Matt Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 Would be useful if maybe somebody could put together all the different Bookie offers for each race closer to the time. i.e Paddy Power money back 2nd, 3rd & 4th in Supreme Novice, Ladbrokes money back if Hurricane Fly comes 1st or 2nd etc. Had an email from SkyBet today saying if you bet £60 on horse racing during Cheltenham they'll give you a free £10 bet, think that outrageous tbh, that could get alot of people in alot of shit imo, bit bad, obviously people have choice and people don't have to do it but I feel people could be easily led by that and sucked into it. I won't be taking 'advantage' of the offer, it's not even a very good offer imo, I think Coral did a one last year that if you bet £10 every day they'd give you a £10 bet - That's fair enough (And a very good offer), but not £60 - Having said that Coral were 'giving' money away last year, think it ****ed them really. Also SkyBet are offering Money Back Every Day if the favourite win ths first race. SkyBet are usually pretty good with their offers, price boost, extra places, e.t.c during Cheltenham.
ScouseFox Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 Bet a tenner on PP on the Imperial Cup on Saturday and if you lose get a tenner for Cheltenham. Bet up to a tenner on a double on Tuesday at Cheltenham on Betfair and get it refunded for the next day if you lose. Ts and Cs that I haven't read but both seem half decent.

Think i'm gonna have to sign up with Paddy Power some of their offers look great, plus bet £10 get £20 free bet (Anyone know of any catch?) for new customers. I've got a betfair account so may take advantage of that double because I will do a double anyway so may aswell do it on there. I slagged bookies off for not offering as much value as they used to, I still stick by that statement, however what I will praise the bookies on is they seem to give better offers nowadays, before they only gave new customers the offers but they are giving existing customers alot better offer nowadays.
ScouseFox Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 Yeah both them two look like I might get involved. Got a bit in my Betfair account so will deffo be on that, e/w doubles count too (although only the win part gets refunded if it loses). Would probably have thrown a fiver on at the weekend so may as well boost it to a tenner on PP and if it loses as usual get it back as a free bet to start Cheltenham. Just gotta choose a winning () double for Tuesday now
Matt Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 Coral offering a massive 4/1 on Quevega, should be around 8/11. Unfortunately (For me) its for new customers only, maximum of £10.

You can lay it at 10/11 on betfair as well. Got the missus to open an account. It's only a tenner but for 3 minutes to open an account, £30 if she wins, and I don't lose if she doesn't.

Don't think there's a catch. Also download their pp messenger. Place another £10 bet and you get £20 free bet for doing that too. No catch.
separator Posted 6 March 2014 Posted 6 March 2014 Coral offering a massive 4/1 on Quevega, should be around 8/11. Unfortunately (For me) its for new customers only, maximum of £10. Maybe their trying to beat last years offer of evens on Sprinter Sacre. Think that offer cost them big time. When it comes to tips I get a few good ones from the gg.com forums. There's a few informed punters on there, although as others here have said, do your own research and trust any gut instinct you have as well.

Surely buying money that? Similar offer to the Sprinter deal that cost them over 2 mil allegedly. Just open in a friends/girlfriends/ parents name.
Bert Posted 7 March 2014 Author Posted 7 March 2014 What website do people use for data on form etc?Timeform is decent
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Ladbrokes 3/1 on Annie Power and Big Bucks, tenner on each and surely you've got guaranteed profit!!

Yeah 3/1 on PP too, seen it 5/2 and even 9/4 elsewhere. Interesting move on Gassin' Golf, was 20/1 or bigger on Monday, into 8s now. Probably go off even shorter come post time. And if I pick a loser which probably will happen I'll focus on trying not to lose the "free" money next week
adam1 Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 Someone mentioned what sites to use. Timform is a good guide (download the pdf via the betfair site). Sportinglife is a good site for quick form access which allows you to watch previous races for form (you need a skybet account though to view the races). I always have a look at the speed ratings on speedfigs.com for flat races or the speed ratings on attheraces. If you like a statisitical approach to betting, malcolm boyles placepot guide on the sporting life site is quite interesting read each day. He sets out stats such as how many faves won x race over the last ten years etc.
Maybes Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I've so far been reading the racingpost preview and used 'at the races' which is pretty good.
adam1 Posted 7 March 2014 Posted 7 March 2014 I've so far been reading the racingpost preview and used 'at the races' which is pretty good. The problem is you are often relying on someones opinion. When reading the spotlight etc glean it for factual information and make your own opinion.
GingerrrFox Posted 8 March 2014 Posted 8 March 2014 A few helpful hints from me. 1) When looking at Handicaps look to see what weight the horse has previously been successful at. Has the horse been progressive as it's been moved up in weight? Horses on a lower mark than they've previously won at suggests they've been ear marked for a particular race at Cheltenham and have been campaigned with that in mind. The reason people say Handicaps are so hard to get at Cheltenham is because a horse who has run poorly all year comes out of nowhere on a low weight and wins at +20/1 when that has been the trainers plan all along. Progressive horses are key as well, novice horses in handicaps have much more scope to improve and can often shit up because of their low mark 2) Also I'm always wary of horses that both beat each other and the form is tangled unless one was giving the other a clear advantage in weight it's too hard to judge which is the classier horse. Perfect example this season is Wonderful Charm and Oscar Whisky in the JLT. Oscar Whisky beat Wonderful Charm by 1/2 length at Newbury but Wonderful Charm was 8lbs higher on the day. They go off level weights in the JLT, looking at straight form you can be misguided without looking at weight. 3) Ground is key. It really does make a huge difference at Cheltenham. Also make sure you take note of the tracks the horse has been successful at previously, left handed/right handed? Flat track/undulations? A horse who excels at Haydock for example may not replicate the form at Cheltenham. 4) Look for value if something is odds on or very short in the market. Say the favourite is 4/6 on the flip side you could be going 6/4 the field and unless it's a very special horse it's often wiser going E/W on a horse who you think has a chance of placing despite not thinking it has enough to win. Perfect example is last year Countrywide Flame was a huge profit for me because he ran to a place in the Champion at 22/1 and it was a significantly lower stake than if I had lumped on the Fly at odds on.
adam1 Posted 8 March 2014 Posted 8 March 2014 A lot of people do not take into account the third point ginger made. Some do take into account lh rh but not many actually look at the type of track, whether it is sharp, galloping, undulating etc etc. Also for example 3m at one track is shorter than 3m at another track. You may think 3m is 3m but if some of it is uphill it's a 'long' 3m. And take into account that at Cheltenham that they do tend to go off at a very quick pace. Anyway horse example. Sire De Grugy. Does this horse run to its best at Cheltenham? You can argue against him.
ScouseFox Posted 10 March 2014 Posted 10 March 2014 Ok, first proper bet for the fest yesterday. PP gave me my tenner back from the Imperial at the weekend, bloody second place! Gone on a double for two of my best (admittedly somewhat obvious) shouts of the week, Quevega & Briar Hill to win the Mares and Albert Bartlett respectively. Pays about 9/2 at the time of placing it I think, shorter now I'd imagine because they are all coming in for Briar Hill, 9/2 about 10 days ago, hit 7/4 in places. That's my "banker" double. Tomorrow looks a tough day bar Quevega who will hopefully romp home. Will have to back the Fly because he's the Champ and I bloody love him. Supreme looks like something where e/w value is the best shout, Arkle is going to be tight as anything judging by the betting and the form. The handicaps are, well, the handicaps. They'll be good fun. Just want to fast forward 24 hours really.
