Plays too defensively, Pisses me off to see the best players in our country, on paper one of the top teams in the world, Playing defensive football, It's a crime to play that way on the international stage IMO. I would be thoroughly surprised if we got anywhere near the quarter finals of the WC, I'll support us through and through, but if RH does not get us to the quarters, He'll be gone.. It's pretty obvious we don't have a chance of silverware this year, and I think 80% will agree completely... Discussion - Do you like RH? Will we have any chance of Silverware this season? Hope if any FT members are taking the trip out to Brazil that they have a brilliant time and safe journey! once you've finished watching that circus you can come back and see some real football down at the KP!

Germany are also looking unreal, even Belgium are looking like they could have a go this summer. I think we'll still top our group, and i still think we'll beat Uruguay and Costa Rica and draw to Italy. This will be the first world cup in my lifetime where the expectation for us to have a major impact is relatively low. I think this is a transition world cup anyway, got players like Butland, Ward-Prowse, Barkley, Berahino etc which could do a job in the future.

We have a fairly tough group and wouldn't be surprised if we were to go out at group stage. But it wouldn't surprise me if we were to struggle through to the quarters either. The resurgence of so many other nations whilst we have seemingly stopped producing great players and not really progressed very far compared to others is the biggest issue. You look at the lesson we were taught by Chile who many people would think it would have been an easy game when that certainly wasn't and wouldn't be the case were we to meet again. I like Roy, he's passionate, English, has a decent record for us in competitive fixtures and doing his best with an average pool of players. He's got the players singing the national anthem as well (something I like to see). If some of the players can take their club form to the World Cup it would be great. I'm just waiting for the media to bring out some sort of player scandal in the run-up to the World Cup as they always seem to do at big tournaments. Still, it's a months worth of football to look forward to in the boring off season.

I thought that but bottled saying it! they have a quality squad, I think our youngsters a few years ago looked top notch, but tbh with the exception of barkley and maybe Oxlaide, I think our crop are average.. I think Jones could be a future captain, The likes of welbeck, smalling and other players who are relatively "Young" but get into the first 11 just are not good enough, We do have some young players under 21 who look a cut above the average though, you mentioned a few.. Problem is they need to learn quick! The lampards and gerrards are long gone now in terms of real impact I feel, And if these Hendersons etc do not start to make a real impact I feel there will be nobody to bring these players that are under 21 up, then they get to the first team and are told to sit back and hold on for a draw by RH! sort of like leicester on the internation stage (Until recent seasons) Where we have driven any ambition and quality out of our crops!

Very well put mate, And agree our young players do look good but not world beating "At the moment" I'm proud that roy is an english manager and he is proud to be so, and yes its great to see the players singing the anthem and seemingly wanting to put the shirt on! Let's hope players Like Rooney can really bring their ability to the plate!

Anyone who puts us in the same league as Brazil, Spain, Germany etc. Needs their head looking at. The only way we'd have had a chance of winning in 2012 was by playing this defensive brand of football, we had Scott fvcking Parker ffs. There's no way we'd have been able to compete with the better sides at playing football so hodgson tried to emulate Greece 2004 and defend our way to the final. I do think we have a better squad this time around but it's still not a patch on the 'bigger' countries. We aren't as big or as good as people think we are and at least hodgson has some tactical nous to get something out of them.

With the exception of Lamps, Gerrard etc, who are naturally attacking but forced to sit back due to not being as mobile as previous, Look at our current squad Attacking Defenders: Baines Cole - Gets forward less now though Johnson Walker Gibbs Jones - Not so much attacking but loves driving into midfield to push the team up Midfield: Gerrard - Attacking, Yet has to play more defensive Lampard - Attacking, Yet has to play more defensive Milner - Attacking Wilshire - Attacking Cleverly - Att and Defensive (More attacking though) Townsend - Attacking Walcott - Attacking Oxlaide-chamberlain - Attacking Henderson - Att and defensive Barkley - Attacking Lallana - Attacking The forwards speak for themselves On paper and for their clubs, We have a VERY attacking squad, With the exception of some older players who have spent their whole careers attacking, but are starting to drop back due to fitness and mobility... Yet hodgson is one of the most defensive managers around? IMO PLAY TO FIT THE SQUAD... Can you imagine the pearson of old going to someone like Man city? (Now he plays more free flowing attacking football) In the first round of the pearson era, playing attacking football was quite an issue, we didnt really do it! My only issue personally is the way we play with the players available... As I said IMO it should be a crime to play defensively with an international team, Especially with the quality we have available!

Maybe it's just one of those mornings I am not feeling it, Reason I posted is I overheard 2 blokes talking about how they think under hodgson we could genuinly win it! :scarf:

I think this could help rooney massively as he has never performed at the big tournaments due to massive pressure from media and expectancy being to much for him. Im hoping he scores in the 1st game and he goes on to shine at the tournament. I think the heat and humidity will have a massive effect on the tournament as a whole and alot of teams will really struggle. It wouldnt surprise me if alot of the 'favourite' teams have a shocking tournament based on the heat alone. what im looking forward to most is the fact of having non stop football for a month inbetween seasons to bridge the gap. Dont know if anyone agrees with me but i hope im proved wrong and we have a really good tournament.

I hope he brings it, he's one of the only "truly world class" players we have... Always rated rooney

You mean "Even if we are watching different nations after we get knocked out" who could handle suarez right now?

Suarez is the 2nd best player in the world currently I think. We'll struggle to handle him and Cavani. I actually think Italy will be the team to knock out to get through!

I think with uraguay Rooney is important, Because defence is definitely their weak link! Could say they same about us though

Certainly a different type of game to Italy. That will be cagey and tight and we will struggle to break them down. It is Rooneys time this world cup..hes 27/28? next world cup he'll be past it so he should want to go all out for it. Stevie G is also at the end of his England career so he will want a last hooray..as well as all the young legs, who knows whats possible? We arnt the most talented squad by a long way but nor were Chelsea in 2011, Liverpool in 2005, Porto in 2004, Greece in 2004 etc. We have to believe we can or we wont..simple as that!
