brisfox Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Over th, the last 10 years, the least number of points needed for promotion has been 78 (Hull last year) The most required was 87 in 2012 We are currently on 67 with 16 games to go The average number needed is 82, ie we would need another 15 points Thoughts?

After 30 games, they sat in 2nd with 61 points. 2011-12 West Ham finished 3rd with 86 points. After 30 games, they sat in 2nd with 57 points. Both were also promoted via the Play-Offs.

The positions column may be slightly inaccurate, as I was looking at the dates of the fixtures, rather than a table which shows teams after x amounts of games. So obviously games in hand affected that column. Interestingly, (or perhaps not, you decide), when Reading got their record points total, they were on 73pts after 30 games. (Edit, 'Year' is the starting year of that season (i.e. 12 = 12-13), in case that wasn't clear)

Assuming that Bolton's record will not be broken, we need a maximum of 88 points to secure promotion. 21 more points to take us there is 7 wins out 16 games- 1.31ppg 7 wins will do
norfolkfox222 Posted 14 February 2014 Posted 14 February 2014 Another way to look at it / how im looking at it, 70 points by end feb (2 games to get 3 points) 80 points by end of march (7 games to get 10 points) 90 points by end of April (6 games to get 10 points) 93 points end of season (1 home game to get 3 points) easy? far from it haha but i believe its a great guide to go by, March is the easier month on paper so id rather get it done than have to rely on getting points in april as theres some very tough games in there. but if we have 80 points going into April i really think we would have enough to get the job done!!

Come on citeh Me too, just signifys how achievable this is. The key is not to panic if/when the gap closes, which is almost definitely will at some stage, though I have no doubt NP has installed this calmness in the players.
