Bert Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Well it's only two weeks away now until the greatest festival on earth gets underway. Absolutely buzzing for this. I'm literally counting down the days until it starts. I will also be doing the fantasy league again for anyone that's interested - just waiting for the telegraph site to be ready! I will create a similar thread for that, though. You don't even need to know about racing either at the end of the day it's all for fun and to add that extra little but of interest! Please post all chat, tips/fancies, free bet offers etc in this thread. Also, is anyone going? If so what days? Thursday in club, and Friday in the best mate for me. Sprinter Sacre & Cue Card now ruled out of the festival! Two pretty big horses there one almost certain to have won and the other with a big chance of doing so in each of their respective races. Leaves the champion chase wide open for me with SS missing out.
foxer Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Can't wait for this. Not going to be able to go unfortunately but will certainly be wasting money betting on it!
BrummieFOX Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Gutted about Sprinter Sacre being out - always good to see him race. Should be wide open now though as you say. Really looking forward to it too - think my money is going on At Fishers Cross and Quevega. Very open to any tips though.
Ric Flair Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 It'll be weird for me as it's not only the first year I won't have gone for many years and also I shan't be betting as i've quit. I shall still be watching it when I can though as I count horse racing as a sport I enjoy watching as well as the obvious gambling buzz. I am gutted Cue Card has been ruled out as it's been sensational in the last year or so. Sprinter Sacre has had some really bad issues this year and I hope it's not finished, it was destined to be one of the greateset sprinters of all time and I hope it gets back to full fitness next season.

Kitchandro Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Decided to book half the Tuesday off for Barnsley away and then thought I'd get the Wednesday and Friday off as well, so for once I can watch most of it live. Looking forward to it as always, even more so now the Grand National has become a bit of a joke.
Maybes Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 In the Tatterstalls on Gold Cup day. Never been to Cheltenham racecourse before so I'm really looking forward to this. I better get my head in the horse racing papers for some tips beforehand!
Bert Posted 25 February 2014 Author Posted 25 February 2014 I'm going Thursday in The Long Run boxes, club on friday, where are you stopping? we are in the Mercure Queens.Coming home because my pool team would be short otherwise!
goose2010 Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Do love the festival - potentially there every day this year as my mum is working for Kingsclare (Andrew Baldwin's Stable) at the minute they haven't got any running but there is potential the horse my mum has a share in will run depending on the weather. It wont have much chance of winning but might be a decent each way shout I will let you know closer to the day if it does. Only bet I am sure of at the minute is 'Irving' in the Supreme Novices it is favourite but there is a reason for that! The Gold Cup could be a cracking race think an outsider might do it this year think a small bet on Harry Topper

Guest MattP Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 First time since I was 18 I probably won't be able to make it this year die to various things (and that will hurt big if Big Bucks wins) Best of shine taken off by the absense of Sprinter Sacre and Cue Card but you just know the week is going to be as awesome again. Quevega surely has the chance to go down as the undisputed greatest mare of all time as well.
separator Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 I placed a small patent bet a few weeks ago, only 50p ew, to get me in the mood for Cheltenham. Annie Power, Champion Hurdle 8/1 Rock On Ruby, Arkle Trophy 9/1 Faugheen, Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle, 7/1
ScouseFox Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 So excited I'm on Sire de Grugy in what I reckon will now be the most interesting race of the week now Sprinter is gone. I got 3/1 a few weeks back which looks good now, but I wouldn't be backing at 6/4 or whatever we're talking now. Massively want the Fly to win again too.
ScouseFox Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Also took however many posts to mention the lack of everyone's hero Albertas run this year. FT needs a new horse.
ealingfox Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 It'll be weird for me as it's not only the first year I won't have gone for many years and also I shan't be betting as i've quit. Is that because you bet everything you owned on us not finishing in the top 6 this season?
Matt Posted 25 February 2014 Posted 25 February 2014 Can't wait, one of the best weeks of the year. Not really got too involved yet or even looked into anything yet but think I may start this weekend. Gutted to see Sprinter Sacre isn't going to be making an appearance also I read today Cue Card won't be there either.
chrishlcfc Posted 26 February 2014 Posted 26 February 2014 Got a few early bets riding, some of my main bets are Irving, Red Sherlock, Hurricane Fly and Silviniaco Conti. The champion hurdle promises to be one of the best races ever with so many good exciting young pretenders but the Fly is such a good horse and I still think it will take all the beating. Think Silviniaco has got a great chance in the gold cup, truthfully I still think it would have won it last year had it not fell when still travelling really well but we will never know and I think it will be a cracking re-match with bobs worth.

If it pisses it down and is a mudbath then got a huge chance, if not there are better quality of horses. Quite fancy Our Conor to turn over the Fly in the Champion Hurdle. Will also be interesting to see what Annie Power runs in.
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 28 February 2014 Posted 28 February 2014 Ladbrokes are refunding losing bets on the champion hurdle if the fly finishes in the top 2.
separator Posted 28 February 2014 Posted 28 February 2014 Paddy are doing a money back offer if your horse comes 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the Supreme Novices Hurdle. http://www.paddypower.com/racing/future-racing/supreme-novices-hurdle-betting#area=sb
GingerrrFox Posted 28 February 2014 Posted 28 February 2014 Our Conor for the Champion, Wonderful Charm for the JLT, Irving for the Supreme, Al Ferof for the Ryanair and Briar Hill for the Albert Bartlett in an EW accumulator.
ScouseFox Posted 28 February 2014 Posted 28 February 2014 Ladbrokes are refunding losing bets on the champion hurdle if the fly finishes in the top 2. So if I lashed something on the Fly and it came second I'd get money back? And if it won I'd be laughing? Tempting.
Bert Posted 28 February 2014 Author Posted 28 February 2014 I've got a funny feeling the big name horses and gonna get beat this year! Biggest one is that I don't think Big bucks will win.
