Can't get in on merit when he's barely played a game for six month because he's being kept out by a second rate right back.

He can't get in on merit because he has no form to prove he's currently better than Baines, and for me, sends out totally the wrong message that some players will start regardless of form. We're not exactly struggling at left back and right now it's Baines' position. But you're right Cole is the one of the "Golden Generation" who can genuinely be called world class.

deanolegend1989 Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Cole should be playing for Chelsea I think but maybe Mourinho has seen hes just gone that little bit too far over the hill and he probably knows better than us. I agree though our CB's Cahill & Jagileka are just decent and were lacking a world class centre half. JT and Rio were quality and in all those poor showings at world cups, it wasnt our defence that was the problem, we didnt have the creativity of international standard.
FoxDownSouth Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Centre mid looks weak for England so probably Drinkwater It's probably our strongest area. Gerrard, Wilshere, Lallana, Barkley. The defence is much weaker. Glen Johnson is awful, Walker is overrated. We haven't got a world class centre back in the entire country. Baines at LB is the only saving grace. Ashley cole? Dan Posted 24 January 2014 Posted 24 January 2014 They play that Alderweild or whatever his name is. Formerly of Ajax, now plays in Spain. Aye he's now at Atletico. It's a shame for De Laet's World Cup prospects that we didn't go up last season because if he was performing in the Premier League he'd be in with a genuine shout in my opinion, seeing as he's naturally a right back and Alderweireld isn't.
