Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 Kasper 6 - Cracking save in the second half, thought he could have done more for their goals, none were particularly great strikes past him. De Laet 6 - Good going forward but gave the ball away needlessly a few times. Morgan 6 - Stood off too much first half but second didn't give Beckford a sniff. Moore 7 - Absolutely outstanding second half, only let down by the first. Konchesky 6 - Average. Knockaert 7 - Sometimes overcomplicated things but showed some class today. James 8 - Just brilliantly simple again, barely put a foot wrong all day. Drinkwater 7 - Good goal, good game. Looked tired second half. Dyer 9 - Lethal today, got a goal and an assist and really troubled Baptiste. Nugent 5 - Missed a pen and didn't do much else, off form. Vardy 8 - Really looking good this season, his pace is so dangerous. GTF 7 - Showed real class, if he was fit and had any sort of pace he'd be starting every game. King 6 - Put himself about when he came on and looked to make an impression, good headed assist for GTF. Hammond 5 - Simple stuff.

Soar Fox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 I never feel that confident when Nugent steps up to take a penalty. It's his slow run up that I don't like. Fair play he's scored 8 out of 10?? My preferred choice would be Konchesky. Cool, calm and experienced.

Weak link in our side by a stretch. Has no sense of positioning and his pass completion rate must average about 35%. Makes me nervous.

Makes me nervous. I thought he played really well and that we're a better team with him in it. Don't remember any misplaced passes in particular. Weird how opinions can be so different.

Could he be a decent right mid? Morgan 6- Hard to judge because 1st half we were a shambles at the back but looked solid 2nd half. Moore 6- Won a lot of headers. Closing down could've been a bit better Konchesky 6- His job has become passing to Dyer and he did it well Knockaert 7- Always a threat and works hard. That free kick would've been a beauty Drinkwater 8- Great goal and bossed the midfield for the majority of the game. He's becoming our most important player imo James 7.5- He's such a tidy player and is realky comfortable on the ball. Not afraid to do the ugly things either Dyer 9- Scored one, set up one and generally caused havoc for Bolton all game. Top performance Lloyd Vardy 7.5- Was an absolute menace all game and brings othrr people into the game really well. Nice flicked header for GTF's goal Nuge 7- linked up well with Vardy and he olayed good balls out to Dyer GTF 6.5 King 6 Hammond 6
Alf Bentley Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 A few people are being unduly harsh on Nugent and on our defence, I think... - It was a poor penalty, but Nugent contributed a lot to our creative play, running deep, playing clever passes, going by defenders - Our defence could have been tighter, but sometimes you have to credit the opposition - their forwards/midfielders made good runs into space and put their few chances away brilliantly; would people be slating the defence so much if Moritz & Beckford had put those chances wide? - Also, I don't want to turn into Col City Fan, but one of the downsides of playing 4-4-2 with 2 wide/roaming players (Dyer/Knockaert) is that the 2 central midfielders may struggle to cover forward runs into space by opponents, particularly if they're clever runs or several players make forward runs...which was the case. I was calling for King to be brought on at half-time to make a midfield 3, but fortunately we were good enough as a passing, creative force to dominate possession in the 2nd half. Schmeichel 7 A couple of key saves; could he have reached their 3rd, if he'd tried? De Laet 6 Very hard to mark - brilliant overlapping, but lost possession dangerously several times in 1st half Morgan 6 Stood off a bit Moore 7 Stood off a bit, but made some great tackles, interventions and headers Konch 6.5 Beaten once or twice, but OK Knocky 8 Clever passing/possession & a sublime reverse through ball for Dyer's goal - why didn't TV show that?! Drinky 8 Fast, accurate distribution & strong tackling, even if he gave it away a few times James 9 MoM The dominant presence on the pitch - passing, tackling, dribbling; back to his best Dyer 9 What a season he's having - repeatedly beat their defenders, often to creative effect, plus a brilliant goal Nugent 7 Clever creative contribution, despite poor penalty & lack of goalscoring opportunities Vardy 7 Slightly tentative 1st half, I thought; much more threatening 2nd half GTF 7 Another excellent cameo crowned with a well-taken goal from a nice run; a calm, clever player King 7 Important cameo, too; excellent movement & passing, plus a good assist Hammond 6 Didn't notice him much
oxtonfox Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 I very much agree with Alf's view here and with the support of Nugent. Although he didn't do a huge amount in the game he was key to the link up play and his first touch is excellent with some good lay offs to the likes of Knocky, Konch and especially lloyd Dyer. Nuge is an intelligent player and I think we need him to start. Dropping him now given his age and his overall contribution would be wrong as we may lose him in the xfer window with his contract up for grabs. 12 goals so far is not bad either and e is pur main penalty taker and scorer! - In the first half the whole team especially the centre midfield stood off them far too much. Bolton's centre mid (a good player if he can keep Mark Davies out) had time to look up and split our defence hence the three goals which I think were all poor from us. The only defender who challenged well in the first half was Liam Moore; he made a couple of crunching tackles that set the standard and I think shaded the minds of both Beckford and to a lesser extent Moritz not to mix it. - - I also wanted a midfield 3 on but I couln't think who would be best to drop so once again Pearson got that call right, Here;s my player ratings. Schmeichel 7 Not overly busy (bar being beat 3 times in first 30 min!) but pulled off a world class save to keep us level in 2nd half De Laet 7 I felt he got forward very well and second half he tightened up better - did lose possession twice carelessly in 1st half Morgan 7. Should have done better early on in 1st half gradually but got on top and really dominated well in 2nd Moore 7 Same criticism as rest re:1st 30 mins but really got stuck in too and some great clear outs. Missed great chance in 2nd, Konch 7 Felt he offered Lloyd and midfielders a constant attacking option. Terrible shot but got lucky deflection for 3rd goal. Knocky 8 At times he is brilliant; clever distribution and much better now in possession. Great free kick that hit bar and goal! Drinky 8 Overall excellent with goal and got to grips with midfield in 2nd half that we won clearly. Kept us moving forward/ James 8 Does the hard work really well and has a touch of skill. Could have taken a shot a couple of times instead of passing Dyer 9 Have to say he was their constant threat and delivered decent crosses for 1st and 2nd goals. Great run for 4th goal. Nugent 7 Link up play was excellent; I thought a solid cog in team performance. I wasn't and he Didn't seem confident with pen Vardy 7 1st half nothing much came off but came into it more in 2nd. Won penalty occupied their defence and tireless.Only concern is finishing ability. GTF 7 Looks a decent player and good finish for goal King & Hammond - did nothing wrong and helped us stay solid and kept ball well.
