MGLCFC Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Grewks - the guy contributes to the team, 16 goals, yes penalties do count as goals, loads of assists. His unselfish running - he's part of Leicester City - the TEAM at the top of the league so why don't you crawl into a hole.
Grewks Posted 8 February 2014 Author Posted 8 February 2014 I wouldn't swap him for any other striker in the Championship, even with McCormack, Rhodes, Ings or Austin. Nugent on his day is just as good as those players. Now that is just stupid.
StanSP Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Considering the fact he hasn't won any of them..... it isn't easy to score penalties, but it is far easier than scoring them in open play. So take them out of the equation...are you happy with his return? I am not. Why does it matter who wins them? If he scores them, they're his goals. How the penalties were gained does not determine his technical ability (or lack of in your opinion).
ousefox Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 I wouldn't swap him for any other striker in the Championship, even with McCormack, Rhodes, Ings or Austin. Nugent on his day is just as good as those players. Wouldn't go that far.
MGLCFC Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Grewks if he's so sh*t why does Pearson pick him every week? Perhaps he rates him as a team player.
Grewks Posted 8 February 2014 Author Posted 8 February 2014 8 goals in open play is not a good enough return from a sides 'main striker'. Would man city be happy if aguero made that return? Or Real madrid with Ronaldo?? etc etc. As our main and best paid striker he has to deliver more. Considering the fact that Vardy has won the majority of penalties, scored more goals in open play, quicker and is a better player with the ball at his feet, for me he should be our first choice striker.

Erm, he is? He's started nearly all games where possible this season?
iamafox Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Now that is just stupid. If you had the choice to sell one of our strikers, what would your first one be?
Danizen Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Watch the goal vs Boro last season then come back to this topic. Maybe not in stunning form but still a more than capable player.This.Also, the one against Forest.
ARTY_FOX Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 If you pay attention nugent often sits deeper than vardy and nods it on to him or put his through.
StanSP Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 This. Also, the one against Forest. They don't count cos they were inside the area.
Grewks Posted 8 February 2014 Author Posted 8 February 2014 Grewks if he's so sh*t why does Pearson pick him every week? Perhaps he rates him as a team player. A manager cannot make a wrong decision? Not that it is a wrong decision at the moment, given the fact that wood has not long returned from injury and kp is on his deathbed. This is not a 'slagging nuge' or 'scapegoat nuge' thread at all, it is just an observation. I could quite easily make a 'dyer is inconsistent thread' 'wasilewski is too slow thread' 'de laet sometimes looks unfit thread' 'konchesky gives the ball away too much thread' 'wood is too injury prone thread' 'king is the invisible man thread'. I was merely noting an observation i have made from watching him during matches. For me, his technique just seems very very average at times.
Grewks Posted 8 February 2014 Author Posted 8 February 2014 If you had the choice to sell one of our strikers, what would your first one be? GTF - because i fail to see the point of him now Schlupp - young....but does he have the potential to become what we need? No in my opinion. Nuge - cash in whilst we can, there is a reason average clubs got rid as they also believed he was average. Nugent has more technical ability than Vardy. disagree. Nugent's cannot be a man with the ball at his feet.

The amount of times this season he has struck a ball which has gone out of play for a throw is incredible, and today he missed a glorious chance which knocky was in a better position to take. Not that the penalties don't count, but if you take them away, what has he done? a lucky deflection against derby, poor defending against leeds etc etc. He would only be on about 3 for the season. For me he wasted far too many chances. I could show you a goal from mark de vries which is 'world class'....but does that mean he is a world class player? No. Time and time again during a match he will give the ball away cheaply, run straight into an opponent, smash the ball harmlessly wide (at least 5-6 times a match). Yes he works fairly hard, but i just feel that we need more from him. For example, after watching watford today, Deeney despite not having his best game won a lot of second balls and recognised he was out of form and decided to just play second fiddle to forrestieri. I personally would much rather have a physical player up top instead of nuge. Doesn't matter if you have all the 'predatory instinct' in the world if it is defended properly now does it? Why don't you defend his goal against derby.....you know the one where he was about 8 yards out on his strong foot and was going embarrassingly wide until he got a lucky deflection. I've said it since we signed him last year. Never seen him have a 'great game'. In fact, i have never seen nuge put in a complete performance like wood did against fulham, or vardy against derby. He just seems a bang average player to me. The same lineker which 'never left the 6 yard box'??
Guest Col city fan Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 So we've had one draw and now people are again questioning Nugent again. I don't deny he misses some. If he took every chance he'd be playing for a good Prem club. What Nugent gives you is team-work. He's a great chaser down and links play well with the other striker. Im happy to have him here and to be honest always have been. Whats the phrase? You have to be be there to miss em? Nugent is a very intelligent player imo.
Munshi Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 He was crap today, but he's been much better and his link up play with Vardy is Vital.
Bayfox Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 Leicester city player in ssscapegoating shocker. Ffs
Stadt Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 I prefer Vardy but Nuge has more technical ability and beating a man with the ball doesn't constituent technical ability.
Grewks Posted 8 February 2014 Author Posted 8 February 2014 He was crap today, but he's been much better and his link up play with Vardy is Vital. Fair enough. but apart from derby where he was an improvement, his performance today was no different to any other home game i have been to this season.
Father Ted Posted 8 February 2014 Posted 8 February 2014 I wouldn't swap him for any other striker in the Championship, even with McCormack, Rhodes, Ings or Austin. Nugent on his day is just as good as those players. Anybody who wouldn't take Ings over Nugent has lost it!
Grewks Posted 8 February 2014 Author Posted 8 February 2014 I prefer Vardy but Nuge has more technical ability and beating a man with the ball doesn't constituent technical ability. The ability to dribble with the ball is a technical skill is it not?
