Last Season VS This Season

Things are going well.

As it stands we're favourites to be promoted as Champions to the Premier League. amassing an impressive points tally after 26 games.

In hindsight, for me, I am pleased we didn't go up last season. A certain amount of satisfaction comes from making a mockery of this competitive division and easing to a prospective title (should we do it).

Are you, in hindsight pleased we didn't score that penalty and compete in the playoff final?

Did Troy Deeney do us a favour?

No. I would have loved is to have got to wembley last season as I genuinely believe we would have beat Crystal Palace.

As for promotion this season as much as I would love us to win the league I'd happily take 2nd place. Just as long as we don't have to compete in the playoffs again, I don't think I could take another heartbreak for the 3rd time in 4 years.

I'm not glad we missed that pen, but I think it was a blessing in disguise. We're in a much better position to establish ourselves in the prem if we do go up compared to last season.

It's mad to look at the table and see 7th have 39 points whilst we're already on 60!

We didn't deserve promotion last season.

Neither did Palace, Watford, Brighton, Forest or Bolton. In my opinion, Cardiff and arguably Hull were the only ones who were genuinely good enough last year and Palace were the third best of a very bad bunch. The mentality of the top sides was laughable and it was so evident on the last day of the season when Hull & Watford who both needed a win to go up - both failed to collect three points at home to sides with nothing to play for.

So ultimately yes, and I felt that at the time. We didn't deserve it one bit last season and as cruel as it was (just had to be didn't it?), we weren't ready for the top flight and we didn't deserve it either.

Every single thing about this season has been better than last.

I would rather win the division than go up through the playoffs, even if it means waiting a year longer.

Like has already been said, I think dominating a division is a better preparation for the PL than scraping into the playoffs.

So patience has rewarded us.

However...I do think not going up this season might be more damaging than the last two seasons.  Many players are out of contract and will soon be wanting to test themselves at a higher level.  I believe we have a squad which can compete in the PL already, with a few quality additions in July.

If we don't go up this year, I think we may be starting building again from scratch.

I'll answer that in May because, at the minute, things are going well but the season is far from over. But hindsight is a wonderful thing, of course.

this time last season we have 4 points more than Cardiff did and guess who was 2nd? scary thing is we ended last season with only around 8 points more than we already have this year

Having another season with Nigel at the helm, building a squad, is the best thing to happen to this football club since 2001. In fact i made a thread when Nigel arrived saying he'd need 3 years to sort out the bunch he had inherited.

Having said that, i wish Watford had just thumped us 3 or 4-1 in that game. Or just beat us in very ordinary fashion. Having THAT goal shown in every Skysports Football League titles for the next 20 years is gut wrenching.

Definitely a blessing, albeit well disguised at the time. This squad is really impressive, and has been forged both on horrible heartbreaking defeat last year and on relentless winning performances this year. Without those two binding factors, I'm not sure we'd be seeing this kind of team solidarity, and I think we'd have really struggled in the Prem. IF we go up, as is far from guaranteed, then I think we'd give a very good account of ourselves whoever we were playing.

This side has so much fight and will to win, it's fantastic to behold. Long may they keep this spirit going...

I genuinely think the fact I'd convinced myself we were completely undeserving of it softened the blow. I maintain Cardiff hit me twice as hard as Watford did. We were utterly robbed that night by a team of absolute ***** (and Mark Kennedy).

I'm sorry but I think that's utter rubbish.

We could have easily gone up last season if we hadn't fooked it up and, if we had done, who knows who we might have signed, sold etc to try to make a fist of staying up. The club would have had a season's more Premiership money and we would have been 'where we wanted to be' at the end of last season, rather than (hopefully) at the end of this one.

If the aim is promotion then why is it better for it to be a year later than it could have been? The answer, of course, is that it isn't.

And dont give me all this 'the players are all a year older' stuff. None of us truly know whether they will make that step up anyway, which of them will shine, whom will be replaced etc.

If people are breathing some metaphorical sigh of relief at us not getting promoted last season, Im afraid thats laughable.

If we do achieve our aim this season I will look back on last season as being 'what watching Leicester City is all about', encapsulated in 20 mad seconds, rather than thinking 'if only' but that is purely based on us going up this season.

Don't think anything would best the depression after the Swindon final but 12 months later we beat Derby!!

If we had gone up last season I'm sure a few players would have been bought in on premiership wages, and with the £60-£100 mil (whoever you believe) received for being in the prem, I'm not sure the owners would have cleared the debt.

If we do go up this time, not sure we will need as many new faces, and also we are now in a much healthier financial position, so definitely some positives for me from this point of view.

Indeed, last season we wasn't ready to go up really, we would have really struggled in the PL, this season so far we look like we can go up and play well in the PL. We look ready
