The realIty is, I said it before, we have built a good platform to build from. There is little to no reason based on this seasons performances to believe that we can not achieve auto or even the title. Since the SW defeat the team has shown it can turn things around, wants to win and is capable of doing this. Yes it can go badly wrong but even after conceding to Derby look at the response. There is a good mixture of games coming up, no cup matches, double figures in points between now and the end of fe band what is there to stop us. Who will want to play us ATM

If that is correct, then Burnley only need to win 11 out of their last 21 games to overtake us, and QPR only need to win 12 and draw one of their games to overtake us too.  This will be a season where high totals are required to get promoted or finish in the playoffs, and low totals will keep teams up.  

 

We NEED to keep pushing and winning because if we did end up in the playoffs from this position, then psychology would not be on our side.

We don't need realism and pessimistic views. 7 points clear and top of the league speaks volumes. Confidence breeds confidence and optimism breeds optimism.

Confidence also breeds arrogance - one thing that we as a team cannot afford to be is arrogant. This is when you start taking things for granted and don't work as hard with the assumption you will succeed anyway. While I'm buzzing, I agree with the OP, the players and the fans need to keep our feet on the ground and keep working hard because there is still a long way to go.

We're top for a reason after all, and I see us staying there. This IS the year for us, at least, it is ours to throw a way.

 

That said, there's 66 points to play for and they'll all need to be earned with hard work. So I'll try to stay grounded.

I was thinking optimistically yesterday prematch that we might knick a win. To batter a good Derby side so convincingly shows how great the mentality of this team is. Obviously a fair way to go yet but we are looking superb, long may it continue!

I think what happened last season was the best thing that could happen for the players because now they all seem mentally tough and much more resillient, the mini-blip that we had in early December could have been much worse but we managed to stop the rot early enough and I think this is why we're going up - the mentality and morale is superb .

It's still far too early to be thinking about how many more points or points per game we will need. There are as many as 21 games left, 63 points to play for. I'd rather we aim for a total of 117 points than worry about how many may or may not be enough.

 

As someone's pointed out here, and I've said more than once this season, totals will be high at the top and low at the bottom this season. There's a lot more work to be done.

 

That said, we were fooking brilliant last night!

It's worth bearing in mind that it wasn't until match day 33 of last season where we got to work destroying our 14 point lead over 7th and our squad is essentially the same one as we had then - none of our accepted strongest 11 are new signings...

 

That's where the similarities end though: These players are not the same men they were last year:  Every time we've lost this season, we bounced back immediately to win the next game with the one exception of the Wednesday and Brighton back-to-back defeats which preceded this current run of brilliant results. There is now a level of fight and belief to our play which, although we had some memorable results, we only ever saw vague flashes of last season.  

 

I've been biting my tongue and refusing to get too excited this year.  Throughout this run I've been greeting each new victory saying something along the lines of "yes that's good, but I'll only truly start to believe if avoid showing weakness in the next match to undo today's progress".  It's about time I kept my word.  There will be defeats ahead, maybe even in the next match (we thrashed Derby, Leeds got thrashed by Wednesday - last year that would have guaranteed a complacent defeat) but, after the way we've gained these recent results and more importantly who we gained them against and with such consistency, my pessimistic shell has finally been broken.

Well you've done it now...I hope you're happy !!  

 

The truth is, I think your thoughts mirrored mine when I made this thread.  I was buzzing with a great display and thinking about games in the Premier League when the old defense mechanism kicks in which says, "you know what happens next when you start to think like this don't you?"  

 

So I immediately start to moderate my high and have a stiff word with myself about complacency, because, obviously, if I don't do this, then it will all fall apart because the success or otherwise of Leicester City totally depends on my mental state.

 

Then, I notice other people recklessly being positive and I have to warn them because they know not what they do.  This is of course irrational, and usually I am a pretty rational person.  But...the clinging belief in the above persists because it seems to have been proved right so often.

 

I might just go and live in a cave until May, so if it does go wrong, at least I will know for sure it wasn't me who jinxed it !!

For those that keep saying it's to early, really surely we can see the light at the end the tunnel. Yes it's a fair way off but it's there in the distance.

Also I am pretty sure that the team management have a set of bench marks that they are looking to achieve as the season progresses.

The Championship is a marathon, not a sprint and while we are playing the best football Ive seen us play in years, we aint won nowt yet.

Next week, away at Leeds will be a tough game and we would do well to come away from there with anything.

Im sure Nige will be grinning inside, but telling his players to keep their feet on the ground and to take it one game at a time.

Our fans might be prudent to do the same. A repeat of last season, though improbable, is still possible and there are gonna be some people with egg on their faces should that occur.

Enjoy the moment but keep grounded is probably sensible for the moment.
